About that unknown force/spike... (Minor Emperor Soul Spoilers)
Landis963 replied to What's a Seawolf?'s topic in Mistborn
However, the alterations themselves are encoded into symbols that are based on MaiPonese geography. Case in point: We didn't see any in Elantris, despite their obvious utility. -
Remember how The Lord Ruler could store his youth in atiumminds, then burn the filled atiumminds to get exponentially more youth out than he put in? Miles is doing that with gold (the health-storage metalminds). Then, he could put the excessive amounts of magic healing into another goldmind, and then burn that for another increase on top of the original, and so on until the exponential amounts of stored health gave him the healing factor you see in Alloy of Law. The "floor" on how much you can store into a metalmind at a time is a safety feature so that the process of storing won't kill you, so it wouldn't apply in Miles' case.

Selish. And Elantris is the first in the timeline. Emperor's Soul is within the same technological era as Elantris (by WoB) so by definition it would be second. Regardless, unless there are time skip shenanigans between Elantris and its sequels, those would be next.

reading 10th anniversary vs the normal?
Landis963 replied to eszroth's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
That's right. In addition, Elantris has been re-oriented so that the curved walls face east and west, rather than north and south like in the original. (If I recall the original correctly) That way Raoden's new trajectory makes sense. -
Because Odium's in charge, and why the heck not? Besides, the Oathpact is set up so that it is in Odium's interests to make the Heralds break under torture as quickly as possibly, so that his army can get back to murderizing the Rosharan populace.

Allow me:

Spren are creatures of the Cognitive Realm, and they appear to have as equal a claim to Roshar's magic focus as the gemstones do (possibly a greater claim, given how Voidbinding appears to work). EDIT: @Stormgate: blood doesn't quite work, as it is the spiritual connections to Selish nations that inform who can cast what and where. I'd amend that to ask if the blood focus was the case before D&D were splintered, as any non-RAFO answer would be most informative.

I thought that Sel's Investitures were primarily form-based, much like the Metallic Arts were metal-based.
-
I just assumed that, being a Shardvessel, Preservation's knife was part of his image, much like Harmony's impressive take on traditional Terris garb in Era 2. The shimmering would therefore be the image shifting from "knife in holster" to "knife in hand," much like a computer game player character pulling a sword out of nowhere.

[Secret History spoilers] Necromancy in the cosmere?
Landis963 replied to hoidhunter's topic in Mistborn
That's the rip in the map. It's being held between Nazh and Nikki, Nikki's weight on it begins to tear it apart, making her half bend such that the rip makes the V she describes, then it tears apart and Nikki falls to the ground, whereupon she's greeted by a suspiciously-familiar beggar with white hair who offers to tell her a story.- 24 replies

And a typo: "Remind me Remind me again why I thought this was a good idea?"
-
Godmetals are invested. It's how atium differs from, say, lead. Soulcasting can't produce them (Via WoB).
-
I thought all the methods of accessing the Dor have some similarity to programming, was the WoB.
-
No odd bracers or bits of jewelry to act as metalminds, though. Kelsier would have noticed if he did, by burning steel. (Either during the appointment with him in TFE or when Kelsier was in Fadrex' Cognitive Realm in SH) EDIT: And if he didn't, then Wax definitely would have during the coin incident.
-
Given that we haven't seen Hoid do anything similar to the normal uses of Feruchemy (storing strength/weight/memories/etc), I'd be willing to bet that his version either only has the bottom half or only the Aluminum/chromium quadrant of the Feruchemy table.
-
Well, so is Kelsier. The difference being that Lessie is both dead and gone.
-
The effects of good health already present would continue happening, and any change would be negligible. Unless of course you got shot or something mid-tap, in which case you'd use up the excess health to heal.
-
Technically speaking, Kelsier's actions are perfectly in line with Survivorist doctrine. The problem is that Survivorist doctrine assumes that their savior would return to save them, and not to save anyone else. Which of course makes the subversion all too obvious in retrospect.

One of the broadsheet stories in SoS was about someone stumbling upon something that looked suspiciously similar to a Shardpool - at the same point a red and black faced "monster" emerged from it.
-
Actually, you can see the coastline that will eventually host Elendel on the map of the Final Empire in TFE.
-
The damage was still there, though. The spike just gave Ruin an in that he wouldn't have without it. (Even Kelsier, as connected to Ruin as he was, as broken as his experiences made him, did not hear Ruin's voice) Of course, it quickly became a moot point because Vin Ascended not 2 minutes later.
-
I don't espouse that theory, if only because Shardpools are usually no bigger than your average hot tub. Also there's a volatility that the Purelake lacks.
-
As far as we know, the closest they've gotten are the ettmetal bombs, which aren't even close to city-busters in strength.
-
I definitely got a sense of foreboding when I realized what Kelsier had been up to. Literally the first thing I posted to the BoM reaction thread was "What are you doing, Kelsier?"

How large is the Cherulean "Sea?" Because Shardpools are usually much smaller. Also, what details about the magic system look like the Cosmere to you?
