Brandon's cryptic statements to that effect were assuming that each Surge was a different magic system, purely for the sake of obfuscation.

The Splintercast Reads Mistborn: Secret History, Episode 1
Landis963 commented on FeatherWriter's article in Shardcast
RE: the metal and souls correlation: On the Expanse of Vapours, Preservation's close proximity The shape of Scadrial's soul (Thanks for the correction, Weiry!) makes metal glow with Investiture. In the Cognitive Realm at large, the Investiture that comprises a soul also shines. It's Investiture glowing both times, so the connection is natural. RE: Preservation: Also of note (and I didn't notice this in the first chapter my first few times through), Preservation is literally coming apart at the seams. Oh, Kelsier. First to punch a god, then to recruit a god into a thieving crew, then to try and con a god. At least in Preservation's experience. RE: Hoid's ride. Of note: the corpse is wearing a white robe. An ex-Sand Master, perhaps? (Note that the other candidate outfit, Szeth's assassin garb, was a special case) RE: Shadesmar: That is Rosharan for "Cognitive Realm" and thus applies simultaneously to the entire Realm and just Roshar's corner of it. I prefer to use it to refer solely to the ball pit that Roshar calls a subastral, but technically it applies to both.- 5 comments

I always assumed (given how the dark-skinned Galladon looked like "burnished iron" afterward) that the Dor-light was constantly shining from every cell, washing out whatever their original skin tone was until it was reduced to "silver."

Epigraph on Radiant special effect
Landis963 replied to thegatorgirl00's topic in Stormlight Archive
The WoB I'm thinking of says that Aon Kii causes the guilty to feel pain. Skybreakers probably don't have the effect, but probably do leverage the same Connections that Aon Kii does. -
It's funny, when you look at it like this Shardplate becomes the fantasy equivalent of power armor. Strength booster, Reflex booster, Speed booster, inexplicable ability to avoid G-force related injury, complete immunity to any other type of injury.

Epigraph on Radiant special effect
Landis963 replied to thegatorgirl00's topic in Stormlight Archive
We know that Aon Kii has a visible effect on the guilty (by WoB), so the obvious assumption to make is that the same mechanic is in play here. -
Storing mental speed (at least at normal rates) makes your thoughts sluggish. Tapping mental speed allows you to think through actions at speeds that rival the sherlock scan. We got a doozy of an example of that during BoM.

The Realms are far larger than any one Splinter could ever be, especially a Splinter of a Shard.

Whatever the Scadrian FDA ends up being would have a conniption. Poisonous to non-Pewterarms, if the alloy is affected by the dissolution that means its poisonous to Pewterarms as well. That's all Mistings and non-Metalborn. As for Mistborn, they wouldn't have that problem, if only because they could burn the faulty pewter alloy - but that means there is a probability of the refreshing, sugary power boost not killing them when they attempt to use it to get out of a scrape. The base metals wouldn't have that problem, but a lot of them probably wouldn't dissolve in carbonated sugar water - cadmium, for instance, probably wouldn't. That's that product torn to shreds. Feel free to do the same to my product: Steelpush or Ironpull-powered door locks that change lock shape or key code depending on whether some lever was pulled by Allomancy, and in what direction.
-
Round 1? No. As a Round 2 or 3 hail-mary ploy? Perhaps. Note that a lot of the armors die immediately to a simultaneous Duralumin Steelpush and Ironpull, so they'd be good for (at best) distracting a Mistborn and depleting their reserves until Tony can get his ducks in a row.

So How Much More Cosmere-Aware will We Become?
Landis963 replied to VirtuousTraveller's topic in White Sand
True. Of course, that applies more for some Shardworlds than others (note that his version of speaking tongues does not involve funny accents, like the SoScads' medallions do). W/r/t the aluminum hat idea, he's only described as wearing headgear once, in a deleted scene for TES, which was part of his fool's motley. He doesn't even wear a hat on Roshar, in the very heart of his greatest enemy's territory, sticking solely with black hair dye and perhaps some Lightweaving or similar magic to prevent aging. -

More probable that he stores Connection whenever he can, so that he becomes unremarkable to any Shards that might be looking. -
The Splintercast Reads Bands of Mourning, Episode 11: Chapters 28-End
Landis963 commented on FeatherWriter's article in Shardcast
You can always tell when the avalanche has started by the fact that the POV switches happen fast and furious. Re: the Set's plans: I always assumed they were attempted to pull a Deus Ex and bring the world's powers under their control, but Wax 1) finding the Bands, 2) giving them to the kandra, and 3) forging a tentative alliance with the SoScads shot those plans right to hell, which is where they were during the epilogue. (EDIT: Notice that the last two blows to their plans were Steris' ideas) Re: the Set's training grounds: They gave fricking Bilg a city. (Remember him? Idiot in the resistance who later joined Elend's army, where he was executed for "gross insubordination" to the tune of punching his commanding officer) The fact that they gave Rashek a city pales in comparison.- 5 comments

Sanderson "Would you Rather"
Landis963 replied to KnightRadiant's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Third Heightening is perfect pitch and perfect color sight, correct? I might prefer that over Tineye powers. Don't need to drink tin-spiked oil or alcohol constantly, and I can make one ragdoll at a time do my bidding. EDIT: Agh, forgot my question. Would you rather: be spiked into an Inquisitor, or be possessed by a Voidspren?- 954 replies

All that's required for a suit of armor to counter hemalurgy is to have it be bulletproof - and thankfully, the standard titanium-gold alloy appears to do that pretty well. The problem comes in when it comes to countering allomancy, which requires aluminum. 100% aluminum, which would fulfill the letter of the requirement, would not stand up to the heat and force given off by Tony's own weapons - which means alloys. Copper, which would put the suit into duralumin territory and would thus invalidate the hazekilling usage, happens to be one of the best for aviation purposes. (There is a process by which an aluminum surface layer could be applied to any aluminum alloy, but I suspect the massive amount of articulation necessary for the suit to work as shown in the movies would make it too expensive or impractical - although Stark does have the budget for it) Other candidates include "Birmabright", an aluminum-magnesium alloy used in the Land Rover chassis (99.4% to 93% aluminum, depending on formula) and Silumin (3-50% silicon to a remainder of aluminum, used in 3 phase motors and camera mounts). The main problem, however, is how this interacts with Stark's tendency to go high.

This is why I've been referring to Tony's opponent as "a Mistborn" as opposed to simply "Vin," and why I've restricted my discussion of Tony's abilities to the MCU.
-
The movie-version laser cartridge things have not been dodged to date, I believe (Don't recall whether or not he pulled them out during Cap: Civil War). However, they are massively lethal (slice clean through solid metal drones, for instance), so Tony would be loath to use them outside of round 3, and tied to Tony's arm, so maybe if Vin was using atium she could Matrix-dodge her way around them.

The Splintercast Reads Bands of Mourning, Episode 10: Chapters 25-27
Landis963 commented on FeatherWriter's article in Shardcast
I know, but it's not any script that Wax, Marasi, or Allik are familiar with, which rules out Malwish, Terris, and the Steel alphabet. Besides, it fits the rest of the evidence, and we don't know what else it could be.- 10 comments

Mistborn can also pull, which means if one gets close enough, they can latch onto Tony and start wreaking havoc. Also, metal bullets would veer away by dint of Pushes. This does not apply to the repulsor beams, but IIRC those are mostly short- to mid-range, to augment a cqc engagement. Those laser cartridge things seem to have a long enough range, though - one wonders how precise they are, but still.
-
Unless Iron Man begins round 2 in an aluminum suit, Any Mistborn would be able to manipulate any of his suits as they see fit. Admittedly, they wouldn't be able to tear apart the nano suit, not without killing Tony. I was assuming the suit Tony uses in the MCU would be a good guideline.
-
Assuming the Mistborn doesn't tear bits of Tony off during such a dismantling, Tony's got two outs in such a situation. 1) the modular armor he was working on during Iron Man 3, which could replenish bits as they were torn off (and are also subject to Allomantic abuse) and 2) the icing problem. I don't care how good you are at burning pewter, frostbite'll get you as badly as anyone else wearing a tattered cloak and ninja gear.
-
Depends on where and how the Mistborn would be able to engage Iron Man. Iron Man does have the distinct advantage (IIRC) that none of his projectiles (save his missiles and that one dart salvo from Iron Man 1) are metal, meaning that an Allomancer can't just set up a steel bubble like Wax's and call it a day.
