The Bridgeman you're thinking of is Drehy. He's a cameo of one of Brandon's friends, who's gay IRL. Apparently we'll be meeting his husband in Stormlight 3? Or at least a future Stormlight. (Maybe in that novella set to be included with Arcanum Unbound)

That depends. Are time bubbles involved?

I have the sinking suspicion that the people writing them have never heard of atium. Nor have they heard of the fact that they can exploit any bit of metal currently on their opponents.

D&D alignments as best typified by cosmere characters
Landis963 replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Cosmere Discussion
In addition, Kaladin is oathbound not to punish the guilty. Trying to strike back at those who harm him or his only damages his bond with Syl, causing mental regression and loss of Surgebinding. He could have really used a Skybreaker when dealing with, say, Amaram. -
I've seen at least one fic on Ao3 where Leras stuck around in the Cognitive Realm just so he and Ati could... reconcile.

Agreed, although I still believe that the Fakeless' words and actions at the end of BoM would be out-of-character for skaze. They didn't flip out when Hoid failed to become an Elantrian, even though that would have been a major boon. I realize that they were probably aware that Hoid's experiment would fail, but still.

It just seems wasteful to write off an entire planet as "uncontrollable" with a single unplanned technological advance.

I will concede the point of the rest of your post, but the difference is this: Wyrn (and/or the skaze) wants people to rule over, and to force into the roles of the hierarchy. The Set does not. I would be shocked if Wyrn's (or the skaze's, for that matter) contingency plans had ever included the phrase "wipe Sel clean of all life" anywhere.

Other Possible uses for Soulstamps?
Landis963 replied to Atkion's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Assuming that there was no sudden change of foundry, the origins of the sword should be fine. Now I think of it, however, there's no real evidence of using stamps to alter the age of something. It's all been cosmetic - a desk is refurbished, a wall is given a mural, a damprot outbreak is transferred from the ceiling to the floor. Something for the question file?- 37 replies

Other Possible uses for Soulstamps?
Landis963 replied to Atkion's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
That's for a person, which are much more complex, Spiritually speaking. We're talking about stamping objects, whose minds (I use the term loosely) are the phrase "I am an 'insert object here'" over and over and over, such as with the infamous stick. Not necessarily. "The first sword broke last battle, which was x time ago." Altering the time since the last battle, and making the sword think it's new again rather than old and beat-up. A whole lot of detail might make the stamp last longer, but it would be harder to renew the stamp when those details change. Also note that a sword can't ask follow-up questions.- 37 replies

Other Possible uses for Soulstamps?
Landis963 replied to Atkion's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
The stamp would probably need to tell the sword that it's the replacement for the first sword, which broke irreparably x time units ago. That seems plausible enough to me. I think that's only a danger if the stamp is just tenuous enough to take for a bit, and then fail. Shai worried about that when she first stamped her desk, remember. If the stamp is stable enough to last for an hour on an object, it's stable enough to last a lifetime.- 37 replies

Ooh, tricky tricky. Iron: Feruchemic, because Wax shows us what an amazing power it is. Steel: Feruchemical steel. Because Steelrunning is OP. Tin: Allomancy. Pewter: Ooh, tossup between Allomancy and Feruchemy. Possibly Feruchemy, if only because of the monetary cost. Zinc: Allomantic Zinc, because Rioting could be useful. Brass: Hemalurgic spike, charged with F. Zinc. Because Zinc compounding is pretty broken. Copper: Feruchemy, because the hemalurgic power is a pale imitation of what the Feruchemic power can achieve, and 'clouding is useless unless there are other Allomancers around. Bronze: Feruchemy, because I can never get to sleep on time. Cadmium: Feruchemy. Because it'll be useful whenever I go on hikes. Bendalloy: Allomancy. Because Wayne showcased it so well. Gold: Feruchemical Gold. No contest. Electrum: Feruchemical Electrum would be most useful, I think. Unless it does something cool Hemalurgically. Chromium: Feruchemy, because Luck is always a good thing to have on your side. Nicrosil: Allomancy. Without Feruchemic Aluminum, one can't jailbreak your powers. Aluminum: Hemalurgy, charged with A. Chromium. Because Luck is always a good thing to have on your side. Duralumin: Allomancy. Because I'd love to supercharge my super speed, among other powers. Atium: Hemalurgy, charged with Allomantic Steel. Because Steel compounding is OPOP, plus Coinshot powers are easily the most dynamic of the bunch.

First, this is Dilaf talking, who is, again, a psychopath who is more of Odium than Dominion. The fact that Wyrn put him in charge of the Arelish/Teoish invasions does speak to the brutal nature of the campaign, but you don't rise to become the leader of a continent-spanning empire by allowing your aggression to run unchecked. Besides, if everyone in Teo is killed, that would also include the Derethi converts already present, for example Fjon. There needs to be some mitigating factors involved, despite what Dilaf says. Jumping back to Scadrial, the scales between the two plans are too different. Two countries are easily wiped off the map, compared with an entire planet. The advancement of allofabrials, while daunting at first blush, can be used to the Set's advantage, especially if they somehow get to be in charge of distribution. Immediately jumping from "medallions will soon be a thing" to "Destroy them all." is suspect, to my mind.

Other Possible uses for Soulstamps?
Landis963 replied to Atkion's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
It's a matter of lump sum vs. long series of smaller payments. Essence Marks cost both arms and legs, but they'll last essentially forever, especially masterwork ones like Emperor Ashravan's Mark. Meanwhile, drugs cost much less, in exchange for a lack of flexibility and a general crudity of method imposed by dosage. Not really, the stamp could read "This sword has not been damaged since I got it from the quartermaster such-and-such units of time ago." It might even be plausible enough to not alter the stamp.- 37 replies

Other Possible uses for Soulstamps?
Landis963 replied to Atkion's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
The first one you can definitely do with a bit of research, as it's essentially what Shai does with her desk while staying at the palace (in this case, you'd start with who the previous owner was and work from there). The second runs up against plausibility problems depending on what exactly you're Forging - the piece of roof that fell in won't magically disappear, while the gap in the roof might repair itself depending on the exact parameters of the stamp. The third is probably just fine as long as it's plausible that the manuscript could have escaped whatever conflagration that burned it in the first place. (And/or is familiar with the manuscript in question - since the manuscript was burned "irreparably" there's no telling that the manuscript is in fact the thing you're trying to reconstruct) Essence Marks instead of psychiatric drugs?- 37 replies

That plan did not get "accelerated" - the army appeared in Kae right on schedule (the fact that Hrathen was misled as to when exactly that schedule was is irrelevant). Dilaf was a psychopath who is more of Odium than of Dominion. There were always meant to be survivors in the invasion of Teod - you cannot convert the dead, after all - but if they were a vast minority compared to the original population, then so be it. (Otherwise, why bother converting the king of Teod?) Also, this is an entire planet the Fakeless was talking about eradicating - I refuse to believe that the advance of the medallions constituted such a setback as to scupper the plans entirely. And unless it was always the plan to wipe out Scadrial (regardless of what Suit, or even Sequence, were told in advance), this is in fact a scuppering of the plans to control it.
-
Of course. A strict hierarchy is also easy to anticipate and control, especially for the person or faction on top, and that I believe is the greatest appeal of such to the skaze. I am also of the opinion that " to remove life on this sphere", as the Fakeless Immortal stated, is out-of-character for the skaze. Especially since said removal constitutes an "acceleration" of their plans, implying that it was always the plan to kill off everyone on Scadrial, regardless of whatever they told Suit and the rest of the Set. Seems to me like a skaze would simply adapt the plan to seize control despite (or even because of) the new advances, rather than doing the table flip thing.

On Dalinar: Hoid. Renarin. Arguably Shallan and Kaladin. Everyone else is iffy. On Gavilar: That depends upon the nature of the Investiture. He got the visions from Honor, but that might not count. As far as we know, he had no Surgebinding ability, from spren or Honorblade, or even something else entirely.

Khriss danced with Wax in BoM, not Wayne. Wayne was off grave-robbing at the time (That was probably during the shootout at the graveyard, come to think of it).
-
Adolin. Navani. Hoid. Arguably Shallan and Jasnah. Everyone else is iffy.

Secret History, p. 88, Kindle Version. Bands of Mourning, p. 154, Kindle Version. And I get the feeling that she's searching out Wax to help her choose between two equally viable hypotheses - much like we do to Sanderson whenever a signing comes up.
