  1. On the topic of the listeners' orange blood Tor.com did an article about it a while back that posited the use of orange hemolymph as the culprit. It isn't the most scientifically rigorous piece of writing but it is an interesting read.
  2. It is definitely nice to get a tentative release date for this. I've been meaning to do a complete series reread now that all the books are out so I might hold off until closer to the release. (Of course I did recently pick up New Spring, which I haven't read yet and if I start that I'll want to do the entire series, and then there's River of Souls... Wow there's a lot of WoT stuff I haven't read...) I am somewhat excited that Red Eagle sold the movie rights, gets us that much closer to a visual adaptation since they never really did anything.
  3. They are explicitly stated in the HoA epigraphs for chapters 32-24:
  4. Yes it is an alternate universe and that has affected things. However I stand by my comparison. The book comes and calls the Church of the Monarch a Christian sect (it also references Buddhism existing). It emerged in Britannia (i.e. England) and is headed by the Monarch of that nation, just like how the Anglican Church is headed by the Queen of England. Yes the Monarchical Church incorporates clockwork and other mathematical things, which is explained by the integration of Rithmatics into its teachings. Rithmatics does change things but I don't think that makes the comparison invalid.
  5. Sorry but Allomancy being of Preservation, Hemalurgy of Ruin, and Feruchemy being the balance of the two is direct WoB. (source) (source) Allomancy actually did exist pre-Ascension of the Lord Ruler, it was just incredibly rare and weak. Alendi (the guy Rashek killed) was a Seeker. (source) Congrats on your first theory.
  6. First off I would recommend looking at the Coppermind wiki, it has answers to some, but not all, of these questions. Orthodoxy: Basically runs the Steel Ministry, the bureaucratic branch that keeps everything running. Also in charge of the more "religious" aspects of the Ministry Finance: The Final Empire's Banking institution Resource: Oversees trade, transportation, and taxation Inquisition: Organizes Steel Inquisitors, polices the magic-users in the Final Empire No, Obligators, and Steel Inquistors can be female. There are few female inquistors that Vin fights in the climax of HoA, they just aren't remarked upon. Obligators are allowed to marry I believe it goes Acolyte -> Obligator -> Prelan (Regional Head of a Canton) -> High Prelan (National Head of a Canton) -> Lord Prelan (Head of the Steel Ministry) but I could be wrong, we don't know very much about the Steel Ministry (a supplement centered around them would be really cool though).
  7. locking this And as people point we generally have it cleaned up reasonably quickly, They just tend to pop up when we are all asleep.
  8. There are only 6 examples given because we only know the names of six of the stances. Since each stance is named for an Essence, and each Essence is philosophically connected to an order it could be argued the relations are thus: Windrunners windstance Zephyr (translucent gas, air) Skybreakers smokestance Vapor (opaque gas, smoke, fog) Dustbringers flamestance Spark (fire) Edgedancers unknown Lucentia (quartz, glass, crystal) Truthwatchers vinestance Pulp (wood, plants, moss) Lightweavers unknown Blood (blood, all non-oil liquid) Elsecallers unknown Tallow (all oils) Willshapers ironstance Foil (metal) Stonewards stonestance Talus (rock and stone) Bondsmiths unknown Sinew (meat, flesh) HOWEVER, it is important to remember the stances are a modern thing. We do not know if they were used by the Knights Radiant, in fact given the Starfalls vision, it is unlikely they did. Dalinar uses smokestance, and neither Radiant recognizes it as "Oh you fight like a Skybreaker" if I remember correctly the Windrunner remarks that he has never seen someone fight like Dalinar did. So it is most likely the formal stances were not in practice back then. Therefore any associations are probably mostly philosophical. Edit: as for the names of the missing stances, there are a lot of possibilities. Each will likely be related to the Essence/soulcasting attribute. Edgedancers/Lucentia: crystalstance, glassstance, lightstance Lightweavers/Blood: bloodstance Elsecallers/Tallow: oilstance Bondsmiths/Sinew: meatstance, fleshstance (both kind of gross/disturbing)
  9. We do have this WoB: (source)
  10. It was. Most of the wikis the creator was using to create the Fictionaries are released under licenses where that is okay. The Coppermind is not.
  11. Yeah, it is just a forum thing. It used to be lamespren, before it got changed to negaspren. It is not a canon sub-type of spren.
  12. Actually what is going on is that there are spren of Honor, spren of Cultivation, spren that are a combination of the two, and then there are spren of Odium. Odium is not part of the "mixed investiture spren". (And there are also spren of Adonalsium but that's beside the point). The quote you mention says there are "spren of all three Shards" meaning each Shard has spren produced from its Investiture, not that there are spren with Investiture from all three Shards. (At least that is how it reads to me, and it is what fits from the spren knowledge I have.)
  13. Depends on what you mean by "safe"
  14. added to the database The question about the Mistborn film is interesting, he hasn't posted about Little Orbit buying the film rights and he said there wasn't any major news on the film front during the Goodreads q&a.
  15. This will be remembered Observer...
  16. So Brandon did the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge (or at least one of the Bots did...) Have to give him props for not reacting...
  17. Ati, like all the original Shardholders, is from Yolen.
  18. Alloy of Law started as a short story that accidentally grew into a novel. By the time he finished he knew it would be the first in a series though (currently planned to be a trilogy) it's not meant to be a standalone. It is *not* the first in the "modern" Mistborn trilogy. Alloy is set around 1900-1910 level tech whereas the modern trilogy is going to be set in 1980's level tech.
  19. Yeah, we totally knew this. I guess no one ever got around to putting it on the wiki though.
  20. That was a tumblr person.
  21. We already knew this, (someone asked if Nightblood was like a Shardblade and Brandon said it was a Shardblade) Actually I think it was someone on Tumblr. I don't think there is anything hidden here, the question doesn't mention "end neutral" systems.
  22. I also put in three, I figured I would give him a selection to choose from I asked about Aon Ien being used for healing but meaning Wisdom The bloodsealer who helps imprison Shai in The Emperor's Soul is never given a name in-text. Would you mind sharing what it is, if you have a name for him in your secret wiki of awesomeness. When King Raoshem settled in Elantris and made it his capital, did the Seons already exist?
  23. Just a heads up Brandon will be answering questions on Goodreads from 5-6pm GMT today (that's 1-2pm Eastern).
  24. To my knowledge they have not been posted online anywhere, it was a comic-con exclusive thing. If they do get posted, I'm betting it will be closer to the actual release.
  25. Oooh, okay. Does he dye/trim his eyebrows then? I don't recall Shallan mentioning him having the distinctive long/white eyebrows of the Thaylens. (Though she doesn't describe Taravangian having them either, which I *think* he would since Kharbranth is located in what was once Thalath, so he'd probably be ethnically Thaylen? Though that is probably rampant speculation)
