  1. Gold Compounders would only be able to create multiple gold Allomancy spikes. Their Feruchemy is healing the part of the soul that is removed. If you spike out their Feruchemy they can't heal it back.
  2. Because the original publisher wasn't giving the books the treatment they deserve so Brandon bought back the rights. Tor is re-releasing them with new covers/internal art starting the beginning of next year.
  3. Brandon has said that he has thought about not including the Altar seen at all but that he decided against it. The Altar seen /is/ in Book 5 (and that's Brandon saying it not Alcatraz, so we can trust it).
  4. It's theoretically possible.
  5. This thread reminds me of this comic from tatter-demallion on tumblr
  6. For this one it is important to remember that that chart is not technically depicting the Orders though we generally use it that way, it's a philosophical representation of the Essences and Surges (i.e. the elements and fundamental forces) known as the "Double-eye of the Almighty". So it's less "There's a connection between the Windrunners and the Lightweavers" and more "There's a connection between Zephyr and Blood".
  7. The original quote did not specify but this more recent one does: (source)
  8. We don't actually know that though. All Brandon has said is that they were not /traditionally/ made Knights Radiant.
  9. The original idea behind the interludes was to give Brandon a way to explore the world of Roshar without having to dedicate time to developing new characters. Basically they serve to counteract the problem of "epic sprawl" that a lot of epic fantasies like The Wheel of Time and A Song of Ice and Fire run into in later books. The point of that interlude is to visit the Reshi Isles, 'cause the main characters aren't going there anytime soon. Also keep in mind that the interludes of WoK were largely divorced from the main plot line, that should be treated as the standard.
  10. We kind of already knew that the new editions would be illustrated? But it's nice to find out who will be doing the illustrating, and doubly-nice to find out she's a fan-artist. Also is there a reason this wasn't posted in the Alcatraz forum?
  11. Alcatraz 5 is already written (it was written back in early/mid-2014) and is due out next May/June, so yes it will be coming out before Stormlight 3. The Aztlanian (Rithmatist 2) is currently planned to be his next project after Stormlight 3, so it shouldn't affect this.
  12. Eh, I'd say that Isaac is better suited for that role, being the inspiration for it and all...
  13. To save you trouble, all editions of the paperback should have the newest version. The release of the paperback edition was one of the reasons Brandon went through with the changes. It was meant to be the release of the newest version. As for the audiobook version, if it happens it will be when Kramer/Redding come in to read Stormlight 3.
  14. OOh thanks for this! Though I will echo Kurkistan on what the exact question was. As for the Dor being Cognitive thing, my understanding of the situation is that the Dor is made up of the Splintered remains of Devotion and Dominion and as such is constituted of Investiture. Which is not primarily "of" any of the Realms. That said the Dor /is/ located in the Cognitive Realm (this is why it's so dangerous to go there in the region corresponding to Sel). So while the Dor is not Cognitive by nature, it could be argued to be Cognitive by location.
  15. I'd say it is very unlikely that Vasher will end up being one of the 10 flashback characters. Not only is he not in Brandon's current line-up (Kaladin, Shallan, Szeth, Eshonai, Dalinar, Renarin, Jasnah, Lift, Taln, and Shalash) but Brandon has never even mentioned the possibility of him being one. Essentially Warbreaker and Nightblood are his flashback books.
  16. I'm pretty sure TheYoungBard just typoed on that. His next project is Stormlight 3, once /that/ is finished he will be moving on to (preferably) The Aztlanian and then The Lost Metal. And Zas is right about the 1980's Mistborn coming before the back five of Stormlight, Brandon has said that time and time again. And Alcatraz is due out next May/June (since the re-releases will likely be starting in January at one per month).
  17. I'd say we are quite sure given this: The thing is "Aviar" equals "bird with magic", but (most) people in-world don't understand where that magic comes from. So they look at the chicks of Aviar and wonder "Yo bird with magic, where's your magic?"
  18. They take place on the same planet so there are a couple easter eggs (such as references to countries and an Aon) but storywise there is noting in common between the two.
  19. Technically it's "Cosmere Fandom Still Best Fandom" but Zas is right it's the fandom tag for the cosmere (and other Brandon stuff) over on tumblr. It was originally FeatherWriter's but it eventually got co-opted by the (tumblr) fandom at large.
  20. That's just a theory, Brandon refuses to comment on that either way.
  21. I once thought that the cosmere was a joke and then that it was a really weird idea (and not in a good way). And then I actually read the books, the rest is history.
  22. The three shards on/involved with Roshar are Honor, Cultivation, and Odium. There are no if ands or buts about it. People have brought up this discussion time and time again but there isn't anything hiding here. (source)
  23. I've always imagined that the lines being blue had something to do with Prussian blue.
  24. The thing is Aviar is not a species either. "Aviar" describes a bird with magic powers, it's kind of like "Mistborn" or "Misting" in that regard, it really has nothing to do with their species (of which the are multiple that become Aviar). Like to be an Aviar they have to eat the parasites as chicks, which is why when Aviar's breed outside of the Pantheon their chicks do not bestow talents. Sak is from a mainlander species which doesn't even customarily become Aviar. But basically that was a note mostly to the other wiki admins as something we need to discuss in the next staff meeting.
  25. Was Nightblood's sheath a part of Nightblood when it was Awakened? Or was it added at a later point? Are Nightblood's sheath and the shardblade guards made of the same material? Are they related in any significant way?
