  1. The Well is still significantly more powerful than a divine breath. Darnam is right, that analogy is not really accurate. Also, in regards to your "How many breaths make up Endowment?" Do you mean breath or divine breath because the first is part of a person's soul (as well as a part of their innate investiture) while the latter is a splinter of Endowment. As for the answer I'd think the magnitude would be so immense as to be incomprehensible.
  2. The metallic arts are among the most portable, they do not lose power the farther one is from Scadrial. Also they do not "access the spiritual power of Scadrial" they use the power of Preservation/Ruin. Sel's magic loses power because it is region-locked, the metallic arts are not. I agree though, Scadrian metals are not required for the metallic arts.
  3. Steelhunt (and maybe WoR) spoilers should be tagged though. (Actually, I think the policy is still "No Steelhunt spoilers outside the Steelhunt spoiler forum")
  4. 1) No, they would not be termed slivers. A sliver is a person who has held the majority of a shard's power and since released it, this in no way describes the Returned. Endowment still controls the bulk of its power. Returned are not slivers. 2) Although people, when they die, pass through the Cognitive and Spiritual Realms, dead people do not reside in the Spiritual Realm, their final resting place is beyond the Three Realms.
  5. Time for another installment of Weiry's Pet Peeves! It would actually be "Knowledge by Diffusion" as the term osmosis refers specifically to the diffusion of water across a semi-permeable membrane. (source)
  6. Adonalsium-invested spren do exist, its WoB. Spren are very much a Roshar thing so they wouldn't appear on the other shardworlds. I am very skeptical though about adospren being involved in Surgebinding, it just feels wrong to me.
  7. The Radiant was a member of the Stonewards which is order 9, growth is shared between Orders 4/5. We also know that there are fabrials that can mimic all the radiant abilites so occam's razor would say it was a fabrial.
  8. I'm curious as to why you bring up the Returned, they aren't slivers, they hold splinters in the form of the divine breaths.
  9. I think you are misunderstanding it, I think they are trying to say "the formation of the Knights Radiant was a surprise to the Almighty" meaning he did not play a role in creating them, the spren did it of their own volition. and no we never got a recording/transcription of that scene, Brandon hasn't read it since.
  10. (1) This has not been Confirmed (2) This comes from here
  11. I'm looking for the quote right now, but Brandon has said that more than one feruchemist can invest the same metal, that the charges are just stored in separate parts of the metal. Edit: Here it is.
  12. umm... Do you have a quote for that? Because I don't remember anything like that.
  13. There is absolutely no indication that "Cultivation" (as in the holder) no longer holds the shard. She is still alive and well, besides her lover being dead.
  14. Nothing happens to the charge if its metal is melted unless it is mixed with another metal.
  15. There is no officially available list but some enterprising members have endeavored in making one. (This is one such thread in which people have been discussing it and has links to the rest)
  16. I believe Darnam's confusion about the Arelish forming the same kind of government from you conflating "dominion" and "government" in post #12. On the discussion of Elashe and the first Elantrians. People first began to be taken by the Shaod several decades after King Raoshem settles in Elantris. Also, there is no indication that Elashe was the first to be taken by the Shaod (which is a "fact" I've seen mentioned in this thread) she is only described as the first of Raoshem's line to be taken. Link discussing first Elantrians Link for Devotion to Dominion theory
  17. First of all the Physical realm is not "the real world," all three realms are equally "real". Also we have WoB that distances are different in the Cognitive Realm (source)
  18. Not yet, last we heard Howard and Dan were still finishing writing theirs, and then they are planning on doing podcast episodes where they critique/workshop each one. I think the plan is still to get it out this year though, or at least I think so.
  19. For the sake of completeness the "____ Anthology" should be the Writing Excuses Anthology. Great job getting all these questions/answers!
  20. Brandon just tweeted a link to the video recording of the event. To those who actually went, how was it? Paperclip did Brandon accept your offer of a Hot Dog?
  21. Hmm... I don't know how "boring" this is but its worth a try famous sculptor drives himself temporarily insane
  22. Hmm... it says "girls" as in plural. I'll say Adolin.
  23. This might be of use to this discussion. Personally, I don't think it has to do with a failed bond with a Cryptic.
  24. Personally, I wouldn't say it was nitpicking. You were saying they weren't opposites when in fact they are. Shardic Intents, while often described by a single word, are very complex. Yes, the "words" are not opposites but the Intents are. Also the point of this thread is to discuss why certain groups of shards settled together. One reason is because of complementary/opposing intents as is the case with Ruin/Preservation. Honor and Cultivation do not fall into that group, no one is trying to say that their intents are complementary, they settled together because of their romantic relationship.
