The actual definition of Focus is nowhere so far as I know. The thing that come closer to the "Focus"'s definition, it's what Mister Sanderson said about Metals on Scadrial "On Scadrial the Metals aren't Invested themself but they are gateway to Investiture" with a little loss of precision I think I may generalize a bit and say "A Focus is a gateway to Investiture" and with another (but more elengant) definition I think it better to say: "A Shardworld's focus is a way to the Magic Systems native of that Shardworld to express themself" (of course this is a definition made by myself and has nothing of Canon) Returning to the specific, whatever the Taldain's Focus is (light/ plant/water/poweroflove/ecc...) it will be a common element in every Magic Systems native of Taldain. PS: I hope nobody resented if I explain the Focus's concept in those terms.

Yeah something like "ZANE! I am God, you are my chosen one and I want to give you power beyond the other pity mistborn. All you have to do, is spike yourself with a Spike an serve of mine will take to you". Then a Ruin's servant will happear at the right moment with the Mistical Spike, and Zane may began to think that it's not crazy but God spoke with him

really O.O ? (I am still waiting to read the graphic novel)

@tennischamp5 in this case, you will probably don't like neither the next trilogies. To be honest I always hated how in classical Fantasy books... the time is "frozen", the centuries go and leave and the world remains always the same. I really liked the Scadrial's evolution and probably we saw some kind of development also in other shardworlds, after all the magics opens new way to discover things and made the science to progress

Steellines/Ironlines are Spiritual in nature. I don't think Tin would be capable to enhance it
-
the Spike is made of Steel, H-Iron steals Human's Strength.... In the boos many time is stated how He was capable to Steelpush, this is why... He had an Hemalurgical upgrade to his base Allomantic steel we don't know the reasons, but in some way Zane spiked himself.

Wax and Wayne books are quite strange. I will explain me better: - Alloy of Law: well you are placed in a Scadrial like you never saw it. Things happened in the centuries and to you many things are like re-meet an old friend and his son - Shadow of Self: Ok this book is strange, because in few words... it talk about something of a really different scale than the standard Mistborn's book - Bands of Mourning: Ok this is hard to explain... Are you a huge fan of action ? You will love it, Are you an huge fan of Scadrial? You will discovers things that are hidden from the first trilogy. Are you a fan of Realmatic Theory or a Theorycrafter ? OK man you will need a Soother to avoid your excitement to go over the limit. Seriously, the books are good. really. Maybe you may don't like the historical period... But I too don't like those period and yet I loved the books (just Shadows of Self left me a strange feel)

Some kind of Infiltration is possible. But one think is some little amount of Investiture (and yes some tons of Godmetals is something little to a Shard) after all also Ruin can't simply find his missing Atium and it was part of his own body. Another thing is a Shard who arrives on Scadrial and Invest a great amount of Power there... It would be impossible to miss something like that, Harmony would be letteraly face to face with the other Shard... In the Spiritual Realm, quite face to face.... There is a similar scene in one Mistborn book but I would avoid to spoil you something if you didn't read it ;-)

I am not really about "cloud Mastery" but if we take this Faces as Magical Effect, It would be a pro about your Idea about the Water Focus. They (???) may manipulate water in gassous form to affect the cloud.
-
@Pathfinder like you already knows I think in the same way as you about Taldain's Magic... But we can't be sure if Taldain's Focus is water or plant, right ?
-
well it's all depends on the kind of Star... If the Taldain's Sun emit a lot of light in the visible Spectrum and just little in the UV it's quite normal to see no sunburn. But probably the truth is another Taldain's humans may be simply adapted to tollerate high concentration of UV... The Darkside's one have an high UV resistence and because a Dayside who passed some time on Darkside never mentions Sunburn (or something similar with another name) we may conclude that also Dayside's Human are high UV resistant

I don't think even the Lord Ruler may do this... Really they are too far away. I am pretty sure.

I don't know... It seems to me too specific for Sanderson. I think simply He implant some Cognitive Command in his Breath (like any other Awakening) and then give those Breath to the Girl...in this way the Erase Breath would merge with the girl's one and affect her cognitive. Probably this may be used to performe other mental manipulation

Leras chose the 16because The Scadrialian have to recognize it for the number of magic metals on Scadrial itself. I don't think a Shard may change something like that, but Leras is a Special case... He (with Ati) created the whole world who then influence the magic systems... He could made Scadrial ad Hoc... But Ati probably would have similar power on this. -
I have to be honest... I think the situation is far less simple than this. For what we know, Darkside has no a source of Investiture (like Dayside's sun)... Therefore How this plant/fungi may do what they do it's unclear. I am one of the firsts (or maybe the first, i don't remember) who develop the Plant as Taldain's Focus but this new Information made me stress my brain to find an avaliable new model (a model who works for both Dayside and Darkside)

I am not talking of Sazed's deduction. But another dialog in Secret History who removes every kind of doubt PS: The Sazed's deduction alone would be enough ... It reached that deduction after pick up the Shards, his knowledge and mind was greatly improved -

The 16 as Preservation's Message to mankind is sure at 100% by in-world Material. I will not say more because, probably you didn't read this material, but we have a sure proof -
May I ask you to send me through PM your Idea ?

I don't think the Dayside's light and Darkside's light are analous to metals- The Metals on Scadrial are a Focus... A way through the Investiture is trasformed and became a magical effect. Instead on Taldain the Sunlight is Invested right, but the light isn't the Taldain's Focus (just to see that the White Sand may works without light and can be recharged by other kind of Investiture). The Sunlight is invested in the same way the Mists of the Highstorm are Invested...an Investiture spreading tool.

Not every Radiant Spren of old time died. Just the one bonded with Human when the Radiant Knight decided to break their Oaths. But there are Spren don't bonded with Humans (maybe because their previous knight died or something like that)

But you can't awake a living being... you will end just to give to him your Breath I suppose (this is a question nodoby did). About the Squirrel liveless... Vasher used the one-breath-lifeless command... To be honest I don't think someone other than him may do this on a Squirrel without boost the Breath needed. After all saying the right Command it's just a little part of the Awakening, the mental image is the hard part and the difference between a skilled Awakener or a noob it's just in their abilities to form solid Mental Images.

Brandon said to us, that there is a "trick" the Southern know to made the metalmind think you have the right power. Probably the trick may be used with every other metalmind, but the effect would be less cool... after all a Golmind with this Trick will be a Goldmind where you can tap Health but you can't store it... It may have a lot of applications. I think it would be how the Metallic Arts will be exploited in the future Scadrial's Economy

For his proprieties I really think it's not a Mundane Metal, but a Godmetal... I have to figure How it does what we saw, probably it is the Ettmetal's Feruchemical Power.
-
Now that you made me notice it... On Darkside the lichen don't grow... this mean that their light isn't invested right ? Or some white sand may grow on Darkside....unless other species are more skilled to steal/absord Darkside's light and the lichen die.

Lightweavers might be the Strongest of the 10 Radiant Groups
Yata replied to TheBlueShifting's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think the Magic's emulation is beyond Illumination's ability. After all if we for hypothesis say that Illumination may be used to create everykind of waveforms (beyond the visible spectrum) with the right amount of Stormlight. It can't still generate effect on other realms....many if not all the magic work with some Cognitive or Spiritual Effect. These are thing you can't emulate with physical waveform. For example (to stay into Stormlight Archive's magic) you can't change Spiritual Bond with a physical waveform and the Gravity Surge may this. At the same thime you can Soulcast nothing with Waveform...well you may turn things to cinder with microwave but it's not the same thing- 32 replies
