  1. yes but remember that it is a star charts based on Worldhopper knowledge not real astronomical knowledge... Their map may be really oddly or with strange features. But in the end we may still understand how the planets are connected
  2. There is a WoB somewhere that talk of Adesion and Progression like GodSurge. Or to be more precise, someone ask Brandon if there is that can be similar to Godmetal in the Surgebinding. And he replied with those two surges, but just in the meaning to be more closely linked to Honor (Adesion) and Cultivation (Progression) than the others surges. Of course it's to note that both Windrunner and Bondsmith (the one strictly associated to Honor) have Adesion Surge and both the Edgedancer and Truthwatcher have the Progression Surge
  3. We began to mix thing... More Investiture is not equal to more power. For example the famous BoM are less Invested than a Shardblade (Not Nightblood, but of every kind of Shardblade) but in the end, the BoM puts a quite godlike power at his owner's comand. There is a difference between how much Investiture you have and how you use it. There is probably a Realmatical Reason for Nightblood's level of power (I still think is in Nightblood's unbalance as a being and the contrast between Endowment's Intent and Nightblood's need. But I have no real proofs)
  4. I say (but it's not a very rigid definition) that: Allomancy is the ability to generate effects (coded in your S-DNA) from raw Investiture (standardly Preservation power) using the appropriate metal as limitator of power. Probably you may use every kind of raw investiture to make Allomancy works (I don't know why you want to do, but it's another problem)... But probably the tricks needed to performe some hack are not worthy the effort
  5. I think nothing, it is (if it is true that just some people may do it) a on-off ability (like for example the Awekening power)
  6. There is a thing we have to remember. We have a Wob (at least I find it again I will post here) that talk about the difference between Inner and external Magic System. How this two kinds of powers works differently and how other features of the magic system is forced by his "type" EDIT:
  7. I am still not convinced about the "Spikes the eyes to get a better Steelsight"... I may see how remove the main sense to an Inquisitor push him to develop better Steelsight (is something similar to what happened in real world with blind people). But I don't think you need to spike the eyes to obtain this effect. you may "simply" blind an Inquisitor in other way to get the same effect. In few world I say that a blind coinshoot will be probably skilled as an Inquisitor (well if they have the same Allomantic steel power). Not something builded within Hemalurgy uses. Of course this doesn't mean that an Inquisitor may be spiked in other bindpoint (to trasform it in an Inquisitor) but only that their Skilled Steelsight is not so obviusly connected with their Spikes placement.
  8. Ari, I am working to the same problem for a while and I understand your point. Later I will post a better answer to your post (I have no time now and I need a lot of time to write and check what I post) but I may say that I come to some conclusions similar to your own (also if in others parts I disagree with you). I used of course different terms to what you called "Manifestation" (at first Essence to link it to the in-world knowledge and then Vector to actually describe the phenomen and avoid confusion with the Vorin's Essence). Of course there are better terms but I suggest you to change your "manifestation" because it has already a meaning in Cosmere's in-world knowledge... the "Manifestations of Investiture" are what we call "Magic Systems". It may cause some confusion (of course you don't have to use my term but just I think it's better to change it before the topic began to be too big to change it)
  9. It's not canonical yet... they said that the rightful timeline would be released after White Sand (maybe in the Novella I don't know)
  10. I think they may be killed like everyone else, but if they are awake they may be "shape their body and remove wound and other harmful effects". They still need to active change their structure. Probably you may just hit in the head (or when they fall a sleep) and kill like other being.
  11. mmm I will search the direct reference. This is not the peter's one but, Brandon said this: Maybe I am reading wrong the sentence. But seems to say (talking about SA or AoL) that Elantris is very before those two series and there is White Sand in the time between Elantris and those stories.
  12. The Elantrian (also the new of of Elantris book) have libraries of old pre-reod knowledge. They have a "starting point" much advanced than Khriss. An Elantrian is also a Magic User with tons of flexibility in his Magic System...They may test and try a lot of things better than someone like Khriss. Last but not for its importance, the IRE are probably Elantrian from a pre-reod time. They may have left Sel to hunt down Preservation centuries/millenia before we see them... After all the prize is worth thousands of years of wait. PS: Peter once said that Elantris is before White Sand, but he can't be sure and after White Sand release they would canonize the timeline... But some thing have to be checked before that
  13. I think that like many other things on Roshar, the answer is "Heralds' knowledge". After all ancient Roshar people recived (letteraly) knowledge of other metals before they can actually mined it (Taln itself said that another Herald would soulcast for them many Steel because it's faster than teach them how to mine and forge it). On Roshar the mining and metallurgy science is very obsolete. Quite all the metal object you see is wood soulcasted to metal (and thinking about it, when every inc of earth is rock, mining is really hard I suppose)
  14. But if this is the matter, Mister Sanderson may simply reveal how Glys appear in the physical realm.
  15. Yes you understood the main point (For example I think Lift will see Pattern more like the Cryptics Shallan saw in the Cognitive).
  16. @Erklitt Of course you may have right, but for example knowing that Nale will never try to hunt our main characters (Kaladin, Renarin, Shallan, Dalinar, Jasnah) because he hunt only the Edgedancers is something really relevant to the story I think.... But I may see how my motivations aren't really solid
  17. Maybe it's not really relevant what Ym was. But I have an idea about the reason mister sanderson don't want to tell us how Glys is (an yes this reason is linked to Ym, Nale and Lift). I think Nale is hunting down only the Edgedancers (for some reason that at the moment I can't truly understand), maybe it's something like "their attitude would cause problems in the future", If he tell us how Glys looks we know quite in the same time, if Ym was Truthwatcher or Edgedancer... And together we may see how the only two attacks of Nale showed to us are about the same order (or we may see my idea be destroyed) He also show us a not standard Edgedancer. Lift sees her spren differenly than how a standard human would see that kind of spren... This may be some kind of Brandon's misdirection to us (and Ym had an attitute for charity like Lift but we saw too little of the character to use this as proof).
  18. But when you compound you don't "burn all at one" You still burn at the rate your allomancy allows you to burn. As allomancer you have a fixed amount of "Preservation's power" you may use per second. When you compound this limit still exist...You use the same channel after all, just the Preservation-Stream is filtred by something different than a standard metal. This mean that while both TLR and Miles may compound Gold and obtain the same Health from the same amount of charged Gold. TLR may burn a Goldmind faster than Miles (Savantism may change the limit, I know but TLR is in another Tier at all... It's the reason I choose him for the example). An example in book: TLR can't live forever because with Atium Compound because He would reach the point where he can't generate Youth fast enogh. Of course He as the hard and absolute limit of the whole Atium in the world and his recharge time. But he would fail to stay alive before this point. He would be uncapable of burning fast enough great amount of Atiummind to keep his growing need of Youth.... He will probably reach the point where the only choose left will be to "re-discover Duralluminium" to speed up those process or die.
  19. I always saw the Black Smoke of Nightblood as a twisting of Shard-Investiture's Mandate. For example Nightblood is an Endowment's creature who take with force (aganist Endowment's intent/mandate) and doing it, can't keep the Investiture. This may be possible both for Nightblood be an Endowment creature or for the Breath to be taken with force. It will be really usefull to see who the Nightblood's leaking will be when fueled with Stormlight (it will remove the Breath-taken with force-problem to help us with a new model). I find this part quite strange, after all we have a lot of WoB that say "nightblood may feed all kinds of Kinetic Investiture" and we know Nightblood's hunger keep growing while used... I don't think Nightblood may drain more than he need to. EDIT: It just come to me an Idea...Can you give some breath to Nightblood ? (willing with the Command "My life is your, My Breath became yours") it may be the perfect case to test quite all Nightblood's function.
  20. I think the same, well we have a little clue but I can't call it "a proof". The Listener seems to predate Humans and Shards on Roshar. They are Spren dependant (their whole evolution-creation is about be a uncomplete be that may became complete through Spren's bond) and they need: 1) A spren to bond with 2) A great amount of Investiture to perform the trasformation Of course we know already there are AdonalsiumSpren on Roshar but I find unlikely that Adonalsium designed the Listeners to be uncapable of trasform within their own ecology. A possible answer is "the Stormlight is always part of the Highstorm as a Investiture left by Adonalsium to made possible the peculiar Roshar's ecology". Remember that an Huge Amount of Investiture left on Roshar may be also the cause of the Spren manifestation... There ara a lot of power who shifted on the planet and the Realms buonds are weaker. (I may use a extremely wrong wording but it's like if Roshar itself is a Pseudo-Perpendicularity where the realms tend to overlapping) But this may be see as a proof or not based by someone's position on the matter (I am not exactly an impartial Judge )
  21. I don't know how fast they may recover knowledge, as far as I know there isn't much Libraries untouched like the Galladon's one. But with a large Magic Users base, it's possible through experimentation to develop fast new Magic knowledges (If I don't remember wrong Elantris 2 is about 10 years after Elantris 1 therefore they have probably grow Sapient but not too much) PS: I know how you feel, I gived up to wait the Cosmere's books in my own Language. I began to read them in English to avoid being too far back here on the forum (Here Sanderson fan are still waiting Shadow of Self )
  22. Probably is just about his personality, action and history. He may be within the Well and his Soul may be expanded a bit with Preservation's power... But this didn't change too much his Connection. Also after that he was an agent of caos aganist Ruin. Then just a last point, from Kelsier's Point of View... His Connection to Preservation is a lot of time weaker than his Connection to Ruin... But this may be meaningless in absolutes (He may see only the relative amount of Ruin and Preservation's Connections to him). We know that Kelsier as Mistborn have a strong Connection to Preservation....This mean that he has an Huge Connection to Ruin.
  23. You may do this without Compounding (if you are capable to use Feruchemical nicrosil )
  24. Black is the result of mixed Investiture, but can be also a Shard's Investiture color. Mistborn Spoiler
  25. Ruin kept creating Inquisitors with eyes spiked, therefore it's probably related to the Inquisitor trasformation than TLR design to give then some disadvantage.
