I've always assumed it was a bit like filling a bottle with water and wrapping a bit of string around the outside, they're both attached to the bottle but they dont interfere with each other
-
Is it worth pointing out that BWS is a chain of bottle shops in Australia and if anyone uses that I will wonder why they decided to stop theorising and buy alcohol...

Random (Important?) Observations about The Way of Kings
dj26792 replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
The highstorms coming from cultivation is surprisingly well supported, to cultivate something you cut away select bits to encourage growth, the highstorms are very destructive but they bring crem which encourages growth. They also seem to bind communities together which is also growth... there are more exsmples but I can't be bothered to find/think of them -
Its not ten seconds its ten heartbeats the difference is quite significant, ten seconds is fixed ten heartbeats gets quicker as you get more excited/angry/in a combat situation.

It burns away the metal and potentially could be used to burn awsy other things in the body like poisons. In answer to the 2nd part, if they burnt the store of determination (I think its determination) they would compound it, if they burnt the aluminium they would burn away the store.

And neither do super aons at the heart of seons, even if they are a neccessary part of the seon the splinter still isn't sentient on its own.
-
And the splinter that is part of seons is the Aon inside them, seons aren't themselves a splinter.

While that quote says its at least possible for other allomancers to sense these trace elements, as hemalurgic creations inquisitors are different and they're sight is fundamentally different to just enhanced power although they do also have that.
-
I actually think its a bit of both, Odium would have to change his identity to put out magic in a scadrialese form, but he would also have to change the identity of people to accept/access his power in order for them to be able to use his magic, although I'm struggling with what that would look like my best guess is changing his identity to produce a metal and their identity to produce a 4th metallic art
-
Can't remember where this is from but I'm pretty sure an Inquisitors vision is fundamentally different to normal seeing the metals you can pull/push. An inquisitor can see the metals inside somebodies body we know that for sure. However they don't appear to be able to push on them, which as you say would be more power than it would be wise for tLR to give them... although random tangent, tLR is more invested than most so there could be a strength level to push on normal peoples earrings but not his... however the inquisitors don't seem to be there either. But now that someone else mentions it its more likely that the tell is that they aren't affected by emotional allomancy at all. Although I stand by my theory as something that could make an inquisitor curious enough to try.
-
Not on the inside of the body and the inquisitors would see that the metals were inside the body, and also too large to be swallowed.

I definitely prefer the UK editions of most fantasy books that generally have simple graphics rather than pictures of characters

I dont know, we saw spook get crazy strong from becoming a savant, and he was still getting stronger, if a savant is 3 times as powerful and spook was at least that what could the Lord ruler who started much stronger and was also a sliver manage with savant powers? That scene in the square seems at least a little bit plausible to me if thats all thats going on.
-
It irks me slightly that he is holding the spear backwards... he cant strike from that angle effectively with that grip... I think its probably a little sad that thats what I notice in the picture

How quickly do you lose Stormlight? An inconsistency?
dj26792 replied to Havoc's topic in Stormlight Archive
That sort of confirms that Szeth will arrive and therefore presumably confront Dalinar in WoR, which I always assumed but wasn't confirmed and has been the subject of some speculation -
Rashek buried it under ground, at the pits of Hathsin, I cant remember if there is more to it than that or not, but I feel like there may have been.

The evil genie game... With a Sanderson twist
dj26792 replied to Oneyespike's topic in General Brandon Discussion
It gives you the ability to perform hemalurgy with greater and greater efficiency unfortunately as all attempts at learning to harness this ability involve murder, those few who discover this and attempt to learn to use this new and improved power lead the UN to conclude that the 17th shard is clearly a terrorist training ground and send special forces groups to arrest and execute all contributing members, while the few hemalurgically enhanced members of the group are able to put up a decent fight due to their enhanced abilities all are eventually captured or killed. Brandon Sanderson is also arrested and prevented from writing further due to his role in inciting terrorism, the nature of the murders is eventually cleared up, but really thats when the real horror begins as Dictators the world over begin to experiment... I wish I could reform and take up Devotion, and Dominion. (I don't even know what that combination looks like but somebody have fun with it ) -
He came to a convention in Sydney that was a week before I got home and would otherwise have been going to whether or not Brandon was there. That was probably my one and only chance to meet him in the near future since I'm even further away than you (Australia) and also a poor student for the next few years at least.

The evil genie game... With a Sanderson twist

You were a bit too close to the action and received crippling spinal injuries that paralysed your whole body except the left side of your face. I wish I was a skilled forger. -
yeah sorry its late here and I'm half asleep I should probably come back and do this properly tomorrow, it would be good practice for my structural subjects this semester. What I should have said was that if you want to do a more thorough weight analysis for this sort of application some variation of the pratt truss bridge design would be ideal, and further information on such a design can easily be googled, I stand by 3 inches being far too thin for the bridge to be structurally sound, it wouldn't have a big enough moment of inertia to resist even the lighter Rosharian gravity. Without doing the calculations I'll stick with my last estimate of 300mm and come back tomorrow or sometime in the next few days and design the lightest bridge I can that has a chance of supporting the necessary weight and see if it is light enough for 25 men to reasonably carry it.

You are on Earth, there is no stormlight and your honourspren starves to death leaving you to watch in helpless agony. I wish I was a Dakhor Monk -
it would be much more structurally efficient to make a compact pratt-truss bridge design which would be stronger and thicker for the same amount of material and most importantly more rigid, I would imagine that for most of its length the bridge is at least 300mm-500mm thick with sloped ends to bring it down to a smooth entry and exit. This would be required to make it rigid enough to extend over the chasm without bending down and being too low to end up on the other side of the chasm. this also means less material in contact with the ground and therefore significantly less friction. A bridge is much better than a solid piece of wood. which is what your calculations seem based off... (I haven't done any calculations, this is all estimated, but equally I am studying to be an engineer and last year did an assignment where I designed a bridge so its educated estimation)
-
While I'm not sure that specific question has been asked, every question involving objects partially in and partially out of the bubble has been the same all in, or all out, so I would suggest this is impossible as the person would have to be all in the bubble and therefore their whole body affected by the bubble or completely outside the bubble and therefore unaffected by the bubble.

I'm with Kurk on that being Calculus, after all if Simpsons method and the trapezoidal equation are numerical estimations of calculus that use parabolas and trapezium's respectively, adding triangles does not make it significantly different from calculus.

I feel like the lack of rails makes it significantly more difficult to make the bridge rigid enough to extend across a 20 foot chasm... basic mechanics is that the thickness of the bridge dictates how rigid it will be, adding a rail would make it significantly stronger, even just a kerb would be incredibly beneficial. Also I mentioned the ropes as a way of lifting the end of the bridge to make it easier to lift the bridge slightly to get it onto a slightly higher platform, they would obviously be unnecessary if the bridge was going to a arrive at the other side of the chasm higher than the other plateau.
