  1. Excerpt from the coppermind Now if you go to the sliver page you get this: Interestingly enough Hoid isn't on this list. So this got me thinking, was it an issue of sliver semantics or did Hoid actually hold a shard at the shattering then declined it?
  2. I agree with @Kingsdaughter613. Although we still don't know what Demoux is doing worldhopping 300 years after we last saw him. Good question though. I had pretty much forgot about that purelake scene.
  3. From an emotional standpoint I would like this to happen. But as much as bridge four represents honour and courage and loyalty, I don't think it's going to create a new spren. The only two spren like you suggest that we have seen are the Tower and Cusicesh, and I think Cusicesh may be one of the unmade.
  4. Maybe. I wouldn't say death is an instinct as much as an inevitability though.
  5. Nightblood was awakened with 1000 breaths, although Shashara likely had at least 20 000 in order to do it. And it's 2000 to become immortal. The God King had at least 40 000. I would think in addition to his divine breath he would have to qualify. Isn't it Dalinar?
  6. Excellent, so we agree! I can't figure out what the fourth category would be though. Any thoughts?
  7. You could be right. Certainly Rayse wants to rule and I can think of someone else in his position who also wants to but it's possible that's just coincidence.
  8. I'm not sure about the Sja-anat comment. I can't recall it. But there is a WOB stating that the reason Odium was splintering shards is because he wants to rule the cosmere and they are a threat. And I wouldn't say hate and being a ruler are in opposition, although it would be a terrible place to live. I know what you mean about a create dawnshard but if the dawnshards are like divine commands of a creator god (and I think that is the general opinion) then I believe create needs to be one. Logical choices as @Leuthie pointed out would be create, destroy, change, and bind/unite. But if you consider the Cosmere a universe in which entropy exists then it wouldn't be necessary for that God to have destroy as a core part of what it is. I know Ruin kind of represents this but that is only 1/16 of the whole and there is some measure of destruction in creating something. Sure your intention is to make something but in changing the parts of the whole they cease to be what they were. I got pretty philosophical there, and maybe that makes it unnecessarily complicated but I think Brandon was probably thinking along the same lines when he came up with all of this.
  9. It's also possible it was brought to Roshar by one of the other groups who call Roshar home like the amians or iriali.
  10. Im glad someone else is trying to put these together. I've felt like a crazy person theorizing how they all fit together but I was coming up short on making enough connections for a theory. First thing, who is Tsih? I found no mention of this on the coppermind or the Arcanum. So I think we can assume that the wisdom shard whatever it's exact intent is was the one who was trying to hide, but has since decided to stop. That doesn't feel right for a dawnshard, so I don't think survive is correct. We know change and something along the lines of unite seems right as well. I agree with all the choices for unite and change except Endowment. Odium wants to unite the Cosmere under his rule so I think that also fits with this theme. That leaves invention, preservation, endowment, valour, ambition, autonomy, mercy and the remaining two. I think one dawnshard could be create or grow or expand, something along those lines. It would include Invention, Preservation, and Endowment. Another possibility would be something like achieve. This would include ambition, valour, and invention. Unfortunately I can put the remainder of either option into a fourth category...
  11. Hmm, it very much matches the other two in terms of how its ability manifests passively over a large area. It doesn't really compare with the other two though. I don't know how precognition can be connected to a natural instinct. Maybe it is connected to man's search for a higher power which could manifest as a connection to the spiritual realm in the cosmere. I don't know. It could just be a splinter of Odium since he seems to be connected to seeing the future. I don't think we have a description of Moelach, so unfortunately that doesn't further the corruption idea either way
  12. It is interesting that some are red and some are black, even if its violet black. What makes them different? Nergaoul is the source of the thrill, the bloodlust of battle. What could it have been before being corrupted? Maybe the instinct to protect yourself. It's said to be mostly mindless Theres a quote from Hessia that says Ashtermarn 'is the final of the three great Mindless Unmade.' Unfortunately we don't know the other at this time. Ashertmarn is the heart of the revel, the drive to indulge in food and drink. Maybe the instinct to feed. I think the third mindless unmade might be the drive to procreate, completing the base instincts of animals. In any case Ashertmarn is described as black so that's kind of a dead end on the colour equals corruption thing.
  13. I posted this in response to a thread about Endowments magic but decided to post here as well after a little edit. I'm not interested in critiques of the grammar and punctuation and I know I say 'surgebinder' like 20 times but if you have any feelings about the story, good or bad, feel free to share.
  14. I'm not sure that steelpushing would be effective against radiants plate and blade. The blade, at least, is a spren and can just reform. [ROW SPOILER REMOVED BY MODERATOR] That being said, the fullborn is still going to win.
  15. Makes sense. Let's not forget about compounded emotional allomancy. Burn some zinc to make the surgebinder more aggressive then flare brass when they attack to crush their spirit. The biggest advantage the surgebinder has is their shards.
  16. I'm not a shipper but I'll play the game. Kaladin and Leshwi seem probable. They have a strong respect for one another, and they seek each other out every battle. But who do we always see together? Skar and Drehy. I mean I don't even think of their names separately. The only flaw in this... drar or skehy.
  17. The Lord Ruler was a fullborn. He had enhanced allomancy but I don't think he had access to all of the metals... someone feel free to correct me on that. Someone with the lord rulers power would be almost unstoppable. But we haven't seen all of the radiant orders yet, or any radiants who have sworn their fifth ideal. And would a 10 surge surgebinder have resonances between all of their surges? Tough call. I would have to say fullborn.
  18. My vote: 1. Way of Kings. They are all pretty good but this is the one that starts it all. 2. Oathbringer. WOR is the only one that wasn't surprising for me but this is our most Witty Wit epilogue. 3. Rhythm of War. Way of Kings looks great and its interesting but I'm still not sure who it's supposed to be. With the other two, the characters look good but there's not much to the background. Default!
  19. There is so much going on that we still don't understand after 4 massive books. Certainly dawnshards are not the only way to become extremely powerful. Ishar has been using the surges for thousands of years, learning all the secrets, possibly becoming a savant, and he is apparently no longer bound by oaths. Ishars abilities could be explained as simply as that and we haven't seen Dalinars full power yet, or maybe I'm just wrong. Hopefully we will get some answers in 2023.
  20. Ok now I dont like this theory! Lol Ishar had his Honor blade. We just don't know enough about dawnshards or honor blades, or the heralds to know anything for sure. You've got some good points. I guess I wasn't too clear. I didn't think connection was the dawnshards command just the general theme. Connect, unite, etc.
  21. I really like a lot about this theory. The Stormfather having a dawnshard makes a lot of sense. That explains why Dalinars surgebinding is so powerful and why the Sleepless are so concerned with Rysn not being a surgebinder. There are 4 dawnshards and 1 is different from the rest. What if the Bondsmith spren have 3 of the dawnshards? Maybe the Stormfathers dawnshard is Connection. It would also explain why there are 10 orders of radiants and only 9 for voidbinding..
  22. Exactly. He has an outline for the Cosmere as a whole and current projects. And he has the Dragonsteel stuff as sort of an endpoint. But when it comes time to write the book he's not like, "oh no, I told that dumb kid in Austin that Dalinar dies in book 5! Well back to the drawing board." Apologies to dumb kids in Austin.
  23. I think as long as the plot and character choices are consistent and the magic has a logic to it we have to accept that it's fantasy and suspend our disbelief a little. Plus everything was made by Adonalsium, so there's a reason.
  24. I think this was just to reinforce how different Kaladin and his father are. It could help explain the whole Kaladin weirdness but it would seem to contradict Hesinas backstory.
