This. Odium doesn't want to invest because once he's invested he basically has to leave that investiture when he moves on to destroy the next shard. He's been corrupting things because it requires him to give up very little. But once he became trapped on Roshar he realized he was going to need to invest to end this. Then the Heralds pulled the old switcheroo and left Taln on Ashyn. When Odium realized he wasn't going to break he had to invest further. The reason Odium now has a rhythm is because of how much he has invested. That investiture comes in the form of the Everstorm. At this point Odium basically is invested as much as the other shards. In his mind once he's won he will start divesting from Roshar. That's going to take a lot longer than he wanted but its his only option, and he's immortal so what's time?

Things we still don't know about Rosharan magics
KSub replied to Gilphon's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think that could be it. 'The fused have odiums magic - the regals forms of power are odium-cultivation hybrid -the Singer forms are cultivations magic -surgebinding is honor-cultivation hybrid -maybe the bondsmiths are honors magic? -voidbinding is honor-odium hybrid or is it a blend of all 3? Maybe? Thoughts? -

I wasn't being literal. Fine, the nightwatcher would give him an anti investiture gun but take the use of his hands. And he's still blind.

Not enough viewpoints! I come to Branderson through Robert Jordan so.... Actually, as I was writing my response I realized it's not viewpoints so much as lack of characters. We have 3 main povs in this book; Navani, Kaladin and Shallan. But they all seemed to be in isolation through most of the book. Maybe it's just due to my own personal isolation this past year, but I really wanted more team action. The little we see of Dalinar and Jasnah, who are in a war camp full of people, is mostly in a wagon, or a tent, or a flying lookout.

dawnshard Let's make groups of four, RoW edition
KSub replied to mathiau's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I see what your going for. Someone else suggested somwthing similar with preservation being in the change category as the absence of change. I considered it but ultimately the groupings are no better and it seems to go against the idea of the dawnshard command. -
Do you mean Kalak?

Personally, Damnation take Moash. But I'll give you my opinion on why he won't be a Bondsmith. Moash and Szeths stories share a lot. The key difference between them is Szeth did everything he did because he believed he had to. Moash does everything because he feels they deserve it. When Szeth reachs his lowest hes weeping and begging for death while continuing to do what he thinks he has to. Moash does what he wants, giving up any responsibility. In the end his only goal is to prove Kaladin is wrong for believing people can be good. What a cremling. Thats why Moash has been a terrible person and how we haven't seen any remorse from him to suggest he can change. Now, if he went to the Nightwatcher he would not come away well. Many people go to the nightwatcher, most regret that choice and I think those who come for personal gain are those who get the worst deal. Dalinar asked for forgiveness, Lift asked to remain who she was and their curses seem to have been more a gift. Taravangian asked for the capacity to save humanity but its yet to be determined if he will regret his visit. If Moash went to the nightwatcher he would likely ask for a weapon to destroy anyone who crossed him. He would be given Nightblood and then immediately draw it to kill the nightwatcher only to have Nightblood do its thing.

Oh right. I forgot she is going after BAM... with a Ghostblood.
-
Possible. I just believe there's always another secret with Kelsier.
-
I'm with you. So what are you suggesting?
-
That's true. It just feels like it is less restricted than the other magics. I guess it can be, something just feels off to me. So short of selling stormlight to other worlds I don't see why they would bother getting it offworld.
-
That is also my assumption. Which means there was a spy with Shallan and Adolin on the way to Lasting Integrity. And with Dalinar when he met Cultivation.
-
When do we see allomancy used on Roshar? The thing is stormlight and breaths aren't created offworld. If non Scadrian metal allows allomancy that would be unusual.

[Theory] Taln Wasn't the Herald Who Broke; It Was Chanarach
KSub replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Taln isn't insane? There's definitely more to the heralds madness than being tortured. As far as we can tell they were fine at the last desolation... err previous desolation. And Taln is the only one who has been on Braize since then. At least most of the others have not. It could be BAM, I don't have a better alternative. Although i don't think we have any evidence as to how that's possible. -
Fair enough. That seems odd though. Are Scadrians powers limited to the Scadrian system?
-
Is there confirmation of that? It would be great if they have been seeding the Cosmere with Rosharan investiture disguised as garbage. Even better, if that garbage was made of atium.

[Theory] Taln Wasn't the Herald Who Broke; It Was Chanarach
KSub replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's an interesting theory and if the Heralds were killing radiants because Ishar had a vision of the future that a radiant would cause the return, then this would be indirectly true. Although also caused by Ishar because of his prediction. (Anyone else not the biggest fan of Ishar?) I definitely agree, Taln didn't break. I had a theory on what allowed the fused to return but I can't remember right now.- 339 replies

It could be that simple. I wonder if they need Scadrian metal for their magic or if any metal will do? There could be a Scadarial Mining and Smelting Company on Roshar recycling all those old cans for investiture. You were probably joking but I think he has gotten past that.
-
Fair enough. I should have said people had so little faith in Kelsier. Side note: what's up with Felt? Is he a Ghostblood? A Kandra?
-
Good question. It's possible to transfer a bond, so Hoid may have simply give Designs bond to someone else. Or it could just be that Hoid already knows the how of it.
-
I'm surprised so many people are in the Kelsier hate camp. He's on a different world and can't come to Roshar. He mostly has to accept what the Rosharan agents do and trust that he is getting the relevant information. Iyatil could be one of those middle managers who just want to impress the boss. Maybe as far as she is concerned the bottom line is mraize is getting things done.
