  1. In RoW we got to see Raysium, the solid manifestation of Odiums power. But not just a glimpse. Raboniel teaches a class in Introductory Applications of Raysium for us. It conducts investiture, similar to how a normal metal would conduct electricity, except that it appears to only move in one direction. We've seen the Shanay-im fighting windrunners with spears tipped with Raysium. It draws off the windrunners stormlight so that they can be killed. And Moash used a Raysium dagger to kill Jezrien. He stabbed Jezrien, transferring his soul into a gem. This severed his connection to the oathpact, and just as stormlight leaks from a gem so too did Jezriens essence. So my question is why didn't this happen sooner? The fused had access to Raysium. They had weapons made from it. We've seen the fused kill Radiants with it. Did the other Heralds simply retrieve their trapped ally? Not likely because as soon as Jezrien is hit it severs his connection to the oathpact. Could they not land a single strike on a Herald? Kaladin fights several fused at the same time and we got to see Ishar make short work of several radiants. But we know eventually the Heralds were killed during the previous desolation so that can't be it either. And why was Moash given the dagger to kill Jezrien?
  2. Maybe I need to do a reread of era2 before the fourth book comes out.
  3. I think the burden is the fact that Taln is left alone to carry the oathpact. The nine are the other nine heralds. We know the heralds still share some connection since Shallash is aware of jezriens death. I think that Ishar changed the connections so that they were sort of one way. Taln feels what they do but not the reverse.
  4. It's not infinite power. By the time Wax puts down the Bands they are mostly used up.
  5. I think the glory statement is Fortune. It is a feruchemial ability so it likely increases your own fortune, whatever that means. Increased good fortune could be glory. But when Elend burns the atium and duralumin it gives him something akin to a shards ability to see the future. Elend is probably seeing Sazed taking up the shards. And thats why he says "I see"
  6. I know we don't really know anything about nicrosil still but do people think it can steal investiture? I just went through some chapter summaries for Bands and they are described as granting the power of allomancy of old. So it sounds like they are not that powerful. Yes they also have feruchemy and huge stores but the implementation of that power isn't exceptional in terms of what we the reader know. So probably any fullborn with enough stored investiture, a Herald, or anyone of similar power could beat someone with the bands. I think it's probably going to come down to experience.
  7. It's been so long since I read Elantris. So Brandon is saying the city represents a large series of 'code'? I guess that's what creates the Elantrians. I hope we get another book set on Sel before era4. It would be nice to have a clearer picture of what's going on there.

    Sentient Weapons

I didn't hear the explanation of the acronym. I just assumed it was a play on s.h.i.e.l.d. which I also don't know what it stands for.
  9. Thats what the 17th shard is. A club for people burned by Hoid.
  10. Sure. Back on track. Do you know why the line was the carpet turned from red to white?
  11. I knew someone who (at 25 years of age) subsisted on mostly fries and cheese pizza. How close does this come to describing your diet?
  12. He's also the one who told Nale the Radiants would cause the desolation and sent him on a killing spree. Ok. Nale started the desolation.
  13. Yeah I hate your picks ...Kidding. 1. Adolin. He's always looking to have a good time. 2. Raboniel. It would be exhausting to be a fused. Imagine the worst boss you've ever had. Now make that eternity. 3. Kaladin. 4. Any Herald. I can't wait for the back half so we can figure what's going on. 5. Syl. 6. Moash then Sadeas. Then Moash. Then Sadeas. 7. Renarin. It's not easy being the black sheep. 8. Teft. He was just trying to do it. One day at a time. 9. No one really. I guess Shallan if she could access her uncrazy side. I like a little crazy but that... 10. Is anyone ordinary enough for real life?
  14. I don't remember noticing that line when I read the book. Why does the carpet turn from red to white? Oh and my theory was that Nale started the desolation when he retrieved his honorblade. Its much less detailed than your theory. The Heralds gave up their oaths and abandoned their swords. I thought when Nale recovered his it may have reformed his connection to the oathpact. Like I said there's not many details, but I liked the irony that Nale would have caused the very thing he was trying to stop.
  15. *looks around* What rabbit hole have I fallen into?
  16. Really Chinkoln?! Alright, you win! 1. Not from roshar 2. Extremely old 3. Has futuresight/fortune etc 4. Was believed to have died 5. Last seen in the cognitive realm
  17. 1. This character is Not from Roshar
  18. Brightness tanalan You beat me to it chinkoln
  19. I don't know about solid state geochemistry but I thought the idea that stormlight replaces bonds within the crystal lattice was sciencey enough?
  20. It sounds a lot like powers granted by shards to me. I agree with what you're saying. I meant we don't know enough about the old magic to say if it's equivalent to surgebinding. We really don't know anything about voidbinding still. It is from the unmade but sja Anat is an unmade, so it doesn't rule out that it is exclusive to what she is doing.
  21. Singer forms are bonding spren to change their forms and grant special abilities. It's pretty similar to surgbinding in that context. Maybe this is Honors magic as it is a bond. I forgot about the old magic. But we know so little it's hard to say what it is. The fused as far as we have seen don't have spren. They possess singers and transform them into a fused. So it almost seems like the fused are spren. On the other hand, if voidbinding is the corrupted truthwatchers that we have seen then it would be a combination of all three shards powers.
