  1. Okay, so I basically just read through every single one of my posts that has been upvoted. I have come to several conclusions. 1. I am a narcissist. 2. I am freaking hilarious. 3. I might be just the tiniest bit conceited. 3.5 If I keep this up, my head will not be able to fit through the door.* 4. I've been on here a long time. 5. There have been some really great threads on here. Aww. Thanks for all the awesome memories, guys! *For this post, the role of Feather's ego will be played by an adorable fish. http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_1210.php
  2. So is it wierd that I can sing all of the lyrics to Song of the Dragonborn? Because I totally sang along to those Christmas lights.
  3. Yeah, I'm going to go with Sazed has changed, but he wasn't molded to the intents of the shards. That's always been my take on that whole business.
  4. Eh, it's a fake unfortunately. But hey, so was Jasnahs! Way of Kings is probably the only book where making a replica that doesn't work is more accurate!
  5. Consider this theory espoused! I like it and it makes sense for now! Also, I'm somewhat struck by how un-Alethi the name Thaidakar is. Makes me wonder about his nationality if all of these Alethi are mentioning him.
  6. That looks really cool! I love your take on them!
  7. Hmm. After this I might have to go espouse that Dragons can turn into Humans theory...
  8. Okay, it's time for some fun. I've been told that I am notoriously bad at catching foreshadowing while reading. I guess almost nothing while I read books. So I want to know, how good are you at getting foreshadowing? What insane catches have you made and what obvious things have you missed? So here's my most embarassing. The Shallan Shardblade thing? Took me two readthroughs to figure out. And it gets soooooo obvious by the end. I felt so silly. My friend also guessed the train car switch halfway through AoL and I had no idea. Pretty much, if it's not explicitly spelled out, I probably won't get it. And since I don't come to the forums during books, I pretty much get blindsided by every single plot twist. My sister on the other hand is really good at catching things. I read aloud to her, so I get to see her theorizing every step of the way. She caught that "OreSeur" was actually the kandra spy. The second mention of Kaladin's sphere's going dun and she's guessed that he's sucking the stormlight from them like Szeth. She guessed that Susebron had no tongue after only one night with Siri. Ugh, she makes me feel so incompetent. However that does make it fun when things totally blindside her. She got so mad when Denth turned out to be evil and when giving up the power at the Well ended up not being a good thing. We're not very far into WoK but I'm hoping some of the things in there will come out of the blue for her. Seeing her reations are one of the reasons I read aloud in the first place! Maybe it's because I skim when reading to myself, but when read aloud she gets every word. Maybe I accidentally give things away. I don't know. So what's your best and worst foreshadowing pick-up?
  9. What is the one case of Shards changing hands? Is it Kelsier handing off to Vin? Because I'm not sure that that would really count...
  10. Really into House of Heroes right now. God Save The Foolish Kings and Code Name: Raven are my favorites right now. God Save The Foolish Kings is apparently about gang violence somewhat. Code Name: Raven is about a French spy in WWII. Tell me those aren't awesome premises for songs! Also, Silus, you get upvotes because I'm wearing a Tobuscus shirt right now. And he is awesome. It's apparently MmNavy Monday
  11. I also like the idea that the Shardblades and the Thrill are of Odium. It seems to be reinforced by the line by the female Shardbearer in Dalinar's vision. Sounds like the Thrill is something that happens to Rosharians when when they fight, and the Knights Radiant seem to think that it needs to be controlled and contained. Random Theory Time: Odium made a deal with the Heralds: they stay with him between Desolations to be tortured while Odium provides weapons that can slice through anything. Odium takes the deal because he gets people to torture and a bunch of people going around with crazy powerful weapons. The Heralds/Radiants take it because they need the edge in the Desolations. But the Radiants think that they can control Odium's influence by relying on Honor - they use bonds and oaths to keep themselves from being corrupted. But normal people, without the oaths are completely susceptable to the influence.
  12. Okay, maybe I missed this, but how do we know where Roshar's equator is? Is it on the map somewhere?
  13. I'm in line with the "Oboe" theory. The fabrials exist and can be used by anyone, but it takes training. I mean, look at some of the fabrial Soulcastings in the book. Domes and buildings in the warcamps are Soulcast directly from the air. Seems like it would take a lot of skill to make something like that. How do you make sure that you're soulcasting a dome from the air and not just a brick or something else? Practice and skill.
  14. I think the Blades are probably resizable, but perhaps people have simply forgotten how to do it, or perhaps they can only do it a little bit. This coincides with a something in Warbreaker a little bit. Minor Warbreaker spoilers I like the idea of extending and retracting Shardblades, but I don't think it'd necessarily be possible on the battlefield. (And really, how much more deadly do Shardblades really need to be?) More likely I think you could change your Blade with conscious effort over a period of time. Hmm, I wonder how much you could change it? Could you perhaps make an entirely different weapon? I wouldn't mind seeing Kaladin weild a Shardspear! That'd be awesome! I've had some questions about the Blades themselves that I've never really been able to answer. What do they look like? My first read-through I had them imagined as kind of glassy, see-through, glowy, rainbow blade, a little like the energy swords from Halo. Though on subsequent read-throughs they mention that the Blades are metallic. Do they just look like regular swords though, aside from the size and shape? What about a normal-sized Blade like Szeth's? Is his only recognizable by his summoning and the way that it kills? Seems like with Shardplate being so distinctive from regular armor, Shardblades should be distinctive too. Also, what part of the Blade is sharp? Just the edge? Obviously the hilt won't cut otherwise it would cut off the wielder's hand, unless Shardblades can't hurt their bearers. But would the back of the Blade cut things? Would the flat of the Blade? Why don't dropped Shardblades (such as when the bearer dies) slice through whatever they touch? At first I thought perhaps you had to be holding a Shardblade in order for you to cut something, but we see Dalinar's Blade cut into rock when he drops it here: There's just a lot about them that we don't know.
  15. Yay! Another Brony found! I've been keeping up with this season and it's been pretty good. Been watching Big Bang Theory quite a bit. I'm excited for the shows on USA to start again, White Collar and Cover Affaris and all of those. Also Merlin Season 4 is premering on Friday in the US and I have actually been good and not looked up the episodes ahead of time. (My friends were rather disapproving when they found out I watched the 3rd season without them.)
  16. Okay, since this thread has somewhat become a shipping thread, I'm going to weigh in again. I'm still all for Shallan/Adolin/Renarin with Shallan/Renarin winning. I'd be okay with some bromance from Adolin and Kaladin, but not much, and certainly nothing romantic. Not much farther than Merlin and Arthur from the BBC show. I have a good feeling that there will be another Kaladin flashback book, remember we haven't seen anything of his days as a slave. I'm pretty sure that's who Tarah was as well - a slave whom he helped to try to escape. It's interesting that her name doesn't ever come up in his guilt list of people who've died because of him. I'd guess that he wanted to stage an escape and she decided to stay behind. Thus he "failed" because he didn't get her out. I don't really like Kaladin/Shallan. As people have said before, I don't think they'd work well together. Kaladin hates lighteyes, Shallan doesn't seem like the type to fall for him. But then, I don't really ship Kaladin with anyone. For one, he doesn't really seem interested, and then there's the fact that I have somewhat of a major crush on Kaladin myself and can't really see him with anyone. Ah, the fangirl strikes again. Hmm, I wonder if Syl can sense Shardblades. She seems to have a feeling about them, but I wonder if she could tell that someone, like say Shallan, was carrying one. That'd be interesting. There's not really evidence for it, but there's also no evidence against it, either. It'd certainly be interesting. Syl finds out, tells Kaladin, all of a sudden, Kaladin has to protect Dalinar from a Shardbearer. THAT'D be a Kaladin/Shallan relationship I'd like to see. I like the idea that Szeth takes the same boat as Shallan and Jasnah. It makes sense, and it'd be interesting. Sounds like a good plot for me. I don't think Dalinar is going to die. People have mentioned that he probably has a book coming up, so that's a point in his favor. I'm also pretty sure he's got a Radiant/Surgebinder plot going on, and I don't really think Brandon would kill him before that got resolved or just after we got a resolution. I don't know how I feel about the next book being Shallan's past. I was kind of hoping for Dalinar's. Honestly, I don't think there's much that would be that interesting in Shallan's past other than her father's murder. Even that shouldn't be that surprising. We've already come up with some pretty tenable scenarios for what happened. Maybe her travels while chasing Jasnah would be included, and that might be interesting, but I still think Dalinar would be much cooler. I'm itching to see hot-headed Blackthorn Dalinar, uniting the Alethi Princedoms and meeting the Parshendi for the first time. The Parshendi and that whole mystery is really fascinating, and I'd love to see more of their culture. I don't think we're going to get that with Shallan. Whew. That was an opinion dump. I really ought to keep up with these threads more closely. It helps that I'm on my third/fourth readthrough (I'm reading aloud to my sister and reading ahead of her on my own at the same time.)
  17. Wait so how are you supposed to say Egwene and Nyneave? I've gone with EG-ween and NIGH-neeve (rhymes with weave). Though I used to pronounce Nyneave as NIN-uh-vay before my mom set me straight.
  18. Aww! Thanks!
  19. Those were the three Jasnah used. Diamond, Ruby (fire, not garnet which is blood), and Smokestone.
  20. So this is the Soulcaster that my mom made for me for Christmas. I worked with her on it, using descriptions from the book, and it's fitted to my hand. I've been wearing it almost nonstop since it was finished!
  21. Okay, so technically, I didn't make this. My mom made it for me for Christmas, but it was too awesome not to share! We worked from descriptions in the book so it's fairly accurate (though after we finished, I found a quote saying that the soulcaster was gold. Oh well.) I hope you like it!
  22. I have a friend who is obsessed with Way of Kings and so I decided to try to write her a ketek for her birthday. She talks about how she constantly imagines if she were on Roshar or if the characters came to our world, so I tried to base it on that. What to you guys think? Adventure stories of words and pages, beyond reality into magic, characters call to her, causing her to call characters' magic into reality, beyond pages and words of stories’ adventures.
  23. I've played Skyrim on and off. I've only been able to get it for a few days from Redbox, and it's always had to go back. I'm totally addicted though. I'm hoping to get it and Assassin's Creed Revelations for Christmas.
  24. I'm with treblkickd and happyman. The point is moot until we have more evidence. Personally I have to say she's 7, though I'll admit I pinned her for 2 the first time I looked at the table without considering the adjacent orders business. There's lots of evidence for either side. I will say I don't really see any way for it to be 5. Jasnah doesn't really fit the attributes in my opinion and her inability to soulcast food very well seems to discredit that theory.
  25. This reminds me a little of the Mythwalker chapters, where female Kkell powers are different from males. But I don't think we've seen enough Surgebinders to determine whether or not gender affects powers. All we have right now are two male Windrunners (one of which has been said to be unconventional) and two female Soulcasters (who are most likely from different orders). Or - random idea - maybe the orders themselves are genders specific. Like it would be impossible for a female to become a Windrunner or a male to become a Soulcaster. I could easily see that estabishing very different gender roles in a society, with something so intrinsic as the development of powers. Ooh, except for ardents, who can step outside the lines through the use of fabrials. That would also establish the idea the ardents are beyond the other gender roles as well! I'm liking this theory more and more!
