  1. Okay, I think I've figured this Harmony/Ruin/Preservation thing out: Ruin can communicate with people who use Hemalurgy, his power. Preservation can communicate with people who use Allomancy, his power. As such, Harmony would be able to communicate with people using either Hemalurgy or Allomancy, as well as possibly having extra communication powers like mind reading. Therefore, Wax probably doesn't need his earring to have Harmony talk to him, because he's already an allomancer. Though, because not everyone who follows the Path is an allomancer, the standard practice is to give them a spike, and make them a hemalurgist. Although, because Wax is using both allomancy and is spiked, perhaps that's why Harmony can read his thoughts; because he's double connected. I don't know.
  2. Wait a second, I totally forgot about Preservation!Kelsier talking to people at the end of HoA. That pretty much proves that Preservation can talk in people's minds too. Though, I don't think he needs a spike to do it. Actually, it may be that he can't talk to those who are spiked. As I remember, all of the times he talks to Spook are post-spike removal and the most significant time he talks to Vin is right after Marsh rips her earring out. So, maybe Ruin's mind-speaking requires a spike, while Preservation's only requires faith or perhaps need. Maybe if the two were combined Saze would get the extra mind reading perk. Like an alloy (haha), you put two metals together and you get something completely new!
  3. Yeah, I knew that Scadrial didn't have a moon, but I was kind of hoping it would get one by the end. Like Sazed got bored and pulled a random meteor into orbit, and this event also had some kind of major plot significance. I mean, Wayne I can understand, but why else would you name your character Wax?
  4. Wow. First, reaction wise, that was AWESOME!! Gah, it's distracting me from my NaNoWriMo and now I don't even want to write my own story because I'm basking in the awesomeness! Whew, this will probably be a long post, but hey there's a lot to react to! Specific things (in no order of importance): Faceless Immortals, definitely kandra. Brandon has said that they serve as messengers of Harmony, and they're immortals who can change their face. Pretty obvious. The story in the Elendel Daily about the woman who was saved by her "dead husband" really confirms it though. The talk of High Imperial cracked me up. Oh, Spook. You're hilarious. I absolutely loved hearing from Sazed again. He's so awesome I squee-ed. Also, seeing Marsh again at the end made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I teared up a bit when he mentioned that Wax was "doing his brother's work." Also, how is Sazed able to read Wax's mind? I know the earring is serving as a hemalurgic spike, but I'm in the middle of reading the end of HoA to my sister, and the one thing that Ruin can't do is read minds. That's something that Vin and Elend keep using against him. So how did Sazed get that power? Is it because he has both shards? But why would that let him read minds? I TOTALLY CALLED MOON SHENANIGANS AND NOTHING HAPPENED!!! Bluh! How in the world was there nothing about a moon in this book?! The two main characters are named Wax and Wayne!! (Waxing and waning, anyone?) There's no way that that's a coincidence, but I couldn't find anything to explain it. Does anyone know who Hoid was in this book? I know I didn't read very thouroughly, but I don't remember the name ever coming up. The Ars Arcanum. Did anyone else read this first? Gah, I'm such a cosmere nerd. I wish we could have seen more of the new feruchemical abilities, like storing nutrition and luck and your sense of self. Those sound really awesome, but we really only got to see new Allomancy in the book through Marasi and Wayne. I totally called that Marasi's "useless" Pulsing would be important. Though I thought she was going to keep Wax alive after he was injured until help arrived. Brandon's version was significantly better. What was the metal symbol on the epilogue? At first I thought it was atium in the new style, but atium only has one ring. Am I just silly and missed it, or is this a new alloy symbol? I am in love with just about everything Wayne says. How is it that Brandon keeps writing all of these unique characters that I continue to love to death. (And, because I've read Homestuck recently, his "romance" with Ranette seems like kismestitude to me!) Wow! That was long! And I didn't even react much to the book itself, mostly just the cosmere stuff. Nerd. Oh well, it was awesome! And I'm hoping for another book in this series! Anyone with me on that?
  5. As soon as possible would be nice, but really anytime within the next month should work.
  6. This probably won't be very interesting for most people, but this seems like the best way to get info out. Basically, I'm in a class called Independent Study and Mentorship, in which students pick a topic of study to research and work with professionals from their chosen field. I have chosen creative writing as my topic and was wondering if there was any way to contact Brandon about possibly interviewing him either over the phone or through email. I sent an email through the website, but I know that he probably gets hundreds of emails a day through there and it would be easy for it to get lost or take months to be read. If you can suggest a more direct way to contact Brandon, that would be highly appreciated!
  7. I'm pretty sure that Aona and Skai being dead during Elantris is a certain thing. I'd check the Brandonothology, but I'm almost positive it's been said right out.
  8. This would be awesome! Is this being chosen randomly?
  9. "It was an awfully long way to go for a bottle of perfume" is the first line for my latest story.
  10. I'd like to announce that I'm finally back! Yay! It's been way too long. I'd also like to announce that I've named my French Horn and Mellophone this year. French Horn (concert horn) is named Soother, and Mellophone (marching band horn) is named Rioter. Though if I decide to use the nicknames "Zinc" and "Brass" it will mean that I have a brass instrument named Brass. Hmm...
  11. I just have to say, I absolutely love your avatar. That is all.

  12. Anyone else addicted to Terraria? I know Eero has it, but has anyone else played?
  13. Well, I don't know how to friend people and I certainly don't know how to make groups or servers or whatnot. And I suck. But I support the idea if someone tells me how! <<--- Noob
  14. So, has anyone on here been plaing TF2? I just started (I suck btw) and now I'm looking for friends who also play. My Steam name is Featherwriter of course.
  15. Okay, I guess this one has been nixed then. Oh, well. It was worth a shot.
  16. ORLY?? *goes to install Steam and TF2* kthxbai!
  17. And some are writing their own lyrics! I've been looking forward to Toby's Literal Trailer Song of this one. It was his Literal AC: Brotherhood trailer that got me into Assassin's Creed in the first place.
  18. Aw. Sad to hear it. I'll probably keep reading them though.
  19. Ow. My brain hurts now. And words no work good when brain no work good.
  20. Well, Rubix, I'm thinking that what made Ruin and Preservation so special was that they both happened to end up on the same planet, so they were able to mix their magic systems a bit. But I see where you're coming from.
  21. I was originally going to post this in Chaos's "A Thought About Feruchemy" topic, but it got too long and too off-topic, so I'm just going to make it a full fledged theory. All the talk of multi-shard magics like Feruchemy and the relationship between Preservation and Ruin got me thinking. Usually dangerous. And all that thinking led to some interesting thoughts. So, because Ruin and Preservation have this special opposites thing going on, when Saze took them, their influences canceled out. I'm going to assume that because Adonalsium was all together, (I mean, the shards weren't even shards then) everything canceled out. Therefore, all the shards' influences must be cancel-able. So, EVERY shard must have an opposite just like Preservation and Ruin. Now, we've said that Endowment doesn't have an opposite. But I'm thinking it's just that Endowment doesn't have an opposite on Nalthis. (Unless she does and that's the plot of Nightblood. That'd be a twist.) But somewhere in the Cosmere, there's a shard which, if held with Endowment would cancel its influence. So we've got 8 (look I can do math!) different shardic pairs, which would probably fit pretty well in Chaos and Kerry's quadrant table if that all works. So, that raises some interesting implications. What would happen if someone took two shards which weren't paired? We know it's possible, because all the shards were together originally. But what would happen if someone held, say, Endowment and Odium? Or something like Cultivation and Ruin? The shard's influences wouldn't cancel out because they aren't opposites, right? So you'd be molded to both shards intentions. Seems like that would be the kind of thing that would drive a person insane. Also, to borrow from the Principle of Intent a little, if a shard has held their shard for too long, they won't be able pick up the opposite shard because they'll already be molded to the intent. So, the only way to avoid the intent warping, is to take both opposing shards at the same time, like Sazed did. And the only way to Re-unite Adonalsium (if this is where it's all headed) is not to pick up each shard individually, but to pick up the pairs. And what would happen if Saze picked up another shard without its opposite? If somehow Saze gets ahold of Honor, he'll get molded to Honor's intent without Honor's opposite to balance it out, but he'll still be holding Preservation and Ruin. So what happens then? Sorry to get all theoretical on you guys, but shardic combos are kinda fascinating to me. What do you think?
  22. Hmm. I'm starting to have a feeling about the Parshendi being voidbringers thing. My Branderson senses are tingling. There's some kind of the evil-mists-are-actually-of-Preservation-and-weren't-actually-originally-evil thing going on here. I'm guessing there's way more here than meets the eye. But then, this is Brandon, so I suppose that's less of a guess and more of a given.
  23. Okay, so I'm not the only one who's been repeat-spamming Iron? Good. I thought I was being a total nerd.
  24. Revising my opinion of Pendragon. Really good for a kids/YA book. I'm really interested. This has revitalized my faith in the YA genre!
  25. I would like to announce that I will be completely MIA the next 5 days because I will be a counselor at a camp!
