  1. That would be soooo amazing. I think I would die.
  2. I think what really got me into trying to write fantasy was actually the game Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. After playing that game, (which is awesome by the way, go get it!) I created my own world, that was half-ripped off from that game. For a while, my friends and I would just kind of play pretend (roleplaying I suppose, though we didn't call it that) and we each had our own characters, races, and classes. After that I tried to write a cliche-fest of a novel set in the world, because I figured if I had all this worldbuilding, why waste it? But by then I was kind of starting to see how derivitive it was and how much work it would take to actually make it work and how not-cool my story was and ooh-look-sparkly-vampires. And that was pretty much the end of that.
  3. That and I love the idea of the "Welcome to the Cosmere" speech he'd have to give the competitors. And introductions would be hilarious. *points to Vin* Don't give her metal. *points to Vasher* Don't touch his sword. *points to Kaladin* If you decide to touch the sword anyway, go see him. Sorry, I'm all in OCT mode. I'm already thinking up a backstory for the competition, NPCs, and in-between matches interaction.
  4. Yeah, I'd give Vasher about a thousand breaths. Remember, if we're worried about heightenings, Vasher can get the Fifth hightening from his Divine breath on his own if he wants. The extra breaths will be there for Awakening purposes. I hate to take atium away from the Mistborn entirely, it's such a cool metal. And I don't think that it would necessarily a deal breaker. A limited amount perhaps? That's always been the way to keep atium from being overpowered in the books. Am I the only one thinking that Hoid should totally be the referee for these matchups?
  5. Is it on the android market? I can't find it! I've got a Samsung Moment and it runs on Android. I've looked, but it just doesn't seem to be there.
  6. Beautiful Things by Gungor and some new songs in French by Edith Piaf, La vie en rose and in particular. That last one might sound familiar to you...
  7. I know that Shardplate and blades are metal, because I remember being surprised when I came across a reference to it in the text, but I'm with Chaos on this, I don't think they're affectable. Maybe if they run out of stormlight? That'd make for an interesting fight. Vin or Kell trying to shatter the plate or crack the gemstones to make the plate affectable.
  8. Hmm. Chronicles of Narnia was definitely my first, (Publication > Chronological!) I read it in Kindergarten, though that was mostly just to be able to say that I had. I discovered Eragon in fourth grade. Soooooo addicted it was not even funny. That was probably the first time I've really gotten into a book. But Eldest was eh, the movie was ehhh-er and I never read Brisngr. Because while I floated on Maximum Ride and the Percy Jackson series. It was something far more terrible that caught my attention. Twilight. I got into the books as they were just starting to gain recognition. The second book had just come out, and not too many people knew about them. My English teacher actually reccomended them. Middle School Girl + Sparkly Vampires + Ooh new, unheard of series = No hope whatsoever. It was a dark time. I quoted the books; I owned two copies so that I didn't have to go without when I loaned them out; I HAD A BLOG OF FANFICTION. Dark times indeed. By the time the first wave of Hype Backlash started to hit, I was so deeply ingrained in the fandom, I fought back. I read other peoples blogs, I stalked the author's page for news, I woke up at 3 AM on a school day to get a ticket to see her. The third book, Eclipse didn't help at all, because I thought it was the epitome of writing at the time. There seemed to be no hope in sight. And then, Wheel of Time. *cue angelic singing* A woman at my church recommended them to me, and I read them just about straight through. When the fourth book came out, it was the kiss of death for that addiction. From Wheel of Time it was a short hop to Brandon, and I haven't gone back. Wow. Sorry for the narritive of my fiction-reading life there. Wall-o-text much?
  9. I vote we give Dalinar his shardblade for a few reasons. First, Sadeas has his cool shardplate-required bow that he can use instead. Secondly, if we got rid of Dalinar's blade, we'd probably have to take his shardplate as well, because he gave that to Renarin. And third, more personally, Sadeas having the shardblade just pisses me off in general. Really Dalinar? "Thank you for being a total jerkface, betraying me, and leaving me and all my men to die, Sadeas. Have the thing you've always wanted." I know, I know. He saved Kaladin with it. But it still ticks me off.
  10. from a sparkly (I couldn't help it. Messing with Rayse is too much fun.)
  11. Maybe there's a reason Odium doesn't seem to have gone after Cultivation yet. She's weakened somehow? Or maybe he already has gone after her.
  12. Use an Aon to help change the flow? Aon Awe anyone?
  13. Brandonothology + Dawnshard - Odium = ??Profit??
  14. Chaos, if you use my theory, I am totally putting a little astrisk next to my Principle of Intent. I am grabbing whatever credit I can. Though I'll probably have to change from "Theory Leader" to something less exclusive.
  15. splinters. "Where is
  16. Wait, has anyone theorized that the bonding-spren are the Dawnshards? Because they definitely bind people.
  17. Chaos, I'm going to demand Kaladin! His spear abilities make him a different fighter than Szeth and he definitely deserves a place. If we're worried about him being overwhelmed by more powerful characters, why don't we let the rest of Bridge Four and Syl tag along? (random tangent: do you think Bridge Four will still be called Bridge Four even though they're not bridgemen anymore?) I don't know about Sadeas. First of all, when in cannon is the match happening? More specifically, who has Dalinar's shardblade, Sadeas or Dalinar? And he doesn't really seem like a cage match fighter. Though, it would be interesting to see him show up and totally own someone because he's come up with some brilliant Magnificent Bastard plan.
  18. I'm with Zayde on this one. I absolutely adored the first one when I read it. It was probably my first real book obsession. I was in elementary school and me and my friends used to act out scenes on the playground during recess. Then Eldest was ehhh. And the movie was really ehhhh. I never brought myself to read Brisingr. I might pick it up if I really run out of books, but I think I'd rather start a third readthrough of WoK than try to push through a book that I've not really heard good things about.
  19. I assumed that the "Dark Gods" mentioned in reference to the Shardblades were monsters like the Midnight Essence that Dalinar saw in his highstorm vision. There's something fundamentally different about the Heralds' blades and shardblades.
  20. To get this topic back on board a bit, since we seem to have WikiWalked our way to TvTropes: Is anyone else super pumped about Portal 2? I totally though it was coming out April 8th and was crushed when I found out this wasn't true. Also, I've been playing The Sims Medieval. It's fairly addicting of its own volition (especially since I decided to create the entire Merlin cast). [/fangirlness]
  21. to fuel Dahkor's Yay, Hyperbole and a Half! I love that blog! Upvotes for you!
  22. Hooray for polygamy! Polygamy and Awesome Points!
  23. Yeah, I can link instead: Here goes
  24. So Puck, does this mean that you just routinely go after all of Chaos's wives and marry them all after he does?
