Except we have no basis for suspicion usually first cycle, and an insanely high chance of lynching someone potentially useful (since those roles should currently far outnumber the 17th Shard members). Discussion is key, but a lynch is not, and is dangerous in this type of game.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
It's 2:15AM and I can't sleep because I'm terrified of my doctors appointment today (at 10AM, so I'm definitely not getting enough sleep). That's because I'm getting shot in the head a bunch of times. Or, getting a bunch of shots in my head. Same thing. The shots are Botox for my constant headache I've mentioned here several times, and I've had bad experiences with shots before (nerve blocks and even acupuncture have been extremely painful). I wouldn't do these if anyone had any other options for me, but this is basically a last ditch effort. I don't know what will be available after this, beyond less mainstream and less legal options (marijuana has been brought up many times, but hasn't been legalized here just yet). Edit: And the chulls at the doctors office neglected to inform us that they never received the Botox itself, so we showed up and were told there's nothing they could do but reschedule us. -
Shallan mentions several times that the Alethi are "freakishly tall". I think Brandon was just further emphasizing that difference.

It strikes me as similar to LG28 in that respect, and I argued for no Day 1 lynch there for basically the same reason. Since this game is going to have a lot of conversions from one faction to another from my reading of the rules, a Day 1 lynch seems like it's more likely to hurt than help.

I wonder if we've been steered a bit wrong by the unusual circumstances of Scadrial (created by two Shards who are also now weakened in specific ways) and Roshar (where the Oathpact binds at least Odium, probably Honor, pre-splintering, and Cultivation to the system). Shards that simply Invest in an existing system without unusual arrangements in place are probably more free. Endowment could probably be more active in the rest of the Cosmere (and might be), and so could most of the other surviving Shards.

I find it a little in bad taste to reveal publicly where other players are, in addition to yourself. I won't reveal who is with me, though I'm on First of the Sun.

Oh yeah, poke votes annoy me, but I would like to summon people and get their opening thoughts. @Assassin in Burgundy and @Doc12, what are your plans, thoughts, etc, that you will be willing to share?

Quintus relaxed near the beach in the sun. Most of his work had been indoors for many years, so it was nice to experience some open air. Of course, he'd had a lot of open air here. First of the Sun wasn't the most hospitable of planets under any circumstances, and worldhopping there was a risky endeavor most of the time. Even though the task had been greatly simplified over time, he still had a tough time convincing himself to actually drop down through that perpendicularity. Once he'd arrived and set up shop, though, he'd had a nice time. He was studying some of the ancient languages of the people that lived here, hunting for references to other magics, or even their own Aviar and god-islands, continuing his life's work of cataloging and trying to classify things related to magic no one else had cared to. At the moment, however, he was simply enjoying the calm before the storm that he knew was coming. One of his friends had found him only moments before to relay the news from a Silverlight. His old master was back. Quintus hadn't expected Hoid to disappear forever, though he'd made a concerted effort apparently. It had been a very long time since Quintus had seen him, since their falling out. Hoid could hold a grudge better than most, though Quintus doubted he harbored any ill will towards him; their disagreement had been scholarly, about the methods and subjects, with neither being worried about interference from the other, except by chance. Of course, with Hoid, Chance was a subject one could toss out the window, or dedicate eons of study to, but could certainly never count on. Seemed he wasn't likely to get left out of his old Master's plans this time, or at least their aftermath.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!

I'll trade. It's 10:30PM here and 71F outside (about 28C). I never expect it to be particularly cold, but this is turning out to be a hot week overall. It sucks. -
Problem is that was cleanly set up as being a softball question. He didn't have to RAFO it, it left him tons of wiggle room.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Jondesu replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Snow is a pipe dream here in Orlando. I think we actually had a few flakes fall once, but of course they didn't actually make it to the ground. -
Wow, I don't think any of those are how I imagine the characters, though those choices for Vivenna and Siri are pretty cool. Interesting to see such difference (and I see Vasher looking ~30, so Sean Bean seems much too old).
-
Yay, I'm not evil anymore. I'm an artist, albeit one despised by some.
-
With the entire Cosmere optioned for movies, I've seen threads talking about who should play the Mistborn characters, the Stormlight characters, but not Warbreaker, which may have the most potential as a movie. Most importantly, who should voice Nightblood? That's almost as important as deciding who should be the voice of Stick. Just some quick thoughts: Susebron: Brandon Routh (mostly for looks, plus he'll be better as an actor if he's not talking). Siri: Daisy Ridley Vivenna: Katie McGrath Denth: Simon Baker Tonk Fah: Adam Baldwin Vasher: Jason Statham. Kidding. Not sure yet. Lightsong: Dunno. Would need to pull of glib and cheerfully willfully ignorant, while still looking godlike and amazing. Llarimar: Sean Maher (with a little extra weight of course). Blushweaver: Morena Baccarin Bluefingers: John Cleese Treledees: Clark Gregg King Dedelin: Anthony Head And the voice of Nightblood? Alan Tudyk. (Originally I had Jim Parsons here, but he can be Stick in SA.) I know I've left out plenty of characters, but I like most of these.

True, compounding seems likely, so that makes spikes or some other method probably necessary (a master metalmind set up by Kelsier might do the trick, though).
-
Pretty sure there's a WoB (WoP?) that he didn't give any specific instructions to the artist who did the map, so that isn't Bavadin. Would have been cool, though.
-
The medallions are Feruchemical metalminds, rather than Allomantic metals (no one has to ingest metals to use them). Allik references the Firemothers and Firefathers (IIRC), who I expect are Bronze Brass Ferrings (either naturally or via Hemalurgy, or possibly even just by passing a master medallion of some type to each one). I would guess they spend most of their time filling the bronze brass portions of the medallions that grant heat, and in return are fed and sheltered and probably paid homage by the southerners. I believe we see a cube use a Feruchemical power, but that part I'm not sure on. I know the Ettmetal devices powering the ships do, though, since they store weight (Feruchemical Iron, I believe it is).
-
Oh, agreed, that map is of the Cognitive Realm around Roshar. Shadesmar isn't just that map, though.
-
Actually, Shadesmar is just the Rosharan term for the Cognitive Realm. Khriss uses it to refer to the Cognitive Realm in at least one place not referring to Roshar at all, so she's adopted the term it seems. You weren't really wrong in the first place.
-
My bet is that Odium Invested in both Braize and Roshar (no reason he couldn't have, right?), but that one of those was unintentional. Honor trapped him in the system somehow, and since he's stuck there in proximity to both planets, his Investiture has seeped into them and more firmly trapped him. As for Cultivation, I can definitely see her allowing Honor to be splintered if it was part of a long-term plan, and possibly even see her being responsible for the survival of Tanavast's Cognitive Shadow, merging with the Stormfather. We know she's probably Invested the Highstorms (they existed before the Shards arrived, but the incredible properties of the crem seems to me like the work of Cultivation, so I think she probably enhanced that part of the storm), so maybe that would have helped her. She's probably being very cautious now when it comes to Odium because she knows she's top on his hit list now, since he wants to escape, but I suspect she's not fighting Odium in a direct way, but in an indirect way, bringing about plans to see the Radiants defeat Odium; or if there's another way, perhaps to simply let him escape so she gets some breathing room. I don't agree with some people that she's behind The Diagram, despite it seeming to stem from T's visit to the Nightwatcher, but it's possible that's one of her plans.
-
@AngelEy3, I've only read Wheel of Time of those three, but I loved it. Congrats on finishing up the Cosmere books mostly! I'll warn you since I just got it, the White Sand graphic novel (if that's what you're reading) feels very incomplete. For those who have read it, is it just volume 1 with more to come, or is that how the story goes?
-
There's a quote button in the post editor, with ". The spoiler button (an eye) is next to it. You can also do [ quote] and [ /quote], just remove the extra space.
-
I also thought of Adolnasium originally, but since we know Adolnasium was shattered rather than willingly splitting, I think Bavadin/Autonomy may fit better. There could be some mixing of stories since that would be an old story if so.
-
My point is that the Letter doesn't say Odium and Autonomy. They're not the same as their Vessels, and it could be important for that question.
