Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
That sounds awful. My headaches are fortunately not cluster headaches; they're lower intensity but permanently ongoing. I don't know that either is better or worse, since mine have also driven me to the edge of suicide like that article speaks of, but I sure wouldn't laugh at or dismiss anyone talking about bad headaches. jW -
I just searched for it: It's somewhat unclear, but it reads to me like the Stormfather wants to just wipe away humanity and act like nothing is wrong, basically. jW

Yep, I remember both of those things too. I think the size changing may have been when Kaladin wore the gauntlet in the duel, or maybe Adolin when he wore Dalinar's plate? Syl also definitely was a shield, albeit briefly (she turned into a spear or sword right after to strike back). It strikes me as likely that the Shardplate could indeed be shaped to the desires and needs of the Radiant, including spikes or other changes as suggested. jW

I thought he just amplified them, and caused the nightmares and excessive fears, along with the darkness. jW

Nice! I'm curious too, would you or Trizee say you believe in a young earth, like Haelbarde was asking? I do myself, and I think there's a number of very good explanations for why scientists may be misinterpreting a lot of data that seems to indicate an older earth and universe. jW

He brought the highstorm early, the one that clashed with the Everstorm, because he believed it would be best to destroy men. Syl says that directly (don't have the quote right now since I'm on my phone). I don't know if he was of that mindset then as well, but it doesn't seem unlikely. jW

My impression is that yes, they still have them, but they don't totally negate their powers anymore, just weaken them. I don't know that it's spelled out clearly enough to be sure, but Megan still showed signs of at least thinking she would be affected by fire if I remember correctly. jW

He plays with words more than an Aes Sedai. Absolutely I believe he messes with us, without actually lying about anything (except maybe occasionally by accident due to exhaustion or misunderstanding, since he's still mostly human, after all). jW

I have always assumed that one of those was the Stormfather (Rider of the Storms), though that may not be true. The other being Re-Shephir makes sense to me, and while others have asked why the Stormfather would be leading her, keep in mind he was well and truly broken, ready to end humanity because of his pain, and to save his "children". This could have been part of his plan at the time. jW

True. Poetic usage could result in thinking of it as a longer timeframe, but not a direct reading of the word itself. Edit: I've actually never met anyone who was an Orthodox Jew, I don't think, just some very liberal and barely religious ones (by their own admission). Nice to meet you (in the online sense)! jW

[Secret History Spoilers] Why the 17th Shard wants Hoid
Jondesu replied to KnightGradient's topic in Mistborn
Good quotes, thanks. That first one in particular answered my question about whether Yolen is the planet that's hidden. jW -
It actually wasn't the existence of magic holding this back. The Lord Ruler intentionally held back progress during his reign, and even with the developments since, there are things they just haven't been able to figure out again yet, due to the odd mix created by TLR designs and the culture they came from. jW

[Secret History Spoilers] Why the 17th Shard wants Hoid
Jondesu replied to KnightGradient's topic in Mistborn
I'm curious… have we received confirmation that Yolen is indeed the hidden, shrouded world? I know that's the popular belief, and if it's been confirmed, great, but what if that's not Yolen? What if it's where Adonasium is originally from, instead, and was the true original homeworld of of humanity and the other species in the Cosmere? jW -
And this is why I should read slower, since that didn't come across initially the way you meant it. :-P I agree, Vantablack is a great image to have in mind for Nightblood. It's almost sucking in all the light around it. jW

Every island is Roshar is atop a dead Tai-na
Jondesu replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
Thanks (that link doesn't actually work, but with the full quote, Google found it for me). As noted, though, there are still tides as discussed in the books, whether they're caused by the moon (which could easily be the case even with small moons, if they're closer or if there is something about their makeup that would affect the oceans) or something else, so erosion would still be an issue, even without the high storms adding to that. The chances of every island being a dead Tai-na instead of just being, you know, islands, seems far-fetched to me. jW -
Every island is Roshar is atop a dead Tai-na
Jondesu replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's never stated in the books, since they don't know. It's certainly not common knowledge around here that the moons are about the same size as Pluto's moon either, so what's your source? jW -

I checked the dictionary on my phone and it says "Someone who bleeds easily, such as a hemophiliac". I'd be surprised if that was the meaning Brandon was going for, though the other option was a baseball term, which is even less likely I would bet. Actually... "A ground ball that barely passed between two infielders" has interesting connotations here. jW

The three moons of roshar are giant gem stones
Jondesu replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
I assume you're being sarcastic, Bryce, considering the number of minute details that ended up being major plot points in, well, just about all of his books. You're new here though, so I can't be sure. I do suspect there's at least some connection to gemstones, even if the moons aren't made of them, and to the highstorms. My guess is that they influence the highstorms not through orbital mechanics or whatever, but from an Investiture standpoint. Somehow that storm gets filled to the brim with Stormlight, and I have to wonder if there's more to it than the Origin (which I don't know if we even have confirmed to exist). jW -
I'd heard that, but I'm actually hoping that will be a minor role overall. We'll see. jW

Hoid with the bead of Lerasium (Spoilers)
Jondesu replied to FlailingMunchies's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Brandon's statement, while hedging, indicates that might not be the case, though. That's part of our current evidence that must be considered.Edit: You forgot hemalurgy, btw, though I think it's safe to say Hoid didn't use that (there may even be a WoB, not completely sure). jW -
Every island is Roshar is atop a dead Tai-na
Jondesu replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
They could be more remnants of a similar cataclysm to the one that shattered the Shattered Plains. If it was an area closer to the sea already, and was broken up, instead of chasms, you'd get islands, and over time the gaps could erode further. jW -
I've got "Love Alone Is Worth the Fight" from Switchfoot's latest album stuck in my head right now, though I'm not technically listening to it at the moment. Good stuff (and a message I know I need to hear, even though I want to just give up or give in). jW

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Granted. It's enchanted so you can only open a side pocket filled with nothing but chull droppings. I wish I could go to sleep right now. -
Who else is looking forward to a Star Wars movie with little to no Force-users, just a black ops style infiltration? I'm very intrigued, especially considering how much I loved the X-Wing series, which similarly didn't have a ton to do with Jedi and the Force. jW
