  1. Gotcha, never would have come to mind in that context. jW
  2. It's apparently more obscure to me. What would 6 and 7 reference? (The question leaped to mind immediately to me, with the realization then that the numbers were wrong for that.) jW
  3. This might be a stretch to call it part of a bad day, but I replied to a friend on Facebook about a political issue, and no matter how nice and humble I tried to be, I'm worried they'll get angry. They responded once and seemed passionate but not angry, but they haven't replied to me response to that, and I'm paranoid. I don't even want to check Facebook, but I also can't resist. So nerve wracking. It's someone I knew when she was younger (I'm nearly a decade older), and she moved away so we're not close friends or anything, but I've also known her longer than most other friends I have, so I don't want this to affect our friendship. I wish I'd never replied in the first place, which was my initial instinct. jW
  4. Oh, I'm familiar with the existing art and love it. I just couldn't remember if that part was specified by Zahn or was artistic renderings. jW
  5. Once you spike someone, they generally die, which would effectively make them unable to perform Hemalurgy. :-P Of course, this is the Cosmere, where death isn't always permanent, so still an interesting question. jW
  6. Ah, gotcha. Yeah, Clone Wars had a lot of that feel. I thought I remembered Thrawn having pupils, though I do with they glowed a bit at least. I love the look of the eyes even if they're not exactly as Zahn described, though. I wonder if Timothy Zahn has been brought in as a consultant or something? Which makes me wonder if his other super popular character might make it into the new canon as well? Yes, I want Mara Jade, and not just in the show, but I want her to be in Episodes VIII and/or IX. Edit: They didn't show him, but I wonder if Pellaeon will be there as Thrawn's second in command? I love his character too, plus he was a great way to showcase Thrawn's genius by having him mentoring Pellaeon. The way he was talking about understanding culture and art sounded like he was talking to someone, and I hope that was Pellaeon instead of Tarkin or someone else. Also, *fingers crossed*, Noghri? Edit 2: Apparently Zahn will be writing a new book called Thrawn, which will be canon as well. jW
  7. I assume you mean George Lucas by GL? Haven't heard that term, but if so, isn't he completely uninvolved now? Edit: As for Thrawn, it looks to me like they're going to nail his passion for understanding culture and art, too. I hope they don't gimp his tactical genius in any way. I want to see him totally devastate at least one battle, effortlessly and almost like he could see into the future...and then turn around and explain his logic as if it was obvious (but not condescendingly). jW
  8. I didn't want to create a new topic for a show like this, so forgive the necro. The season 3 trailer has been posted, which was interesting but nothing new… until the new commander of the Imperial forces against the Rebellion is revealed. That's right, Grand Admiral Thrawn is officially canon again! I can't even begin to express how awesome that is! He's by far my favorite character in the EU, and I was nearly devastated to realize that the new Legends categorization would make him no longer officially canon, so having him once again included (and by extension, the Timothy Zahn books made at least much closer to canon as well) is ridiculously awesome. Trailer: jW
  9. A lofty goal. How are each of those? I've read all of WoT and ASOIAF, but I couldn't get into the Discworld series and haven't looked at the other two yet. jW
  10. I've seen a lot of people disparage what Teft says as being uninformed, but I think he was spot on with that one. Kaladin has a innate talent for the spear, almost (but not quite) supernatural without the Nahel Bond and Stormlight, but then when you add those, it does more than just provide the added dexterity, strength, etc; it brings him closer to the embodiment of the Ideal spearman (perhaps other weapons, but he certainly didn't seem quite as comfortable with Syl as a sword). Hauka also probably has good instincts and is good at reading people as well as learning/memorizing laws and codes; if she is a proto-Skybreaker, that bond may be enhancing and nearly perfecting those abilities, leading to that ability of the Skybreakers. I don't even know if I'd count those as "boons" like people have hypothesized, but maybe simply some of the characteristics that attract the spren in the first place, and therefore strengthened by the bond. jW
  11. I haven't looked into it, but does that really count as mania? I remember when I made the decision not to kill myself; it unlocked something allowing me to be more free, and I definitely made some big changes following that, but I wouldn't have called it mania. Kaladin's actions seem more like a man who just decided he had a purpose, rather than mania specifically. I'm not sure if that may just fall under that definition, however. jW
  12. I would actually take it from a different perspective, supporting the same conclusion: Szeth owned the winds, a trespasser and unworthy one, but he was the only one who could master the skies (so far as people were aware). Kaladin has claimed them for his own, and defeated Szeth completely. Szeth no longer owns the winds. jW
  13. I dunno, he's done the Everstorm meets Highstorm already. I don't see that as being a final confrontation unless there's something about them we don't know yet. jW
  14. That...makes a ton of sense, actually. Have an upvote. jW
  15. Not a professional, but a sufferer. I have what's classified as Major Depression (which is the term @tennischamp5 used), but as Moderate to Severe Depression. The two refer to different things: major depressive disorder indicates how long you're depressed, and the fact that you don't have big mood swings, but instead long periods of depression, in between which you're simply back to more normal. It's sometimes called unipolar depression, though that's a rare term, but it denotes that it differs from bipolar depression by not having a swing back to the opposite end of the spectrum. jW
  16. It's safer than many places simply because they didn't bring any Parshmen, so even if the storm hits, they won't have that aftermath. jW
  17. Oh, I would bet it's not a conscious desire. And I don't think he actually wants a relationship. He's just...annoyed that they can be so happy and he can't, while still not really wanting to be happy, in a way. I've been in his shoes the way I read it, so that's why I read it that way I'm sure. jW
  18. I had to go look up that passage to confirm how it's worded: Yeah, I agree, there's something there, but I think it's less romantic attraction and just… jealousy of a sort. He thinks she's pretty, sure, but I think it's more of a wish for something like that for himself. That's just my personal take on that, of course, though, not supported by anything in the text specifically, so you could take it another way equally reasonably. jW
  19. It certainly sinks into the rock when it finally hits, showing that it does cut somewhat. I don't think it cut all the way through, though I can't remember how it's described. jW
  20. I'll add that in rereading the particular moment people have quoted about Kaladin seeing Shallan as the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen: Brandon chose to word it as "It was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen." It, as in the smile, or I think the act of smiling through the pain, rather than Shallan herself. It's the moment when he stops seeing her as a frivolous lighteyes, sure. I don't think it's a moment of discovering a romantic attraction, however. jW
  21. @Sunbird, there's more too. There's an episode with a fake TV show involved, and in addition to some distinct similarities (albeit with huge differences too), Castle says something along the lines of, "The best TV show ever created. So, of course, cancelled." I believe he called something shiny at least once (that happened on Chuck, too, in reference to John Casey's car), and I think there were some other references when Adam Baldwin was on Castle too. jW
  22. I picked up LEGO Marvel Superheroes about 10 days ago. Have played 75 hours on it in that time, and just today 100% completed it (no small task if you're familiar with the LEGO games), as well as hit all of the Steam Achievements for it. :-D jW
  23. It was early on, but my favorite (well, second, behind him actually dressing up as Mal), was the Hands of Blue reference. It's subtle, but the first time he ever wears blue latex gloves in the series, he holds up two fingers on one hand, then the other, looking back and forth between them. It's a reference to the "Two by two, hands of blue" line that River says about them in Firefly. :-) jW
  24. I'm sure, but it wasn't as treasured then, since there were far fewer Allomancers, and maybe no Mistborn at all (we don't really know for sure, but Alendi was just a Seeker). I bet it wasn't being mined at the time, if it worked anything like it did in the Pits of Hathsin, since no one would need to force people through that type of torture to get a metal that didn't do anyone any good. The advent of Mistborn, or at least them becoming common-ish, would have made Atium into a valuable metal, allowing TLR's scheme to make Ruin think it was available whenever he needed it, while actually keeping it hidden from him. jW
