  1. Can they even go Beyond, or are they instantly ripped apart first? He's implied that in the past, but not after the idea of the Beyond had really been introduced, so it may only apply to travel via the Pool instead of the Cognitive Aspect heading to the Beyond after death. jW
  2. They do require the metals. The medallion grants the ability, then the metals provide the access to the actual Allomancy. We see that with Marasi and Wax both, IIRC (though I may be mixing that up with the Bands, but they use the same principle). jW
  3. I love Trader Joe's, though we have a tendency to spend way too much there. Aldi's far better for actually really cheap prices, though (just a very specific selection, rarely two brands of the same thing). jW
  4. Fair enough, but yeah, Majesty seems to fit better. I think you're right on the Shardic attributes, not only coming from RL ones, but specifically the Jewish/Christian God (with emphasis on the Jewish traditions, I think). Dominion, I believe, is more related to the idea of Adam and Eve being given dominion over the earth, for instance, than the idea of dominating a people or nation. jW
  5. I'll note that this has been discussed before, and guns and coins wouldn't do much against Shardplate, except perhaps with extremely well aimed coordinated fire. IIRC, Brandon and/or Isaac has even confirmed that a bullet wouldn't do much more than cause small cracks, and coins would likely impart even less damage. The speed and agility granted by Shardplate would make that even less likely to work, too. Not sure about the Aon Daa blast, though, that may have an extremely effective impact, or it might be somewhat counteracted by the Shardplate (since it's also invested). Perhaps Living Shardplate would be better at resisting it than Dead Shardplate, though as yet we don't really know. jW
  6. Sucks to be an Envisager. I don't really want to commit suicide by idiocy. jW
  7. Xenocide was amazing. However, better than Ender's Game itself? Umm, nope. Better than Speaker for the Dead I can agree with, though. jW
  8. That's an interesting theory! Kingship as a name doesn't fit with the other Shards, but perhaps… Leadership, or something of that ilk? Even that doesn't quite fit, but I like the way you're going with that. Have an upvote! jW
  9. Considering Brandon has confirmed that Frost is not a worldhopper, I would find that very unlikely. It's not impossible, of course (Sazed hasn't left Scadrial as far as we know), but it would be odd considering the Shard involved, and suspicions that the said Shard may not be on a planet at all. jW
  10. Ketchup. (And no, @Magestar, they don't sell anything like a burger. :-P)
  11. Okay, I didn't see it yet, though obviously I didn't read all 14 pages here, but what's the best way to get into a game? Keep watching for a new one to be posted, or is there a wait list of sorts? jW
  12. Viruses
  13. Wait, that's what that is? I hadn't looked into it, honestly. Never mind this thread, then! jW
  14. If you're familiar with the party game "Mafia", I'd like to propose an online adaptation here in a thread. I can moderate the first game, then we can pass the mantle if more games are played. If you're not familiar with the game, here's the basic concepts. All of the players are part of a fictional town, in which the Mafia has gained a foothold. Each player is assigned a role, either Mafia, Cop, or Townsperson (and there are specializations for each that can be included if desired). Each round of play consists of two parts: Phase 1: Night. During the night phase, the Mafia players choose a single person to eliminate, done secretly. In a party, this would be accomplished by having everyone close their eyes, and then the Mafia only opens their eyes and use hand signals to choose a victim. Here, that will be much more efficiently handle via private message. Also during the night, the Cop or Cops will select an individual to investigate. They will then be told by the moderator if that person is Mafia or innocent. They will need to be judicious about revealing that information later on, during the day round, however. Many games include a Doctor or Nurse, who can choose one person to visit that night. If that person is attacked by the Mafia, the Doctor/Nurse would then have saved their life. Phase 2: Day Driven to extreme measures by the Mafia's wanton killing spree, the townspeople organize a lynch mob each day, and select a victim to string up. This is accomplished by a simple majority vote, albeit with opportunities to explain your rationale in accusing someone, as well as offering a defense. During this time, the Cops can choose to reveal their identities and results of their investigations, but at the cost of essentially painting a target on their backs. Alternatively, someone could lie about being a Cop in order to lay a false trail. Revealing your card (used in the party version), or in this case sharing a screenshot or quote of the message revealing your role, is not allowed; that proof can only be revealed on your death or at the end of the game, depending on the rules used. The goal of the game is simple: eliminate the opposing team. If all of the Mafia players are lynched, the town wins. If the Mafia outnumber the town, they win (usually the Mafia players are about a third of the total group at most to start, so they need to successfully eliminate a fair number of players to win). If there is enough interest, say 10 or more players, I'll begin a game soon. Each day and night phase would be roughly timed, probably lasting a day or two to allow time for participation, and longer when a weekend may interfere. We can nail down the timing as we go. Let me know if you're interested! jW
  15. I know those are old posts, but I just did a search for Christmas in this thread, and I'm loving that album so far! Any other Christmas albums anyone is listening to, or other holidays? I have Adam Sandler's Hanukah Song, but not really any serious songs for other holidays. jW
  16. The name of that show keeps reminding me of Alcatraz (which I didn't even enjoy reading). Haven't tried it yet, though. jW
  17. Okay is a relative term, but yeah, that passed. Thanks. jW
  18. Yeah, the credit system is bonkers. Not using the credit lines you have open? We don't like that. Don't have open far more than you should ever need? Don't like that either. For my day: Most people find a child's laughter to be a very pleasant sound. Those that don't find it irritating or annoying. Today, my son's laughter caused me intense physical pain. I had to retreat to the bedroom because my head felt like it was swelling up and about to burst (you can look through my other posts here if you want to know more about that headache). Noise isn't usually a trigger; I actually listen to loud music sometimes to relieve or at least distract from the pain, but that laughter was just impossible to handle. And it's my four year old son. jW
  19. Exactly, instead of having most of the order kill their spren but have some survive, I'm suggesting they pretended to, but didn't actually. I have no idea how possible it would be to have the glowing stop, but I can't imagine it'd be impossible. jW
  20. Wait a second, I just thought of something. One of the orders we see at Feverstone Keep was the Stonewards, right? What if the subterfuge was that they faked their part in the Recreance. Could they simply have left their plate and blades, but not actually broken their vows, and later just had their spren leave whoever claimed the blades and return to them? There would have been so much confusion, the people who had claimed those would probably just think they had been stolen. That would be a great amount of subterfuge, and would allow for the Stonewards to still be the origins of the Stone Shamans. In fact, even if another order was more likely, they could have accomplished it the same way, and no one would have known. jW
  21. Just got KOTOR 2, was on sale. Pretty good so far. jW
  22. Not that I've seen. I did just realize from that, though, that it's possible that the Dawnsingers were the Parshendi or their ancestors. jW
  23. It's at least assumed they were created by Adolnasium, or else weren't created by a Shard or anything similar. We have a WoB that they predate Honor and Cultivation's arrival on Roshar, which also predate Odium's arrival. jW
  24. I don't recall if she did indeed say that exactly, but Syl can be wrong. *gasp* Brandon has dodged the question, but he's said that "people on Roshar would say Parshendi couldn't be Radiants" (paraphrased). That doesn't mean they can't be, just that they weren't in the past or at least no one knew it or believed it to be possible. jW
  25. Maybe the Stick isn't actually a stick? Plot Twist: It's a worldhopper disguising itself as a stick, which is why it so emphatically repeated "I Am A Stick"… it needed to maintain it's cover. "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain." jW
