  1. @WhiteLeeopard Lirin was more connected with Kaladin, he was his apprentice, the stolen broms were for his studies. And I feel there will be more than one conflict between father and son - one here, one with Dalinar and Renarin. Lirin perhaps expects Kaladin to follow him anew as a surgeon, Dalinar wants Renarin as a fighting Radiant like Kaladin
  2. Kaladin doesn't have to summon a shardblade, he has to call for Syl. She can show herself as a blade, but also as a Shardspear, a Shardfork or even as herself. He must control the situation after the punch and to bring forth a writ without danger for anyone there should be a pause.
  3. Only a few quick thoughts: What oaths had Navani broken before? I think the death of shshsh as a hostage and Dalinar full of hate and Thrill is connected with what had happened in Rathalas. SomeTHING with Lirin and Hasina? Syl isn't much afraid of the new storm and the consequences. No Stormform or something like that, no Parshmen had attacked. I think - like Gavilar had planned - 'an old ancient spren' had the Parshmen transformed back into Listener. And I like/love the reunion of Kaladin's family.
  4. What rubs me wrong in the second chapter is that Dalinar tries to make up Urithiru as an enclave of Alethkar. This is perhaps acceptable in this interim time, but if he really wants to rebuilt the Knight Radiants, he will have to overcome the social rules of Alethkar or any other country. As deeply as he is rooted in this rules, he can't let them be a part in Urithiru - with time we don't need Highprinces of whatever who aren't even Radiants. He will have to accept fighting women without safehand, reading men, a lowly streeturchin as an equal to himself. And as a Bondsmith he will have to make it sure, that every Radiant will also accept these things - there won't be a differance between Brighteyes or Darkeyes. I think this can be the way to unite Roshar - if he is able to build up a group of people who stop to see themselves as Alethi, Azish, Shin or whatelse, who don't transfer the quarrels of the 'outerworld' into the Radiants, this will spread with time over Roshar and will really unite them. I only hope there will be enough time....
  5. "I was always a tyrant..." That's exactly why I don't think he is really aware of his past. With only the first flashback we see him as a useful weapon of a tyrant, he himself isn't fighting for the goal of Gavilar, not even a goal of his own. He's fighting to get his 'fix', for a new dose of the Thrill. And not to feel better but to feel anything at all. Without the Thrill he is barely able to function as a human being - be it good or bad. He needs it, because of a 'pit' inside of him, a huge crack, has to be filled with something, otherwise he is a shell of a man.
  6. Something - the new WoB about how Gavilar has become a Highprince - tells me Adolin new clothes can be green and white.
  7. The thing is the Kholin - conspirators would probably have succeded in legaly killing Sadeas, IF Kaladin hadn't interfered. The goal of this right to duel was to get rid of Sadeas and IIRC Adolin is still holding this right. Adolin has a problem, but as I see it it's more that he over-idiolizes his father and really - even with only one of the flashbacks - Dalinar would have done the same with lesser reasons at this age. And IIRC - wasn't Sadeas planing to kill not only Dalinar but also Elhokar trying to become king himself? I hope Aladar is really a good Highprince of Informations
  8. Perhaps there is another Radiant nearby Lopen we haven't recognized yet.
  9. Without the context the obvious answer for something " brilliant, golden, but terrible, bathing everything in heat" would be the sun. This connect also with the Unmade seen as shadows. Aren't the Shin worshiping the sun?
  10. My problem is I can't see Gavilar as a great king, only as a great warlord. He has undoubtly reached his goal - Alethkar is (more or less) united after a period of war. But now he has no idea how to consolidate this without war, how to make a real kingdom out of this premise. There is more to a king than war - new laws, building a new society, making new bonds first in Alethkar and than with other countries. All i all - he isn't Bondsmith material.
  11. A little bit for clarity: @Toaster Retribution With "new king" I was talking about Taravangian, the actual 'new' king. To Elhokar It's his wife making a mess in Kholinar, so I think it's his plight to act. Overall I want to know their son. On a sidenote Question about Sanderson's opinion (Leipzig, book fair): A.: I think Elhokar is maligned by a lot of people. He was put in a hard situation, inheriting from a great king and having a really domineering uncle. He's a little arrogant, a little full of himself, but that's natural in his position. And I'm very fond of him.
  12. I'll try to find some coherent things: -In the last part of WoR we get some places of interest: Kholinar, Jah Keved, Azir and the Purelake - all are mentioned, partly as a reaction to Dalinar's warning. I think our new Radiants will go there seperatly to unite them. -Kholinar: Kaladin is allready on his way, but this is the time and the place Elhokar has to go. And Kaladin will teach him to lead, because of Tien. -Jah Keved: A new king, who better than Dalinar himself? (And I really want him to go to the man who wants to kill him). Perhaps with Shallan to look for her family. -Azir: Adolin, to get him out of Alethkar and to Lift. -Purelake: Since there is a plague, someone with the ability to heal - Renarin -Jasnah: The moment she gets her full mental capacity back, she'll try to chain herself to Hoid / AKA: The Man with ANSWERS.I think also an atheist can't withstand someone who speaks about "god" as an old buddy. -The Everstorm will do exactly what Gavilar had planed - it/he will bring back the ability to transform for the Parshmen. -In Urithiru Shallan will locate the places of the unknown Oathgates, especially Akinah. It's not that much, but I try ...
  13. Perhaps I am able to help... Book fair, Leipzig, March 2017 Question about the visions from Dalinar in comparition to Gavilar: A: He did see the same visions. They were the same thing. But...I will say that his reactions to them were very different from Dalinar's reaction to them. Possibilities: IIRC was 'Starfalls' the 12. vision and the first was partly the same as the last in WoK. We don't know all of the visions. An Herald - doesn't Amaram talk about Nalan in his letter to Restares?
  14. Endowment as a Shard possibly meddling on Roshar remainds me of this recent WoB: "There are Shards whose Shardpools are not on the planet they currently inhabit. At least one." and my first thought reading WoR when Shallan describes this pool at the Frostlands with its colours: Endowment, what are you doing on Roshar?
  15. We have the whole panel, but unfortunatly the record is currently with my daughter in another town. Shall we post all of it?
  16. I have also the reading from Friday and we are currently working on it. He told us it was something he has written on his way from Warsaw to Leipzig.
  17. To the topic "Gavilar was on the way..." Feel free to correct me, but if the visions are the way to become a Bondsmith, we'll have to look at the chosen conception of this visions. You aren't just an onlooker, you are able to interact with the past, to change - not the past per se - your own vision of the past and with the personal reaction you get different sorts of informations. Perhaps the way someone acts will decide if you are the special material for a Bondsmith, because this will show your person, your intentions. If - as a example - Gavilar has chosen not to fight for the family or was killed before the arrival of the knight radiants, he wouldn't have the talk about the training.Or perhaps Gavilar had chosen not to leave Feverstone and had ended up with a chat with other soldiers about what was happening. All in all this can be the reason, why Gavilar ended up dead and Dalinar bonded - because of how each one acted in the visions. As fo unity - I always thought Bridge 4 is like a role model for the right form of unity. There are all kind of people united - Darkeyes, Brightlord, Herdazian (even one-armed), Azish, Horneater....the list goes on until we also get a Listener. As much as I would like to see Dalinar as the Bondsmith of the Cosmere, I think it is more likely for his arc to find a way to unite all the Rosharians, not against the Parshendi, not to continue to enslave them, but to find a way to unite with them against the forces of Odium. I know that the Listener weren't Knight Radiants in the past, but this is possible the reason why there never was an end to the Desolations - because without the Listeners the unity isn't perfect.
  18. It depends on the system of justice - normally for us is a system with a division of powers. For justice you need a prosecutor and a defender, one more looking at the law - Skybreakers - the other looking also at the circumstances of a deed - Windrunners. We are also used to a judge - I think about Bondsmiths - and even executioners - Dustbringer perhaps. With the Radiant Knights as superhuman beings you need a common rule, but personally I can't accept one person acting as more as only a part of the legal system - like Nin at the moment.
  19. There was a third power at the beginning - the Power of Creation. Scandrial wouldn't exist, if Ati/Ruin and Leras/Protect hadn't worked together. Now Sazed is balancing the original powers like acid and alkaline. And in the neutral point is Creation. I don't think something is yelling at him, but it is a fragile system - acting too much on one side could probably destroy the balance, perhaps even the Power of Creation.
  20. For "Maxtori" my best guess would be Latin: maximus - greatest torus (Pl. tori) - bead, muscle, but also poet. bed, love, marriage, bier or embankment
  21. A thought to the Shades/Cognitive Shadows: These are the deads who don't go on to the Beyond, right? Kelsier didn't want to go on and is stuck in the cognitive realm, this was his decision. But even he has had problems not to be pulled to the next realm. How about the ones who aren't able to go on? The victims of Hemalurgy or - perhaps, because the Elantrians know about Threnody - the people on Sel who were used as "fuel". Threnody not as a graveyard, more a limbo for damaged souls following hemalurgic experimentations?
  22. With Leras and "Senna" and the last word from Ati "Vax" - perhaps there is a possible connection?
  23. This can also be from Greek: cephalos - head andros - man
  24. On the other hand - if Szeth's death would have been in his own PoV the chapter probably had ended with similiar words. Differently to Szeth/Nale there is a third party - Ym's spren. We don't know about the progression of their bond or the abilities of a spren in such a case. Frankly - I like Ym, but playing advocat has more to do with the children he's helping.
  25. With every new chapter there's the feeling Mistborn 1,5 is written to get this child/children for Mistborn 2. Steris and Wax have different interests, but both are the "Sherlock Holmes"-types - they want to know the answer to each little question, that isn't explained. With Steris Wax is free for his "hobbies" without ruining his House, because this is what Steris is interested in. Oh my - I seldom ship a couple, but this one is nearly perfect....so cute, so awkward...
