Gah. I should be asleep. Having reread through this cycle, I should put some thoughts up on Arinian. Arinian has made eleven posts up to where I've analysed, but a number of these are irrelevant or merely humourous. I do not have the energy to go through them all. I would draw attention to the following posts, through. In his third post (124), in T1M2, Arinian declared that we learnt nothing important, that the T1M1 voting was a mess, and that PK shouldn't have started it, despite taking part in the lynch himself, voting on Silverblade In post 102. This could be explained by further reflection, but is worth noting. The next part worth considering are his votes on Stick and Brightness in T1M2 (post 194). On the basis of votes on himself, he votes on Stick and Brightness to reduce the chances of his getting expelled, but after Stick tells him he's not staying at the Golden Pony, withdraws votes on both of them in post 199. This makes absolutely no sense to me. Either the votes were to reduce the chances of his expulsion/punishment on the horns, in which case Stick's announcement would have been welcome, or they were to reduce tuition, in which case he only needed one vote, and in which case Arinian's original explanation of his votes makes no sense. @Arinian, why were you inconsistent here? Whilst I'll certainly consider your explanation, for now, Arinian.

I've had a day's work, and have just spent more than five hours analysing the game. I've had very little sleep this week, and am unlikely to get a sensible post up tonight, due to tiredness. @A Joe in the Bush, I can provide the data for such a graph, but am really running out of energy tonight, and want to spend the time I have before falling asleep making a post. So, I haven't quite caught up. I've done maybe 150 posts today, and have about 80 to go. As such, take what I say bearing that in mind. On the other hand, I have read everything multiple times, and it's a moot point this time. I, too, am suspicious of Straw. His actions this game have been very consistent. I've analysed 313 posts so far this game, and am not sure he's yet presented his own thoughts on anything, in the twelve posts he's made up to this point. In post 20, he announced he was here. In post 22, he glared at HH for asking him a question. In post 45, he looked at some of the rules, and broke down income by social class. In post 80, he wrote down the tuition calculation. In post 86, he told Queensteph the BB Code for voting. In post 91, he votes on Randuir for tuition reduction. In post 95, he suggests Joe makes charts. In post 99, he graphs income and tuition. In post 123, he announces that we've learnt that Silverblade (who was just sabotaged) was probably not a skindancer). In post 152, he makes a pie chart. I haven't written down what it was about, but recall it being of limited value. In post 171, he summons Drake, and asks him to remove his vote from Hemalurgic Headshot (although notably not from Burnt). In post 240, he votes on DA for tuition reduction. In none of these posts has Straw provided any thoughts of his own. He's been active this game, and more so than usual, but hasn't once stuck his head over the parapet to offer suggestions, or anything that might be analysed. This, to me, raises the question of why he is trying to appear active and contributing, whilst not actually really doing so. @Straw, different though your charts are, would you care to actually offer opinions on players, so that we may analyse you, rather than hiding behind uncontroversial charts?

Working, at the moment. Hoping to get a material post up after I have lunch, depending on how much work comes up.

To His Excellency, my future self, As the existence of this note will no doubt tell you, I have resolved to continue the documentation of my progress on our journey towards omnipotence. I have mixed news, this cycle. I'll begin with the most positive, which will undoubtedly bring great cheer to your day. You may recall the psychology student I referred to in my missive last term? Their interest in my thoughts has continued, and I'm proud to be able to say that they've invited me to present my beliefs to an audience of their peers! I have no doubt that you'll remember the tremendous opportunity this posed to expand our following, but will appraise you next month of the progress. Although the grandeur of your more recent achievements must overshadow our past as an ocean dwarfs a raindrop, I do hope you remember the joy we felt at our recent elevation? This recognition of our talents so early only serves to illustrate the unparalleled potential we hold. The less than positive news is twofold. The governance society has refused my magnanimous offer to act as the society secretary. The chairwoman spouted a load of nonsense about megalomania, and something about refusing to endorse support for dictatorship. Although I can't recall why I stooped so low as to wish to be a part of this pathetic gathering, I will have my revenge upon them, for this affront to my dignity. It can only be explained as a personal attack, my characteristics and knowledge being perfect for such a position. Quite bizarrely, I received notice that a complaint had been made against me. No explanation was attached, but I'm certain that it must be from a student who felt threatened by my policy platform. Overshadowed, perhaps, lost, in the knowledge that they cannot stop my rise to power, or envious of my invitation to present to the psychologists next week... Although I wish I could write further, I must now take my leave, to study. Yours, with great respect, Locke Alveron, in the first month of our second term at the University.

Right. Cluny, Cluny Much though I'd rather maintain my position, and keep my votes on Cluny, who I am still suspicious of, I see no reason for a villager to risk an expulsion of another player based purely on gut that they refuse to defend, either in thread or PM. Whist I think I'm less suspicious of you than I am of Cluny, I am not staying at the Golden Pony, and may well go on the horns and be expelled, so will vote on Ornstein, Ornstein, in order to spread the DP a bit. I've put a lot of time into this game over the last two cycles, and really don't want to see it wasted on the basis of a single, unsupported, gut vote.
-
Frankly, @Ornstein, a single correct gut read does not make your gut an all-powerful alignment detecting tool. People get lucky. Gut reads are interesting, and can inform analysis, but to risk expelling a player without any evidence at all is nothing but reckless. What are your thoughts on Cluny and Burnt? Could you tell me what is informing your gut?
-
@Ornstein, you'll forgive me for not sharing the same faith in your gut, I hope. Would you be able to provide us an example of when your gut was correct? As I recall, you didn't vote in LG32 in any of the cycles you were alive for, which doesn't really inspire confidence in the ability of your gut.
-
@Ornstein, with such a narrow field of candidates, any complaint may put me on the horns, with potentially serious results. Would you mind justifying the vote? Anyone voted on will have a lot of DP stacked on them, and "gut" is a worrying reason for that. :/
-
@Cluny the Scourge, I'm in complete agreement with Stink on that. Much though I hate to fulfil your wish, stated as it is, I am going to vote for you. I only have one post in my analysis so far on you, from T1M1, but think the rest of your posts this cycle warrant very close scrutiny. The first thing to note is your initial post, the 26th of the game. In this post, you ask for advice, and make a point of being a new player. Firstly, this is more often done by players who are evil, seeking to use it to escape suspicion and excuse suspicious actions, but more importantly, it highlights the dissonance with the post Randuir highlighted earlier, casting suspicion on the two of us without an overt vote. I'd also raise your posts earlier this cycle. Your votes on PK and HH didn't seem justified, and you never answered my question about why your post was left on HH, to my knowledge. If anyone has time, I'd suggest they look at these posts further - I'm rushing to get this out before the end of cycle, as I'm unsure what time I'll be able to get off work. Edit: Actually voting. >> Cluny, Cluny.
-
@queensteph, I think I'm going to withdraw my votes from you. Your posts in the remainder of T1M1, and T1M2 appear to me to be far more innocuous, and I'm not convinced that Joe's eagerness explanation is wrong. Queensteph, Queensteph. I haven't analysed T2M1 yet, but will do so tonight. As such, I don't have many thoughts on Burnt, and haven't spent the time thinking about the bodyguard/gram situation that came up last night. I would raise the following points as relevant to discussion on Burnt from T1M1: (Posts clearly summarised by me) 96. Says Queensteph's vote is fine. as a noble can afford it. Doesn't need tuition reduction, asks if she should vote anyway to spread DP? My notes on this post have it as "mild evil", on the basis of being very passive. Burnt was joint fourth on posts by 27 posts before the end of T1M2 (which is where my analysis currently concludes), and is clearly dedicating time to this game. @Burnt Spaghetti, why were you not capable of working out for yourself whether or not you should vote to spread DP? Why the reliance on Randuir? This game isn't Randuir vs the skindancers, it's the whole village vs the skindancers. This reads to me like attempting to ingratiate yourself with him. 98. Will vote for BrightnessRadiant to give every noble a vote on them This followed Randuir posting in between (post 97) saying that we do need more posts. I get a sense of a lack of drive, here, which is incongruous with the effort you're putting into the game. I would, however, note that in Burnt's other eight posts (that I've analysed), nothing else really stood out. Particularly at the beginning of T1M1, she was helpful, and gave sensible advice, barring unwarranted paranoia about a single (apparently suicidal) skindancer placing a single vote for an expulsion if we had no other votes. Her apprehension at Alv's vote on her, and subsequent voting on DA and Aman read to me like warranted self preservation, and are not alignment indicative in my mind. I'm running out of time, but hope to get a post on Cluny up later today, before the end of the cycle.

@Cluny the Scourge, to me it's her jumping on the bandwagon and straight back off that makes me suspicious of her. Not really sure the value in calling for actions when we're discussing votes this cycle? If I'm more likely to be correct, in your own words, why are you still voting on HH? He is suspicious (or at least has had a couple of flags in T1M1 (which I hope to post soon - working on T1M2 analysis >>), but you're inconsistent, such is always a red flag to me.
-
@Cluny the Scourge, would you care to explain why you don't find @queensteph suspicious? I haven't yet had my thoughts actually addressed.

@Paranoid King, my thoughts on this last cycle (an addendum to another point being made): To expound and explain, the point I'm making here is that expulsion is of greater inconvenience to the skindancers, who are likely to try to build a synergistic team, than to the village. The more salient point I made earlier this cycle. The information from a lynch doesn't come from revealing their alignment, but from the interactions of players surrounding the lynch - who ignores it, who engages in discussing a player, who defends them, who proposes a different lynch target. All of those we get without needing to know the alignment of the player who was voted for. This means that when we catch a single skindancer, they provide valuable information as to the identity of the other skindancers, which means we don't have to catch mistakes made by each of them.
-
@Paranoid King, @randuir, Sart said during T1M1 that he would only study for a single term (post 31 of the game), although later (post 41) said that he might be able to stay for an additional cycle, if he were able to file a complaint, which he then did on QueenSteph (post 57). I haven't yet analysed T1M2, but will add further thoughts on Sart later. @Paranoid King, @randuir, @little wilson, @Ornstein, given you're all around, what are your thoughts on my proposal last turn that we actually use the vote effectively, and on my thoughts about @queensteph
-
I wasn't able to complete my analysis last night, due to the volume of posts and the length of time it takes, but will get up what I have when I get home from work, and will continue. For now, I'd reiterate the point I made about voting with intent. No, we don't immediately find out whether or not our target was a skindancer, but we do get to build a picture of which players others defend, which is incredibly useful when we do start gaining information about alignments. At that point, we can catch multiple skindancers through association, rather than having to catch each individually. As such, Queensteph, Queensteph: In C1, you've made four posts by the point I had to cease analysis for the night. I have the following post summaries in my spreadsheet: 8. RP, groups players by social class 51. Asks PK to explain the mass voting. Sounds sensible, but confusing. Doesn't want to follow a plan she doesn't understand. Asks Stink whether it's not a good idea to keep art from thread 58. Thanks PK for clarifying, doesn't see how it helps beyind lowering tuition. Votes Brightness on those grounds. Tells Sart it's because Hael is Hael in player list 64. Jumps of voting as doesn't need money. Vote tally. No vote the way to go. I have a number of thoughts based on these posts. The first, whilst useful, didn't commit you to any thoughts on the game. It gives the impression of contribution to discussion whilst not giving us anything that might provide an insight into your alignment. Why not conduct some analysis on role distribution, given you're focusing on it? Your second post raised a red flag for me. You seemed far too eager to agree with Paranoid King's plan, whilst in a self-admitted position of not understanding it. This, to me, gives the impression that you want to be seen to be involved in planning, whilst not presenting a challenging position that might draw attention to yourself. Your next post seems similarly non-confrontational. You again claim not to see how the plan helps beyond tuition reduction, and then go on to vote on this basis anyway, despite it being to far through the cycle, in accordance with Paranoid King's suggestions. It is the next post in combination with these that has earned you my votes. Here, you undertake a volte-face, but six posts later, in the face of disagreement with Paranoid King's plan from Drake Marshall, and indeed claim that needing the tuition reduction isn't enough to motivate you to vote. Now, I'm not arguing that opinions can't change in the face of evidence, but you seem to be changing opinion to fit with whatever is said, without your own analysis of plans. I will reiterate that my analysis does not extend beyond post 73 of T1M1, and am perfectly willing to accept that there may be major considerations which I have overlooked.

I believe that Wilson still only has a single vote on her. I'm going to offer my most sincere apologies for voting on you once again, Wilson, but I really need tuition decreases. Right. Thoughts on the game in analysis form to come, probably at the start of cycle tomorrow morning. I haven't been analysing this game much at all yet, so the following comments are subject to revision. Looking over the LG18 spreadsheet, I would reiterate to everyone, the importance of lodging. Mercenaries kill, saving the skindancers two turns for every player who becomes a victim, which happened to 7 of 24 players last game. Even without Wilson's die, and their eagerness for bloodshed (despite her own more enlightened predilections), the streets are dangerous. It's probably too late in the day to remind everyone this cycle, but it's not a bad idea going forward. Coupled with insanity, and the check it poses on village strength (the crockery being tantamount to death), I'd have thought that we're unlikely to see more than 5 eliminators this game, despite the weakness of sabotages vs traditional kills. The eliminators will have a material advantage in coordination in the early game, and in a game with the opportunities for synergy such as this, such early coordination will pay dividends. We can, of course, set the eliminators back in their planning. Expulsions for the village are unfortunate, and reduce a single player's power. Expelling a skin dancer may upset the balance of their team. As such, I would support actually dangerous lynches going forward from the next cycle. I realise this is rather hypocritical, but I am unable to vote from a position of knowledge today - a situation I fully intend to have corrected by tomorrow. Locke was growing rather tired with the teaching at the University. Whoever created such a system had entirely no ambition. The lessons in artithmetic? Rhetoric and debate on abstract philosophy? Vint had an opportunity to teach valuable subjects - economics, civic improvement, the virtues of a strong, centralised government organised around a single worthy figurehead. He resolved to himself to add this to his list of Things To Do In Power, which was growing increasingly long. For most among them was a purge of all current arcanists, for obvious reasons. Leaving the source of his own power discoverable? What sort of fool allowed the ongoing development of powers that might challenge their own rule? At the very least, these recurring instances of madness gave him faith that the glorious revolution entirely non-violent and harmonious overthow of the system would progress without issue. Locke had had a productive conversation with a student interested in psychology last week, and they kept returning, which could only indicate his ideas were beginning to take hold.

To my future self, I write as a record to you, that you may look back, comfortable in your palaces, secure in your power, and recall the journey that brought you to your strength and majesty. It has been an interesting month, at the University. It has become apparent that my fellow students, and the masters, are not immediately recognising my inherent superiority and right to rule, and so I have had to begin doing this the hard way. There are a number of associations at the university, on a breadth of incredibly esoteric subjects. Why anyone was remotely interested in discussing trivialities and menial topics like music and dance, I will never understand, but I suppose it does occupy the masses. I have elected to join societies on governance, economics, and philosophy, and have offered myself up as secretary of the first. Where better to coalesce a body of single minded and easily moulded acolytes than a University, impressionable and rebellious as students are, and indeed what better way to control these bodies than through controlling their membership? I have begun sowing the seeds of revolution amongst my fellow lodgers here at the Golden Pony. They profess disinterest, and often make their excuses mid-conversation. I understand, though, that they seek only solitude, in which to appreciate the beauty of my ideas, and know that they will join me, as believers in my wisdom before too long. With great admiration, and the warmest regards, Locke Alveron, in our second month at the University. Thoughts on the game to come, but I've been focusing on trying to get over my fear of writing RP.

Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Orlok Tsubodai replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
LG32: Day Twelve - Lies The village was all there, sleeping close together to ensure that no-one would get split off and die. There was Willie Kara, mostly a trusted voice by the others. There was also Elenion, who had slept non-stop for the most recent days. He would have to go first, I decided. And so it was that Elenion died, with a knife in the throat and a hand around his mouth to stop any sounds. Unfortunately, everyone seemed to have developed a sense for death during the test, and the whole Village awoke, wary of any strangers. The Phantom Stranger was staying away from Willie, wary of any backstabbings. A worthy target. The Phantom Stranger saw only my smile before he died, teeth gleaming in the dark. Sharpened teeth have their uses, though being able to see others while biting is certainly an advantage. Naturally, everyone started running away from the mysterious murderer, which is a shame. Don’t have the time to chase down everyone, so I’ll just have to order the Coinshots to do their job. They weren’t just for show, ya know? Astrid, Rieyun, Jelwynd, Quond and The Follower were all shot down nearly instantly. And by nearly, I mean only the Follower survived the first shots, and even he was dead by the second volley. I absentmindedly pointed at the one who missed the Follower initially, and heard the satisfying sound of a man coughing out his blood. Only the best can be accepted, after all. Looks like there’s just seven left now. Willie Kara was still alive and kicking, trying to Soothe me as if that would achieve anything. The others were either scrambling to find a weapon or slowly accepting their fate, realising that the test meant nothing. I guess living a few days longer is a reward? But that doesn’t matter, now it was time to carry on with killing. Of those Seven left, I simply had to keep on with my Coinshots killing them. I was losing my dramatic flair the longer time went on, ya know? So, everyone say goodbye to Roger, Alrin, David and Ryth. This time, the Coinshots were accurate, which isn’t really that notable when it’s the usual. Only Reval, Willie and Garshin left. And you know what? One of them will live. They were already fated to win from before I even sent the letters out, which must certainly be confusing those who are reading this. ‘I thought the test was pointless?’, you might be saying. In which case, you’re still right. But anyway, it was time for me to finally use my Gift. Oh, I can’t tell you about my Gift. It’s confidential, sorry. Guess we’ll have to skip the details of how Garshin ended up being used as a Garnish for my dinner, or how Willie was transmuted into soap (a very bubbly one) and ended up soothing my muscles after all this hard work. Instead, we’ll get to the only Survivor. ‘Reval?’, you might be thinking again, mysterious audience. How does he even fit the role of my Apprentice? And in response, how do you think all this bloodshed and murder will change him? He will either rise to the challenge, or be demoted to highly-skilled-butcher. His first task? A simple one, really. Deal with this mess. Kipper died to inactivity. They were The Inquisitor The Village have won! Thank you all for playing! I had great fun, and hope you did, too. I’d like to offer thanks to El, who stepped in on a number of occasions to help out when timings were going to be an issue. Most of all, though, I’d like to thank Stink. His writeups have provided a great deal of amusement to me, and eased the burden on GMing significantly. Locke Alveron smiled. He was finally at the university, soon to discover the secrets of the arcane arts. Such power - the ability to change things. Locke had plans, of course. He didn't really believe this nonsense about Skindancers, and fully intended to work out why such a deception was being propagated. Locke sighed. We wasn't going to let it get in the way of his ambition, though. He had a continent to subdue. People frequently called him insane, with unhealthy levels of ambition, and a disregard for pathetic ideals like democracy.... Although they were probably right, on a number of those counts. That didn't really matter, though. With the power Locke planned to obtain, the beliefs of the populace could safely be ignored, as was entirely right and proper. To allow the people influence, decision making... There lay the road to ruin. Locke would see Vint prosper, and ensure security for the populace. Eventually... Lessons to attend, first... Wilson - with Steph's withdrawal, I think this is safe?

LG32: Night Eleven - Failure Dear Quinn, Good news and bad news. The good news is that you won! The bad news is that you won the lynch. But hey, you win some and ya lose some. Though this is kinda your last competition, so you don’t really get any more chances or anything. And you were doing so well! You were so regular, I was amazed. And now you’re gone, even after everyone studied and tested themselves and all that (and if they didn’t then they need to read the titles of the thread).
