[OB] Full Book Reactions / Full Spoilers Thread
StormingTexan replied to Chaos's topic in Stormlight Archive
I may be off base here but I don’t think maxal is neccesarialy saying Adolin should be a radiant but that people like Dalinar, Renarin and Jasnah should be questioning why he hasn’t attracted a spren. Obviously they need more KR and there is no discussion about any of this in the books. No one is questioning why Renarin got picked and not Adolin who’s a master duelist and military leader. These questions would be logical yet they are completely missing. -
@maxal I agree 100% regarding Valyn and Adare but giving Kaden a little more slack for the moment with the stipulation it is entirely possible he will let me down when it is all over. Speaking of the succession to the throne I did not realize until I happened upon a comment on goodreads that Valyn is actually older than Kaden but Kaden was the heir apparent due to his eyes.

Whoa Stormfather is way behind everyone vote! I have Hounded but haven't read it yet so no idea of this Oberon's skills but I doubt he could beat the Shadow of the Almighty. . I bet TenSoon could beat this dog too.

The end of the second book had me scratching my head for a while. I’m still not completely sure what happened when but that’s part of the fun.

Yeah that is what I don't get about the new WoB. "He should stand out more".My first thought was lightweaving or Kandra. If he was using lightweaving wouldn't he choose look more Rosharan? Same thing as a Kandra seems like he would pick some native bones. So not sure what that is supposed to imply. Edit: Yeah @RShara I get that now.

That is correct on his eyes. Hmm I remember now the WoB where Brandon states his lineage. With every answer there are only more questions..

So I just saw this WoB from the Orem signing. Is Brandon eluding to the fact that Felt may be a Kandra? Or possible a Lightweaver?

Arcanum, the Brandon Sanderson Archive, Is Here!
StormingTexan replied to WeiryWriter's topic in Arcanum Discussion
Just want to say thanks to the folks transcribing these! I am literally hitting refresh every few minutes on the Orem signing. -
I want to see the movie but what you said is exactly what I figured it would be. When I first saw there was a movie adaptation I couldn't wrap my brain around how they would follow the books because they are so internal. Then I thought no way movie goers who haven't read to book would be happy with the ending of Annihilation.

Welcome! I started with Mistborn as well and it keeps getting better every time I read it both eras. I thought the exact same thing as you regarding tWoK I did not instantly love it. Big difference between it and MB is in MB you get a pretty good grasp of the magic very early on where we are still learning a lot in SA even after 3 books. SA is an amazing series though and I think by the time you get through tWoK you will have a new appreciation for it. One small tip take a break after tWoK and read Warbreaker before WoR then Edgedancer before Oathbringer.
-
Welcome! I'd read Warbreaker next I think it will add some depth to SA you may have missed previously. Plus it is just a good book in itself. After that Elantris is a good option but be warned Brandon has grown a lot since he wrote that and you've kinda read his most polished works first. Mistborn is what I started with and Era 1 being finished adds to the enjoyment a lot. I like Era 2 a lot as well which sounds like you have read the first book which was supposed to be the only one from that era. Honestly the order does not matter that much with Warbreaker being the tiny exception but no need to worry about that now.

I finished The Providence of Fire. Overall I liked it. Maybe not as much as the first book but still found it enjoyable. Very spoilery more in-depth thoughts.

You are not alone in this frustration.
-
I actually LOL when I read this WoB the other day.
-
So does this setup something screwy like we will find out Kaladin 's grandmother or grandfather is a brighteye from one of the major houses? Sounds a little days of our lives'ish.

[OB] The Lopen was never a squire
StormingTexan replied to MountainKing's topic in Stormlight Archive
Not really proof one way or the other but Lopen does say this early on in OB while Kaladin is away. He uses “we’ll” instead of “you’ll” indicating him as well. Now I guess it could be argued that he’s covering it up or just doesn’t know he’s attracted a spren. Then we have Lopen in the Bridge 4 POV searching under rocks which was presumable him looking for his spren. I’d think this would be pretty early on in his bonding but who knows. -
@Herowannabe and @Kaladin al'Thor Oh man so glad someone else likes the Bobiverse! I am about to re-listen all of those. Have you guys checked out the Expeditionary Force series? They are great audio books and I think you would like them if you like Bobiverse. They are narrated by the great R.C. Bray. I typically switch back and forth between Sci-Fi and Fantasy too much of one genre wears me out. I also liked the Lightbringer series, Riyria Revelations and The Licanius trilogy (I cannot freaking wait until the last book is released) mentioned by others. I tried Malazan.. I know people love it just couldn't get in to it but maybe will try again one day. Another one I have not seen mentioned yet in this thread is the Powder Mage books. I think most Sanderson fans will enjoy these. Kingkiller Chronicals is awesome but honestly would tell anyone that hasn't read it to wait and see if Patrick ever finishes it. Otherwise you will just be one of the many fans that are driven crazy waiting without any end in sight. I am currently on the second Unhewn Throne book and enjoying it so far but have seen some mixed reactions from people here.

This is tough one for me because I really like the metallic arts especially Feruchemy and especially knowing it will eventually lead to FTL travel. I also REALLY like forgery TES is one of my favorite Sanderson books. Obviously the magic in SA is pretty awesome as well and we do not even know all of its uses yet. The magic in Elantris is cool I guess but something about drawing symbols in the air seems kinda lame to me. Like "hold on a sec bad guy I almost have this drawn". I have to give my favorite slot to BioChroma. I think the main reason I like it the most is technically anyone on the planet can use it. It is not a special skill you are born with (although I guess you do not have to be born with a metallic art to eventually get it) or reliant to having a spren bond with you. I also really like awakening, lifeless and I mean it produced a talking sword nuff said.

Welcome! One of mine too! The original though not the revised version.
-
Ok I'll concede it may be possible but not probable. I would also think if it could be done Vasher would have done it as that would be the simplest method of dealing with Nightblood. This of course would break my heart as I love Nightblood bad breath and all.
-
Kind of a moot point either way because that Awakener is long dead.
-
Finished The Emperor's Blades. I liked it. I wish there was more of Adare's POV but hopefully there will be more in the next two books. Moving on to The Providence of Fire.

[OB] What you wished you’d seen
StormingTexan replied to The Thinking Herald's topic in Stormlight Archive
Agreed. There are a lot of interpersonal conversations missing. It is ok that some of this should be assumed to take place offscreen but adding it in make the characters feel a lot more real and believable. I would have also expected an emotional conversation between Jasnah and Navani when she returned from the dead. It is not just one character too there is little between Dalinar and his sons that was not a flashback. It is like we need a novella showing the various POV of the Kholins similar to the Bridge 4 POV chapters. -
[OB] What you wished you’d seen
StormingTexan replied to The Thinking Herald's topic in Stormlight Archive
Agree with everything stated above. Some of these things can be addressed in future books but others like Amaram are pretty much dead (in multiple ways). Aesudan is another character I thought had an underwhelming role to play until meeting her demise. Adolin killing Sadeas certainly can be brought back up but I feel like all the tension has been lost. The biggest thing that I wish was shown more is a conversation between Dalinar, Szeth and Kaladin after the battle. With what was on screen it feels unbelievable to me that Szeth would be just welcomed into the fold and then appointed Dalinar's bodyguard. Some dialog could have helped a lot here. -

Nightblood sitting at a bar looking depressed because all the evil on Roshar has been destroyed.
