[OB] Full Book Reactions / Full Spoilers Thread
StormingTexan replied to Chaos's topic in Stormlight Archive
That is a pretty fair review and I also agree with what @maxal says above. Very similar to tWoK for me after re-reading Oathbringer I appreciate it a lot more on the second time through. Once I can get the destination of "what is going to happen next" out of my forethought I start to enjoy the journey of the story (see what I did there?). The glaring issue by far is so many things are crammed into this book that a lot of what was setup in previous books is left unexplored to it's full potential. It seemed like Brandon was in such a hurry to advance the story along with new plot lines he chose to dismiss the previous ones as quickly and unceremoniously as possible. All while somehow writing the biggest SA book yet. My only explanation is Brandon still has a lot of story to tell in the next two books in the front 5 and felt like he needed to speed up the progress. I do like the book and some of it is even great. -
@AngelEy3 haha that’s a pro tip I forgot about! This process grew increasingly difficult as you were attempting to make that perfect mix tape for the special girl in your life. I remember spending hours trying to get The First Time by Surface recorded perfectly.

Lego character theme songs aside Beds are Burning was a bigger song. Although I remeber the music video for The Dead Heart more. Recording your songs on cassettes is a struggle melinials will never know. Record and play at just the right time and hoping the DJ won’t talk over the intro.

[OB] The Girl Who Looked Up, and what she stole
StormingTexan replied to Wandering Investor's topic in Stormlight Archive
I like it. I assumed it was Stormlight she somehow brought back but a spren makes a lot of sense as well as the catalyst to make the highspren change sides. -
Haha glad you’re enjoying it so far!

Yeah the Moash assassination attempt bothers me too. One opportunity for this to be picked back up is you would think Kaladin would eventually tell Dalinar exactly what happened to him at Kholinar and this is a chance for Kaladin to come clean. The problem with this is if there is a year gap I do not really see how this comes up a year later that we would see on screen. I dunno there seems to be several things that have lost their tension even if they come to light later. Makes me wonder if the books/plots just got too big for everything to be addressed properly.

I also agree that I would recommend reading Warbreaker next because of the SA tie in while everything is fresh in your mind.

A question about the ending of "The bands of mourning"
StormingTexan replied to Zape's topic in Mistborn
Read Mistborn Secret History then go back and read the last part in BoM! -
I love RPO! It’s one of the handful of books I re-read when I want something that’s just fun. I have also struggled with The First Law. I tried a couple times before finally getting through the first book and then didn’t feel compelled to continue. I feel like I should like it. The characters are interesting but something just doesn’t click with me. On an earlier post I remembered Lock In and decided to do a quick re-read. From the comments above I will read Iron Gold next. Was a little hesitant because I’ve seen some mixed reactions but the first there books and comments above are persuading me to give the author the bennifit of the doubt.

While I agree with you I think Captain Kaladin has a nice ring to it. Just roles off the tongue. General Kaladin not so much. Maybe Colonel Kaladin? Radiant Kaladin sounds cool though but he still has some oaths to go before I think that title should be used officially. Anything but Brigadier Bridge Boy..

Has anyone read Iron Gold yet? How did it stack up to the original trilogy (which I loved)?
-
I was going to post something about the flute too. Where the heck is it? More importantly though... Does Wema's sister choose the strapping naval officer, Thaylen banker or the King's Wit in the sequel to An Accountability of Virtue?

That's an interesting theory about Nale being involved with Gavilar's death. I see the logic in it but I also see Kalak's ramblings meaning they should not have left their honorblades with the Shin. The end result though does align with Nale's goals at the time so maybe not directly involved but not against the action either.

(OB) So... what happened to Aesudan

@Calderis that’s right just re-read the ending!

While I agree with you that we can’t always trust what in-book characters think all the time I don’t think this is an instance they are wrong. BoM spoilers

I absolutely hate these threads because they pose an almost impossible question to me. Before OB it would have been Kaladin hands down but after it is a three way tie between Jasnah, Dalinar and Kaladin for me. Because I know she wont get as much love I voted for Jasnah. Most entertaining in general is Lift for me.

Biggest 180 I've had with one of Brandon's characters. I could of cared less for him until this book and just when I started really liking him and rooting for him he's killed. Brandon clearly wanted to torture us but in a sense I really liked what happened here. He died protecting his son and envisioning himself as the person he should be. Better late than never but sometimes you have to pay the devil his dues. Completely gut wrenching though and fo sure one of the biggest moments in the book.

As a matter of fact there it text to support this as well in BoM. BoM spoilers below

Do it! The original trilogy is fantastic. I really like the Era 2 books as well but those may not be as unanimously liked. Same world just in a turn of the century setting.

Just to add a little more context regarding nicrosil pre-Catacendre it would have been extremely rare if even existing from a pretty reliable source. Not really too much of a spoiler but from BoM
