[OB] What happened to Sadeas' Shardplate?
StormingTexan replied to Bort's topic in Stormlight Archive
He did? Amaram already had plate why would he wear Sadeas's plate? -
[OB] Unpopular Opinion: Evi's death was underwhelming
StormingTexan replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think this would have been too much. If she say tried to block his advance and he killed her directly that would have been way over the top and seen as unredeemable. It was bad enough she died because of his monstrous rage but can you imagine him trying to explain to Adolin and Renarin that he ran her through with Oathbringer for getting in his way? -
I'm going to throw out a curveball and say Aesudan for book 4. I think there is a little more to her story and this is the best way to tell it. I agree with others book 5 will be Gavilar.

[OB] Cultivation's perpendicularity
StormingTexan replied to shawnhargreaves's topic in Stormlight Archive
Odium still needs to kill Cultivation and I’d think taking over her perpendicularly is a step in this. -
[OB] Audible Books & Prices
StormingTexan replied to Wit Beyond Measure's topic in Stormlight Archive
I’ve got an audible subscription but a lot of times its cheaper to do as you said so I always check amazon before getting a new audio book. Some books may be $6.99 for the kindle edition and then it cost $2.99 to add audio so you end up spending less that the $15 credit cost. Of course I’m almost always out of credits anyway. -
I have a hard time seeing Nale be turned into a puppet of Odium even if he is siding with the Singers. I think there may be a legal distinction there in his mind too that he may agree that Roshar belongs to the Singers but not necessarily be on Odium's side. In fact he may be directly against Odium as he is using the Singers as his Pawns. He didn't join either side in the battle of Thaylen.

[OB] Favorite Bridge Four Member?
StormingTexan replied to Devout Pathian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Rock reminds me a lot of Mihali especially in OB. WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP MAKING THESE POLLS THAT REQUIRE NEAR IMPOSSIBLE DECISIONS! Ok if I had to pick just one I'd have to go with The Lopen. All the silliness aside his positivity and optimism in spite of being in terrible situations is up lifting. Plus he was the king of Alethkar and showed his spren how to flip the bird. -
I'm guessing referring to this one. This one blew my mind at least. Putting in spoiler tag because it contains slight spoilers for OB.
-
Glad you liked it! It is actually one of my favorites too that doesn't get as much love as the others. This was confirmed in a WoB. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/202-barnes-and-noble-book-club-qa/#e5943
-
That is very possible. Syl also survived the recreance since her KR died before it so I am sure there are others as well.
-
Wow this is a hard one! They are all pretty good from what we have seen. The scene with Rua flipping the bird was hilarious. Pattern was really good in OB. I like Syl but that seems too obvious. I think I'd like Ivory too if I got to know him better. If I have to pick a favorite I am going with Wyndle. He has to put up with Lift and that tips the scale.

I saw the Chocobos as well that has to be them! I’m guessing we will get a few newer pop culture cameos in the movie that were not in the book. I remember seeing a few more in the trailers. @Farnsworth I've seen it referenced as "nostalgia porn" which is a fitting description. I was a kid in the 80s so it was a stroll down memory lane for me especially all the old video game and movie references. I think the book resinates a lot more with people that were growing up in that time. @gerareg So I hated Armada. Yeah I get people think RPO is just a bunch of references to pop culture but there was also a fairly unique world and overall story. Armada is basically a rip off of The Last Starfighter with some more nostalgia porn sprinkled in for good measure. Was really disappointed since I liked RPO so much.

[OB] Dalinar's Base name
StormingTexan replied to Paracosmic_nomenclator's topic in Stormlight Archive
The one thing I would ask Brandon if I can ever make it to a signing is if people on Nalthis have epicanthic folds. -

StormingTexan replied to Chaos's topic in Stormlight Archive
@maxalthats exactly how I see it. We will have to agree to aggre. I was just found the criticism about the scene interesting because I in no way saw it as Brandon inserting himself but one of the rare calm (as You eloquently put it) before the storm moments for Dalinar. It was nice to see Dalinar as human instead of the animal he perceives himself as. -
Finished up the Southern Reach trilogy. I don't even know if I liked it. It is one of those unresolved endings you are supposed to make your own assumptions. It was very interesting and thought provoking with excellent prose but for sure not spoon feed to you left ultimately unresolved. I will say it was very unique. A while ago I read The Shadow of What Was Lost by James Islington and really liked it then kind of forgot about it. I just saw the second book to the series has been out for a while and the third is being published in the summer. I am rereading the first one (forgot almost everything except the fact I liked it enough to email the author and congratulate hm on his first book) and then I'll jump in to the second book.

StormingTexan replied to Chaos's topic in Stormlight Archive
Point taken. Although I see the latter as a side effect of Odium grooming Dalinar to be his Champion. Dalinar became obsessed with conquest and nothing else was important to him including his children. For me at least this didn't take away from this very human moment of Adolin's birth. He was trying to follow Evi's advice and "live in the moment". Unfortunately right after this Gavilar's diplomacy failed and he was forced to be the Blackthorn again. -
[OB] Who will be Odium's champion?
StormingTexan replied to BraidedRose's topic in Stormlight Archive
@Dreamstorm I also agree more with your option 3. I’m not saying it’s null and void. It’s just not an option for Odium now. Odium thought he had a slam dunk plan foiled by Cultivation. Heck I don’t think I’d believe anyone that says they didn’t think Dalinar was about to become his champion during that scene it all made sense at the time. Obviously a lot of this was Dalinar’s doing but Cultivation played a pretty big roll to and I’m excited to see more on how she’s pulling strings. -
Technically speaking Lightsong does know that they look the way they envision themselves. He mentions it a few times about himself and the other Returned. I agree though he does not know he can change his look. I think it is mentioned that it takes some practice to do this as Vasher and Denth had to learn how to do it.

Official Star Wars Episode VIII Spoiler Topic
StormingTexan replied to Briar King's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I get all that with the balance of the force and understand why she can be strong with the force. I'd argue though that she is showing a level of mastery beyond inherent ability to use the force. I could dismiss the part where she was able to resist Kylo's mind control but then she is just able to instinctively use the mind control on the Storm Trooper? Also be able to fight off and best Kylo (who had two very powerful masters to train him in both the dark and light) the first time she picks up a lightsaber? As I said I thought this was weird in The Force Awakens but dismissed it at he time thinking we would learn she was one of Luke's students or some other reason for her apparent skills. -
[OB] Who will be Odium's champion?
StormingTexan replied to BraidedRose's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree with @Varion the champion deal is off the table. Odium may be able to "see" that Dalinar would have be the only champion he could pick that he KNEW would win. If Dalinar had become corrupted as Odum's champion would that have ended it right there? My guess is it would have because I cant see Dalinar becoming Odium's champion and then picking a champion of his own. The Storm Father said Odium would not agree to the challenge of champion easily and I think he only did it knowing it was the easy way to free himself by choosing Dalinar. I think Cultivations plan was the one thing Odium couldn't see. I fell like this option is off the table now and Odium will avoid this at all cost because it is not a sure thing anymore. -
[OB] What *were* the Heralds guarding?
StormingTexan replied to sword_nimi's topic in Stormlight Archive
From how I understand it he wouldn't have one unless he was fully invested in a planet which he is purposefully not doing so he can travel the Cosmere and kill other shards in the effort to be the most powerful being in the Cosmere. He is though bound to Braize by something that happened between him, Honor and Cultivation. -
He actually says "You will find out what the Alethi have learned of this tower". I'm thinking it is not necessarily an attack he is thinking about but wondering if they have discovered what Urithiru is and what it can do. Which I'd like to know too

This made me laugh. Of course everyone knows Balat is actually Tonk Fah. I was kinda in the same boat. Read tWoK and WoR before Warbreaker and totally missed all the Vasher and Nightblood references. Right after I finished WoR I joined this site and saw a thread talking about Vasher and Nightblood and read Warbreaker right away. Wish I would have come here before WoR and read Warbreaker first would have made it a lot better but honestly I thought WoR was pretty amazing even missing out on this. OB though I almost think Warbreaker is necessary reading.

[OB] Full Book Reactions / Full Spoilers Thread
StormingTexan replied to Chaos's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is an interesting criticism to me because it did not feel out of place at all to me. The feeling the moment you meet your first child is one you will never quite experience again. Mothers form a bond with the child through the pregnancy men not so much. It was life changing for me. When I first saw and held my son I understood what it was all about and it was almost overwhelming. I thought the scene was pretty accurate of course Brandon has experienced this so that helps. The scene that really got me in the feels though was when Renarin gave Dalinar the bottle. Wow that one made me cry.
