Announcing: An Interactive Map & Timeline of Roshar
StormingTexan commented on Paleo's article in Site News
This is absolutely amazing. Thank you to all the people that worked on it! -
This was an entertaining chapter. Loved the family banter. Now we have one more chapter before the big show.
-
Just started 3 today. I liked 1 and 2 as well but I keep hearing 3 is when the series really hooks you so looking forward to it.
-
After my Stormlight re-read these Dresden books seem so quick. I read the first one in a couple days and almost finished Fool Moon. I like them so far. I have been told the series really picks up with book three so looking forward to that.
-
I am so excited and hoping it is released just in time for my vacation last week of the month. Beach and Dawnshard sounds like a good combo.
-
This is exactly what I was thinking.
-
“A long time. A mind-numbingly long time. The place I come from, it didn’t have any of these. It’s too new. Your world might have some hidden deep, but I doubt it. That stone you hold is old. Older than Wit, or your Heralds, or the gods themselves.”
-
I am finally starting The Dresden Files. It’s been on my list forever.
-
You did not highlight "I think". That was not a statement on my part that is simply what I think will happen and the entire purpose Kaladin has been built up so much over these three books. Sure it is possible Dalinar will roll up his sleeves and take on Odium's champion with a fresh copy of WoK under his arm but I just do not see it going that way. I think he will choose a champion for their side for the battle of champions. Like I said Moash is a pretty strategic choice for Odium in a fight against Kaladin. Odium is grooming Moash. He gave him an Honorblade. If it is not a fight against Kaladin I agree I am sure there are plenty of better options.
-
Not sure why you would consider Kaladin fighting Odium's champion as a "small chance". The only other possibility I can think of is Dalinar but I think he knows Kaladin is the best they have and can actually use a sharblade which seems like an important thing in a fight for humanity. Plus Odium has future sight. He knows what will happen not much of a gamble when you know who your champion will fight.
-
Well mainly because I think it will be Kaladin that ends up fighting Odiums's champion and can Kaladin kill Moash? I do not mean physically I mean mentally. Seems like a pretty dang good reason to use Moash as his champion.

This chapter was awesome. I am so glad we were able to see the Fused plan. It's been interesting to me to think of fighting a force that never really dies. This war could go on essentially forever and the Fused would have a much better chance of eventually winning a long term war. Now we see motivation to gain a sense of urgency from the fused. If only the KR knew it! Brandon so far is doing a great job crafting a team of villains. Sure we have big bad Odium but I really like seeing the individualism and separate motives of the Fused. This is getting exciting! I feel like Moash as many have guessed is being set up to be Odium's champion. I mean this has to end with him fighting Kaladin for the fate of humanity right? It is interesting the concern the Fused have for 4th ideal KR. They mention they will not be able to use the "suppressor" but I would also assume plate blocks their ability to use their stormlight draining weapons as well. That would be bad for them and I can see why being more aggressive now is vital before more 4th ideal KR are around.

Reading Heavens River the 4th Bobiverse book and really enjoying it. Especially since the author worked in a reference to Expeditionary Force another sci-fi series I like.
-
That’s fair. The Martian is a special book for me because it was the last one my dad and I read before he passed away. I probably had unrealistic expectations for Artemis but my main complaint was how he wrote a female protagonist. Some authors are really good at writing characters of the opposite sex but I felt like Andy Weir really missed the mark on this and it was hard for me to get past.
-
Man that book was a complete disappointment and I was hyped for it. Felt the same way about Andy Weir's second book after The Martin.

Hmm I see your point just trying to make the leap why Breaths are less tied to Endowment. Unless it is because they are freely given to everyone on Nalthis by Endowment so the connection is less because technically it it the persons investiture as opposed to the Storm Fathers investiture that he is allowing people to use but not "own". I guess it kinda makes sense connection wise. I'd need to think a little more on how this works with Scadrial. It may also be the case it is not necessarily the investiture but the container as with what Mraize has alluded to. So it seems the real issue is it would still be difficult for a KR to travel to another world mainly because of their bond and Spren being so connected to Roshar which is unique as far as connection compared to other worlds. Tin foil hat back on.
-
Yes have read it several times. Unfortunately I did not like his next book.
-
Dune is a must read in my opinion. I'll say you my be tempted to continue on with the series and some of it is good past Dune but honestly if you are reading it for the first time I would stop after Dune.
-
I agree with this too. We have no other evidence I can think of that he is holding breaths but yet we know he has an Aviar I think with the context we are supposed to make that conclusion. Has Shallan mentioned noticing this before we saw him with the Aviar? Well yes it is a little ambiguous mainly because he does not say "all" however it would be odd to me that breaths do not follow the identity rules of other investiture. On the other hand the "trick" that is being referred to may be what was used by Vasher, Vivenna and Nightblood. Obviously Hoid must know the trick as well. Tin foil hat time Restares is Hoid!
-
So I re-read the chapter because I liked it so much. What makes Nightblood different? Per WOB "he" is the most invested object in the Cosmere besides Shards.
-
Wow a lot to unpack in this chapter. Mraize is the master of the dangling carrot trick. Like someone else said I think his Aviar is an Owl by the hunting and the way Shallan describes as "The thing was so strange, so alien. It stood upright, like no other beast Shallan had studied." Second guess would be a hawk or falcon. I also think it is granting his "Lifesense" like powers. Sounds like Shallan will be more Cosmere aware soon. Who in the heck is Restares? Shallan will know what to do when she finds him? More info on what Gavilar was doing I found interesting as well as his travels to Braize and the in-book confirmation of Voidlight. I feel like there is more to the motivation of the Ghost bloods but was glad to get this much as it was a lot more than we knew thus far. So are there "cells" of Ghostbloods on other planets throughout the Cosmere? I would think with their goals and clear world hopping abilities they would have started to build a network throughout the Cosmere. On a side note Brandon has always made it clear he does not want people to have to have Cosmere knowledge or have read all the books to enjoy the different series but I feel like this is a little jump here. It has gone from cameo appearances and minor story lines to what looks like bigger plots. I know the Ghost Bloods are only a minor plot in the grand scheme of things but now we know their goal and a major character is getting more involved with a lot of Cosmere wide implications. Not complaining in any way I love the Cosmere goodies I just think this is quickly getting past the point of being able to fully enjoy as a stand alone series and that is a little surprising to me.
-
This was a an absolutely brutal but beautiful chapter. Brandon is not holding back on the feels early on at all. Adolin is a great friend and I loved the banter between him and Veil even the boob talk. As usual I worry about Shallan though. So am i understating this correctly that Rock will be judged by Wit? I somehow do not think Wit will be to harsh on him and cant wait for the novella. Btw does anyone else ever meld Rock with Mihali from the Powder Mage books?

Shallan's Childhood Secret (Theory Time!)
StormingTexan replied to Harfyn's topic in Stormlight Archive
I’m not so sure about that. She knew enough to know that Pattern did not know. Her fathers garden deal too which I guess may be something that is not relevant but seems like it could be. I just do not think it is that simple but who knows. Trust me I hope you are right because I would rather it be something like those -
Shallan's Childhood Secret (Theory Time!)

I kinda cringed when I read these parts in the preview chapters. On one hand I want it to be something positive like what has been mentioned about her accepting the fact she did not destroy her family. On the other hand I just do not see how she could consider a realization and admittance of this worst than admitting she killed her parents. Even considering the circumstances that is a huge thing and what else is worst than that? Only thing I can think of is that her actions (more than likely unintentional) caused the death/s of someone that was completely innocent which would be considerable worst than what happened to her father/mother in my opinion. Possible under the influence of an Unmade? -
