Real-world implications of the Secret Projects
StormingTexan replied to AquaRegia's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I was surprised to find out he has a staff of 30 people. Obviously not all of the will do fulfillment but he has built a bigger operation than I would have thought. We do a lot of fulfillment at my work and on really large projects we will bring in contractors and have our full time employees supervise them. I think this could easily be done for this and they will figure it out. -
It maid be laugh!

Real-world implications of the Secret Projects
StormingTexan replied to AquaRegia's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I am almost as fascinated with this as I am about the secret books for some strange reason! I am in the printing industry (but not publishing). Your cost to an extent will go down by the volume of books printed but there is a point of diminishing returns especially considering the fulfillment aspect which does not get cheeper the more you do. On the other hand the digital content is heavily front end loaded but amortized over a project like this there will be a pretty big margin on those sales. If I had to guess the margins will be fairly slim on the printed books compared to the digital content but offering packages like this more than likely offsets some of the lower margins (books and boxes). Either way I think this will be a pretty successful endeavor for Brandon and his team and It is pretty clear the supporters feel confident they will pull it off. Exciting to think about the future possibilities. I am predominately a digital content consumer I try to limit physical possessions in my home so this is a no brainer for me $60 for 4 digital and audiobooks from Brandon is a win any day. -
I am curious why they have to exist on the planet of his audience. We have seen Hoid use words and phrases that the audience does not understand (like bunny) so I may be missing something. Sure the majority of the words will be understood through Connection but it is possible some are not (and so far we are just hearing one side of it).

Brandon's announcement video tomorrow
StormingTexan replied to Ixthos's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Oddly enough I find the kickstarter results almost as interesting as the secret books haha. I am fascinated in this concept and at first thought man this is going to ruffle some feathers in the publishing world but John Scalzi's blog post really put it in perspective on how few authors could accomplish this. Really an amazing accomplishment. -
Brandon reading from Secret Project #1
StormingTexan replied to Honorless's topic in Tress of the Emerald Sea
I'm hesitant to use the "they understood" argument to rule out who he is telling the story to. Hoid on occasion has used words and phrases his audience does not understand (bunny for example) and we are only getting Hoid's POV so far at least so we do not know what the audience does or does not understand. -
Secret Project Sample Chapters: Yay or Nay?

It is kind of fun listening to Brandon's reading too. I've listened to the first one three times haha. -
Secret Project Sample Chapters: Yay or Nay?
StormingTexan replied to nerpspren's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Well I said I wouldn't and my willpower lasted for about 10 minutes after finding out the update was posted... I am just too curious about these to not take a peek under the kimono... -
Oh I like it! "A forbidden love from across the Cosmere" After a chance meeting in Shadesmar our two star crossed lovers have to cope with their unorthodox relationship in the physical realm. What will her family think when she brings home a Surgebinder? What will his family think when when she eats the silverware?

I love the three body books ha e read them multiple times. I’ll check out these short stories as well!

Best hair in the Star Wars Universe!
-
Everything besides the main story is great! Of course I think I’ve forgotten what the main story is about…
-
And so far the best episode...
-
Yes!

I do not disagree. It almost feels like an unnecessary story to tell. I liked the cameo in The Mandalorian and maybe it should have just ended there. I will finish it up and maybe it will finish stronger than it started but I do not have a lot of hope. So far the best part has been a character that made an appearance in episode 3 I think but I will not mention their name to avoid a spoiler.
-
I do not think a thread has been started for this series yet. So what does everyone think so far?
-
I have been avoiding this thread until I got to finish the show. Overall I thought it was good. Not great but let's face it there is a lot about the book that is not great as well. I get the need to escalate some of the plot lines and character development but overall it just felt really rushed especially the beginning and end to the first season.I think some of this may have been due to the production issues as well (a little bummed we are getting a new Mat I liked the actor in this season). Man I am amazed at how much I have forgotten from the books after reading other peoples comments. In a way that is probably good lol. One thing I do remember is the shear amount of characters and I understand this would have been impossible to do on screen so I am not going to be too harsh on the show for making some of the changes they did even though I feel like some will have some pretty big implications to fairly major plot lines down the road. I felt like the casting was pretty good I think I have the same standouts as most others do Moraine, Lan and Nynaeve. The show has made me want to re-read the books again. I have only read them once but it was after they were all released and although I did not like every book I did like the series overall and this show has rekindled that a bit. I will watch season 2 when it comes out.

I really liked this series and tbh I really wasn't expecting much after The Falcon and The Winter Soldier although I loved Loki. I think Kate made the show though. I also really liked seeing more of the Ronin story. Only complaint was the season was so short!

spoilers for every movie Spiderman
StormingTexan replied to Channelknight Fadran's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Man this was such a good movie! In preparation I watched the first two Tom movies but now I wish I would have watched them all. I have seen the Tobey ones but not the Andrew ones. I need to go back and watch all those then No Way Home again I think. I'm a fan of Tom over Tobey but I need to watch the Andrew ones before I can say which one I like best (although I really liked him in this movie). Really fun movie and looking forward to whatever comes next. -
Really liked this adaptation and thought they did about as good of a job as you can adapting the book (which happens to be one of my favorites) without the ability of introspective thought. The scale and world building was very well done. Loved seeing the ships and the sandworms. The only thing I thought that could have used a little explanation for people that have not read the books was the Mentats but you would probably glance over that if you did not know any better. I thought it was cast really well too. I do feel this was made for fans of the book and hope people that have not read it can still enjoy it. Looking forward to the second part.

I thought it was entertaining and a good expansion of the Reckoners Universe. I agree some of the things like weaknesses and motivators being so well understood in this book was a little distracting. It did not bother me a ton though.

I like the second book but the first is a masterpiece and I read it once every year. I’m not sure if I’ve ever read anything as haunting as The Scholar’s Tale. The Priest’s Tale is a close second.
