  1. I think people assume the downvote is done intentionally. I haven't really gone to the mobile site, but if I were to scroll up and down with my finger on the touchscreen, what are the chances of accidentally downvoting a post? And since I'm scrolling mindlessly, I might not even notice to try to get it corrected.
  2. And also it would be the name of an in-universe book... yeah, quite a few things seem to flow together here...
  3. I'm not sure we know Eshonai well enough to care... or if she's in any state for us to relate to in the present! Of course, half of that statement could be said about Szeth... blood and bloody ashes, by replying with a rebuttal I may have made a case for Dalinar to be the next character! WHAT HATH I WROUGHT?!
  4. What? No Mervyn Peake? What sort of heresy is this? I wouldn't recommend you go out and buy Titus Groan right now, but keep it in the back of your head. Particularly if you read and like China Mieville. And how could you not have the One True Author: John Crowley? Once again, you have to be in the right state of mind, I'd see if you could check out Engine Summer from the library. It's a quicker read than Little, Big and will let you know real quick if you'll like him... or be doomed to mediocrity! Now for an actual recommendation you can use sooner than later... has John Scalzi been mentioned yet? He's science fiction, but he writes consistently enjoyable books.
  5. And now, for something completely different: "Let us call what is to be analyzed as the analysandum, and let us call that which does the analyzing the analysans. The analysis then states an appropriate relation of equivalence between the analysandum and the analysans. And the paradox of analysis is to the effect that, if the verbal expression representing the analysandum has the same meaning as the verbal expression representing the analysans, the analysis states a bare identity and is trivial; but if the two verbal expressions do not have the same meaning, the analysis is incorrect" -C. H. Langford.
  6. Robot Unicorn Attack. That's Eddie, the mascot of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden. This particular image comes from the album Seventh Son and I associate with the song Clairvoyant.
  7. Szeth is the reason most of the plot of the Stormlight Archives happen! He's the Eye of the Everstorm, all revolves around him, of course he's a main character! I would be fine with Dalinar being the character, but dang it! Choosing Eshonai would be mean...
  8. Cinnamon toast Crunch! French Toast Crunch is kinda gross. My element, as seen on the Periodic Table, is Oxygen... with a molar mass of 15.9994 grams per mol.
  9. Wear gloves and a mask! Or better yet, get the new guy to handle that!
  10. That's a good observation. I think it comes down to "practicality" and the "logic" of a situation. And since we do not know what his base ideal was on that day, we do not know if the Diagram will ultimately serve Odium by design. I would say if his Ideal is to save Roshar the planet, the Diagram will go against Odium but will not necessarily necessitate the survival of mankind. If it's to save mankind, that still does not mean that it will try to save as much of mankind. Could be just the species, and specifically those members that would insure its survival and success in the world to come (kinda like eugenics). If he has contempt for mankind and feels that someone/something Superior needs to keep them in line...
  11. What's your view on Egyptian gods and goddesses being used in comic entertainment (for example, Marvel's Moon Knight is an "avatar" of Khonsu, who in some myth cycles is the son of Bast)? Do you find it disrespectful? Ignorant? Funny? Don't care?
  12. Spray your cat regularly for maximum fluffiness!

  13. How is a Raven like a writing desk?
  14. Time to get in on this fad before it becomes yesterday's cheese!..... And we're off to a fantastic start!
  15. Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near?
  16. Why do you hate all things that are good?

If Jimmy cracks corn, and nobody cares, then why does he keep doing it?
  18. Heh, I referenced that scene to my sister-in-law yesterday. Some punk kids broke into my brother's car, and my advice to her was to "Mash them! Smash them! Skin them alive!" When she said that might not be a good idea, I rebuked her, "And you call yourself and Orc?"
  19. In regards to your spoiler, I read Mistborn first and I loved Szeth. He's a plot mover, if he shows up, you know the over all plot is going to march forward. It's like Quinn from The Night's Dawn Trilogy: He is a terrible, awful, repugnant human being... but nearly every time he showed up in that bloated trilogy, something actually happened relevant to the plot!
  20. What's interesting when talking about morality is that it is based on our experiences, the world we live in... or a infinitismally small portion of Creation. Any of our systems of morality does not take into account responsibilities the creation and maintaining of a Universe would entail... just whatever petty squabbles we have. In other words, our moralities might work great in the immediate world, but applied more broadly they would fail much like Newtonian physics fails on the huge or small spectrum of the Universe. Trying to contemplate the motives of a God would be like an amoeba trying to contemplate the motives of a lumberjack. The world both inhabit are so different, the inherent hardware to observe and interact with the world so divergent, that the amoeba could not come even close to getting the size, shape, and personality of the lumberjack to be accurate. That's how I view it, anyway. God would not necessarily be beyond Good and Evil, but it's certainly beyond human good and evil.
  21. Well, because Superman destroyed Metropolis so all the other heros are a bit freaked out by that... is what I've heard. Also, there's more! Not only will there be Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Cyborg... but for this offer only, we have the Flash! That's right folks, the Flash! And if you call in the next fifteen minutes, you'll get one more un-specified superhero!
  22. I don't believe you.
  23. The Diagram is probably pretty accurate so long as it is followed to a "t", as they say. The problem is that it is so complex, and beyond normal human understanding that its complete meaning was probably lost. They can only follow the Diagram as well as they understand it, and each deviation will cost them dearly in the long run (off the top of my head, two major deviations that will work massively against the Diagram are Dalinar still being alive and Szeth being free from his oaths). Without the Diagram being updated, it will become useless with enough accumulation of deviations. It would appear the biggest flaw of the Diagram is the lack of a contingency plan.
