The "Ancient Civilizations being better trope" probably evolved from a Garden of Eden/Atlantis mentality... the idea that at the beginning was Paradise until something tragedy (usually human-caused) happens to ruin everything for everyone. It's a backwards facing trope unlike the "Utopia" trope which assumes as time goes on, civilization will be better and improve. Auden wrote an essay on this that I've read a part of but can not find...grrrr... -
Having a Bad Day? Stop here for a Good Rant!

That's a bit of an understatement, I believe I'll comment on the previous page post about avoiding uncomfortable physical conduct since I've had such experiences (why do people insist on invading the personal space of others?): After a few instants of yelling things like "Get thee behind me, Satan!" and punching someone in the face, people get the picture Mileage may vary -
Great, you reminded me of the scene with Shallan and the...witty person. I'm going to find some onions before someone suspects the sobs have a different origin!

No rudeness observed, if your parents were more reasonable then that's great! The problem is that some parents believe in a "preventative" strategy (You must avoid the interwebz, R-rated movies, and comic books!) instead of an adaptive strategy (ok, the Internet has a lot of good and bad things... here's how to use it, if such-and-such happens, do 'x' and get me). The former tends to lead to a more... authoritative parenting.

I agree with Twi, saying you need privacy is pretty much saying you're checking hard-core pornography. I shall offer up the following advice: if it becomes an issue, explain that the 17th Shard is a family-friendly site. You could probably also show him the site rules, and he should be fine, if reluctantly so. Aside from that, like Lark was saying, it could be mostly for the brother. Assume that is so until otherwise, no need to borrow trouble. Now, in your anxiety you may find whispers that such monitoring can be worked around. They can, but don't even try it. You really have nothing to hide, anyway, so acting like you do is only going to raise suspicion.

If all one can say against you is "You just wanted to hate it!" you've won and they have lost. If something is genuinely good and interesting to you, it does not matter how much you want to hate it, your hate will eventually be over come. I'm of course specifically talking about Bruno Mars' Uptown Funk. I want to hate that song sooooo much, but it keeps on weakening my resolve... if it wasn't for my friends overplaying/oversinging it, the hate would have all ready been killed.

I also think the idea of "compatibility" is an over-used trope -
Correct, and though Adolin could still end up being a Radiant, I doubt he'll be the "viewpoint Dustbringer". Then again, Adolin could just continue being Adolin which would also be just fine in my humble opinion. Not everyone needs to be a Radiant.

Be doing that soon, but not immediately. This week I bought a bunch of Magnus Robot Fighter comics.

Sadeas coughs up blood, "Adolin, come closer... I must tell you something *cough* before I die. I'm you from the future, a future where Kaladin shipped with Shallan and caused the destruction of Roshar... and my heart *coughcoughhackblood* I had to travel back in time... be an cremhole and force you...me... to make the right choice...now, I can die in peace...." *expires* -

Or, similarly, The Protagonist and Villain are fighting TO THE DEATH, when the Villain slips on a banana peel and is now hanging on for dear life on the edge of a PRECIPICE OF DEATH. The Protagonist, being so darn pure, says something along the lines of "Take my hand!" because all of a sudden, he's concerned with the Villain's mortality, when the Villain decides, "No, I'm going to somehow try to kill you from this position! Whoops, I lost my grip and caused my own death, thus absolving the Protagonist of any responsibility in such an unsavoury action as killing the clearly evil bad guy!" -

My pet peeve is when readers decide to show how cultured they are by criticizing a work for using "deus ex machina". -
At this point, I think the best we can hope for is that it will be "all right". They just seem to be trying too hard to make an "edgy" Harley Quinn and Joker... rendering Harley as being boring and the Joker ridiculous. I mean, the first thing I thought when I heard the "Joker laugh" was "hey, I didn't know the Penguin was in this film!" And the Joker's line was too formulaic (much like Batman's "Do you bleed?" line), it's the sort of thing placed in the script to show the audience that the Joker is menacing but does not actually convey menace... mainly because you are finishing the line in your head before the actor does. Over-all: it'll probably be better than I previously thought, but I'm still not excited about it.

Essentially, I'm attaching myself/my problems to an existing conversation. The idea comes from the verb "piggybacking" which looks like this: You might see parents carrying their children in this manner (on their backs) from time to time. -

Twi does not care about a goat's consent. Twi is wrong for goats, and wrong for America. Hi, I'm Orlion, and I believe in traditional values, like that goats deserve to be free from the tyranny of an uncovered safe-hand and grilled hot dogs covered in nacho cheese and jalapenos. Paid for by the Goat Union of Missouri.
