  1. To quote the greatest Doctor: "It's entirely due to my influence, of course, you mustn't take any credit."
  2. In the immortal words of an inbred Maine hick: "Don't go down that road, there's history down that road." You have plenty of resources to help you take care of the pug, what would be needed are monetary funds, patience, endurance, and love. Presumably you'll choose a main vet that will help you diagnose and keep the critter healthy and alive. You can also ask for certain symptoms to look out for that are clearly indicative of a concern. Most of the time, though, you'll probably be fussing over an upset tummy or things of that nature. Consulting with the vet, be sure to identify backup vets and a credible animal hospital. This does not mean you will use them, but as an ol' science fiction writer said in arguably his most racist novel: "Hope for peace, prepare for war!" Other than that, you got a lot of the day-to-day experience of pug upkeep in check. You should be fine, just remember: with vets you aren't doing this alone.
  3. I all ready have it from the anthology Dangerous Women Though if it's being released as a hard copy, I should pre-order that, since that anthology is a monster and I do not really care about anything else in it.
  4. A-Ha! You know, just getting into the Not trying to
  5. "Don't you wonder sometimes...'bout sound and vision?"

  6. If you call it Stormy, it will have its own "Classics" *guffaw* theme song!
  7. Random Stuff. What's your favorite pizza topping?
  8. Cygnus, home of Cygnus X-1! What's your favourite song?
  9. Yeah, we actually ran into that problem with our cat. We found/rescued him around Halloween so we named him Spook. Once the father found out and realized the problematic nature of that name, he added a "y" to the name: Spooky. The intent was preserved, and the potentially offensive problem averted!
  10. For your Pug Fund: Do not use Kickstarter, I'm fairly certain that's against the usage policy. IndieGoGo may be better, but GoFundMe seems to be the platform best suited for this kind of thing. My main concern, though, is outlined above. Another, more private method would be to open up a PayPal account. Get a new e-mail just for that, people here or on other social sites who want to donate can PM you, get the e-mail, and just send you the money. This could also be used for other reasons, eBay, Amazon, etc. and I think would be easier to set up. And, there are no filthy usage policies!* *Warning, PayPal still has filthy usage policies.
  11. Or one of the best jokes ever!
  12. You probably did fine, and if nothing else... you just got some real world interview practicing!
  13. Hey, I've read this series! As you've said, this is weird! Which happened to be what I was looking for... something with cosmic horror without all the...garbage... a lot of modern Lovecraftian writers (that I've read) seem to add. As was mentioned, there are plenty of elements to make one think of Lost, and a friend of mine pointed out another island-fantasy it is like: Myst. I'll respond to individual things as I have time and refresh myself on the story, and I'll also try to locate a response I have used to "explain" the mystery of Area X. Saul certainly transformed into the Crawler in the tower/tunnel, though I am not certain about the tower/tunnel itself. Like you said, it is certainly possible, and a connection does exist, but I wonder if it could be the result of something, maybe the original alien object, burrowing into the ground. I'm spitballing right now, so we might end up coming to a different conclusion as the discussion continues. I have a more...chilling? interpretation of the end. The anomaly is still loose on the Earth, the change that Control effected on it, however, made it less deadly, it's something that humans can adapt to now, but I think it is still going to change the environment about it. And I found my previous comment: Woo! I'll add more as I remember more.
  14. I believe Szeth's importance is as an antagonist, as an obstacle for other characters. I do not want him to be "redeemed" and sing kombuyya with the newly formed Knights Radiants, I want him to continue to be a foil! A protagonist is about as good as the challenges he faces, and once those challenges are resolved... what good is the protagonist? Szeth is an important character, so long as he continues down this road. The Diagram pretty much said, "Hey, make sure he does not escape being Truthless, or you can kiss your chull goodbye!" I'd like to see why that is, how such a frightening opponent that has all ready thrown the civilized world into chaos can possibly be worse! Makes me sad that his flashbacks won't appear until book 5, but I'll live, somehow.
  15. Time will move slower/speed up based on how you travel through space, but that does not change the direction of Time's Arrow.
  16. The other issue seems to be that Odium's intent is simple and destructive. It's hatred, and from this hatred I imagine there's a sort of contempt for all life and the other Shards. Odium is driven to punish, destroy, and lash out at all creation which is bad enough, but there is one more deadly component to this: Odium is also calculating. It knows that, at least initially, all the Shards are equal in power. It knows that if it is to make the Cosmere its universal vessel of eternal wrath, it has to prevent the other Shards from joining forces and coming after it. We currently do not see anything else quite like it in the Cosmere. Those two characteristics, I believe, would alone account for Odium being the most dangerous Shard.
  17. Correct, it also looks like Hoid also does it on purpose sometimes, alike when he asked Dalinar what he knew about Adonalsium.
  18. "Equal but different" is a troubling phrase to me. It calls to mind the "separate but equal" legal philosophy of Jim Crow days. Invariably, one tends to focus on the "different" part at the expense of the "equal", mainly because it provides an "excuse" and a flimsy one at that.
  19. Pretty much what Kobold said. It's work, but if you keep at it you'll be fine. Don't worry about specifics unless you have to (you almost never do). And think about it, there'll be time enough at last to read! All the time in the world! All the books you'd ever want! All the books you need! Well, until your glasses break...
  20. Johnny was a chemist's son; But Johnny is no more What Johnny thought was H2O was H2SO4.
  21. And the sad thing is that somebody will probably be me
  22. Just finished Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin. An excellent read and also heartbreaking.
  23. Outside of the Random Fact thread?! What sort of black magic is this?!
