Religion and magic---are they inextricably linked?
natc replied to Sol Invictus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oh, I agree. They could do without worship. I'm just saying that Jasnah had a tendency to undersell the importance and power of non-god entities since she admittedly doesn't have a reason to do otherwise yet. Spren are her only available model for such things and she had not met one that can actually do things when that opinion was formed. Spren and shards are quite far removed from each other on the power scale. Her opinion is probably a tad different now. -
Then we should suspect Threnody instead! Also, Wax totally just scared off a bunch of armed thugs by posing like an idiot. I guess having a thing worked out. Doing the thing has never been funnier.

From now on I'll think of the Roughs and how Wax met Lessie when I see giraffes. -
It's just the Aon Ene no? Not that I can pronounce that either.

Does Kaladin have a choice to do the wrong thing?

That would demand a proper trial and execution though, unless it's that much of an emergency and the guy tries to make a run for it. Or in Nalan's case in Azir, enough paperwork. Here they just want to replace the guards then run him through with a shardblade while he's drunk. -

She doesn't actually deny that something probably existed that spawned the religion. She just hates the notion of worshipping the thing, and in her usual scholarly attempts at just making the assumption that the simplest answer is likely true dismisses just how powerful this being once called Honor in ancient times (now the Almighty) could potentially be. As she does with Cultivation and the master of the Voidbringers. She does at least believe these beings are legit. She just underestimates them due to lack of data pointing otherwise. In a way, she's right, but also so very wrong. Oh, and while the resurrecting god thing might be common on Earth, this isn't the case here. Shards stay kaput when they go kaput. They are still technically people, and as anime will gladly inform you, people die when they are killed. -

She makes mention of skybreakers in reference to him bringing up justice, but I find it ironic that a skybreaker would likely lose his powers in this setup as well, since assassination of a king is clearly illegal. -
World misconceptions that are difficult to shift.

Coming from reading the newly released Shadows of Self prologue I now have a new one. I always thought of Weathering as a town out of an old western movie. Which the town itself and the vibe the man-made parts give off actually are to the T, but the actual environment appears to actually be a savannah complete with lions, giraffes, and acacia trees. -
Finished it. That's one way to meet your wife. So the Roughs is still basically the Old West culturally speaking, except it's actually Africa. Huh.

But he isn't articulate Not good enough.

It's a mystery that is meant to be revealed, and for now RAFO'd. I do believe I once saw a WoB that the royal locks work off of a divine breath fragment inherited by the bloodline in a similar mechanism to Returned pseudo-shapeshifting.

So that would be Listeners/Parshendi, Aimians, Dragons, and that other thing. Did I miss anything?

While we know that the decay exists across Sel, the only time we witness a system being used over a drastic shift in distance is with AonDor, which had been continually boosted by the Elantrian Aon prior for the entire duration of it being at full strength from Raoden's POV. Even then, while he can't teleport the entire distance back into Elantris that he did away from it, the others could still make decent fireballs and such. Everything still points to ChayShan being overpowered really (he could already do that much), but the booster's effects on AonDor probably decay even more noticeably than AonDor itself, especially considering that they're only just across the ocean. Jindo would actually be closer if that map on the coppermind Sel page is scaled properly. Elantrian AonDor is likely far beyond the natural potency of AonDor.

It takes as little as showing up to the Americas with a caucasian complexion and strange technology for people to assume you are divine. Having magic powers probably helps cement that assumption. -
Vin was also rather strong for a modern mistborn, not as strong as a lerasium mistborn but still above average, so that tiny bit left in the spike might indeed be enough. If only we knew if a lerasium mistborn/lerasium-made Seeker like Elend can pierce a modern-strength coppercloud. Or a weaker seeker with a similarly decayed spike. Then we can work out how strong that bottomed-out charge can be expected to be. A soother or rioter spike would make for great data too.

Yes. MeLaan. We can't exactly let TenSoon do all the dirty work in AoL.

Because it makes no sense to use anything but an earing? Nobody but the crazies would follow a religion that requires stabbing yourself in the heart or eye socket or whatever, and Sazed wouldn't approve anyway.

Funniest Scenes in Stormlight Archive (so far)
natc replied to Tetriona's topic in Stormlight Archive
That last bit would probably be funnier if donkeys existed on Roshar, but he was stuck with chull sass. Sadly. -
Stormlight: Money is power.

Is it some form of greatshell? Greatshells can hold stormlight. Probably.

Well, I own a ponyta and a blitzle. Can I befriend both sides?

Having recalled the intro of Kungfu Panda, I just realized that that scene is a literal moment of being so badass that you blind all of your enemies through overexposure to pure awesomeness. It's almost as stunning as what it would look like for a god king's worth of breath to all be put into one person all at once. Except it's blindingly bright instead of colorful, but the room not being lit afterwards it has to be about that stunning witnessing that shockwave of raw power exploding out of a guy. This is the power of creation we're talking about here, for crying out loud.

A spambot is a bot that spams people. Obviously -
That's probably Red honestly. Ash doesn't actually exist.

Frost, huh. Well, it's not the geographic north pole anymore, so it must be from the well itself or the Ruin-Mist. Stormlight frosts things over too, so this is interesting . . .
