  1. Hold on a second. I'm double checking your American seasons, but... isn't February technically Spring anyway? So in reality, the date wasn't so much moved up as honed in on a better-than-it-could-have-been date.
  2. Okay. I was browsing through the Coppermind when something clicked in my head. I present to you, Exhibit A: HoA major spoilers: Exhibit B: HoA major spoilers and AoL very minor spoilers: I propose that the 2 are in fact the same thing. Why would Brandon have two nearly identical objects in the same series unless it were the same thing? Comments?
  3. These. are. amazing. You should get Chaos to add them into the 17th Shard emoticons bank.
  4. As has been mentioned, the footprints are part of the alternate entry. In the actual book, Hoid is the leader of the Terris refugees that Elend meets on his way back to Luthadel. (I think. I don't have the book with me.)
  5. TWG was the fansite for Brandon Sanderson before the 17th Shard. Then it got hacked by spambots, and Chaos used the opportunity to make a new fansite (consequently, bringing the whole thing up to date), rather than fixing the old, outdated one. However, as there are lots of old WoB's in there, and a heap of other stuff as well, a read-only version is kept for reference.

  7. There's already a post about this here, if you're interested.
  8. I have no idea why, but there seems to be a spambot that's managed to post on January 24 in the TWG. In fact, since the sites closure, there appear to have been 71 more posts made. Judging by the fact that it took six months for anyone to notice, I don't think it's a major issue, but I find it incredible to see the lengths the spambots will go to to set up spam files in a dead forum which nobody reads anymore. In fact, if you look at the posts made, they were actually in the 'Suggestion Box' section, which is possibly the least looked at section, seeing is there is nothing relevant there anymore. For reference, here is the offending spambot. I'll leave it up to you what you decide to do with it. I was only trying to look up an old Brandon response when a scrolled down to the 'Recent Posts' section, saw the date, and was rather surprised...
  9. Going away. I won't be back. Slightly gruesome:
  10. Hello everyone. I'm thinking of joining the Salem RP. This is my character. (If I get more time later, I might make a second one.) Insert really cool name here. I'll work it out eventually. He has 2 minor Epic powers. Both are space/density related. His first Epic power was based off something I did years ago, when I was sick and tired of transportation magics always being either super speed and teleportation. So I created a third kind. Bear with me. Imagine the world as though it were some kind of rubber band. This person has the power to either stretch that rubber band out, extending a single centimetre of ground so it can run for miles, or shrink it, in which case miles of land can be squished into a few centimetres. After he stops concentrating, the ground returns to it's normal size. People can be squished/expanded in this way, but it does no harm to them. In this way, he can do a number of handy things. He carries a pistol, and can shrink the distance between him and his target so he can shoot the victim at point-blank range. He can also travel long distances in a few steps, squishing the ground as nescessary. If this doesn't make sense to you, I'll try and find a better way of explaining it. Thankfully, the second one is a lot simpler. He has the power to change the size and density of the object. The smaller the size, the denser the object. However, similar to the last one, he needs to be deliberately focusing on it to make it work. Stop focusing on it, it goes back to normal. If a liquid is condensed enough, it becomes a solid. If it's expanded out enough, it becomes a gas. It works to a lesser extent on living things, but it takes more willpower to do the same thing as conscious beings are somehow semi-resistant. (That's not a weakness, by the way, just a limitation.) Just a quick clarification. Is there anything wrong with this? Is it too complex?
  11. You've clearly read the Final Empire and WoA (Well of Ascension), what else have you read?
  12. I'm sure most of you will have seen the following comment time and time again. I'm new to Sanderson. I'm thinking about reading on of Sanderson's Cosmere novels, but I don't know where to start. This post is for them. Some bright spark in the Discworld community had a similar idea. They made a sheet (shown above) which has a sort of reading guide of what you should read first. It's by no means completely linear, but it helps. So, I'm trying to organise something similar to be made. I have done a basic map of what cosmere books should be read first, though it is by no means final. From there, we can finalize it/ make it look fancy. So hear it is. Version 0.1. EDIT: Thanks to navybrandt, we now have an awesome version 1.0. Thanks! Image below.
  13. Have you done any wordbuilding yet? It might be useful to know the world your characters will be in before you make any locked decisions. E.g. Brandon Sanderson made emeralds the most valuable gem, as they can be Soulcast into food.
  14. Welcome to the 17th Shard, Deimos! Have an upvote! And yes, that was his original plan, but he seems to have changed it. Also, a note on the title. WoR spoiler:
  15. I side with maxal in introducing anonymous justification for why a downvote was made. If it was an accident (which apparently can be reversed in the new version of the site, according to Chaos), then there's no problem. In fact, the justification 'step' in giving a downvote might give the accidental downvoter an oppurtunity to go back and prevent it from occuring. If it is intentional, then they should have the courtesy to say why. The only problem I can see with an anonymous system is recieving messages like "I'm downvoting you because I hate you, I think you're miserable, and you should never have been born." However, I don't think anyone would do that on this forum.
  16. 3 days left, and only 100 votes. I don't think that your friend is going to make it unless a LOT more people help.
  17. Back to mathematics. Adapting Zeno's Arrow Paradox to calculus. Assume that instead of two infinitely close points in time, you have two infinitely close points on a line (which is what modern calculus is based on). Assuming Zeno's Paradox is correct, that makes calculus impossible. P.S. Yes, this is a blatant attempt to pay back maths professors for giving me all those headaches in high school.
  18. OK. I'll try and pan this current arc to a close to be ready for it. Just one quick question. Is it allowed for a character to have his/her own agenda that isn't revealed here first? I need to know for future.
  19. Regarding your religion. (I must say, I do find some of the more obscure religions fascinating from an objective point of view. If you find anything too prying or insulting though, then feel free not to answer.) It sounds interesting the way that you phrased your earlier post. You made it sound like human consciousness in a way... created the entity of the God. Is this what you're trying to say, or did I misunderstand your post? If this is the case, then what do you believe regarding the very beginning of Creation, before there was human consciousness to make gods in the first place?
  20. Quiver, Your 17th Sharder's AMA idea seems to have gone viral. What is your opinion on this?
  21. Lorn: I think this is taking too long. If any of you want to get involved somehow, it might be handy. Also, it might give Rend and Lorn an idea to go to the pottery exhibit.
