  1. Well, I suppose it all depends on what they're going for with what they've created. If they are genuinely looking for a realistic version that stick to the myths perfectly, then yes, they are complete and total idiots for not doing their job properly. However, if they're after a mainstream entertainment loosely based on the Egyptian myths (which is what I think this is, not having seen it), then they might prefer to just use the more common naming conventions that everyone that isn't a Kemetic Pagan or a complete and total nerd would know, and leave it there.
  2. Can I see this website, Twi. I have trouble comprehending the sheer idiocy and would like to see this for myself. EDIT: On a completely different topic, does this website have comments enabled?
  3. Mestiv, have you seen this? I thought you might be interested. (Polish Sanderson fansite.) So, why can't you get an offer letter with a proviso on it that you pass the drug test? I don't really get why. If that's the reason why they can't give offer letters out, then it is so easily fixed.
  4. Honor Spren's mother is the other immediate one that comes to mind, mainly because I happened to be reading the Introduction Boards at the time.
  5. So it's not just my school. Good to know. There's a joke going round at the minute that was altered from the Deputy's speech: If you put fifty percent in, you get fifty percent back. If you put 90 percent in, you get 90 percent back. If you put 100 percent in... you get 99.95 percent back. (Americans who don't get this, don't worry. It's an Australian thing.)
  6. Why do so many people have parents on this forum? I would be mortally embarrassed if one of my parents ever joined. I think I'm safe though - they don't read epic fantasy. No offense, Queen Mother.
  7. Not anymore. I'd never thought about it before, though. EDIT: WHAT? Kobold's mother is on the forum? I am simultaneously amused by this and feeling sympathy for him.
  8. He's said something about going to Australia in 2017, so I'm holding out for that. General questions about signings - how many questions are you allowed to ask generally speaking?
  9. The second. And, can I just say, from an Australian perspective, it sounds like you're describing slave labour when you describe your working conditions. In Australia, you have maximum 8 hour shifts, the minimum wage, a decent time of (paid) sick leave in addition to vacation, etc. Moral of the story? Come live in... just about anywhere but America. It sounds really screwed up there (no offence.)
  10. Well, I know that you need a 'police check' (checking you've never been in prison or been declared as insane) before working with children in Australia. We have more of a roadside Random Breath Testing by way of stopping drug users.
  11. On the parents front, we had a Year 11 information evening tonight. The advice is sound, and I generally try to listen to it. The only flaw is that my parents came along. My parents have a tendency to take just the bits that fit their arguments out of the speech (either the bits that make students a.k.a. me look bad or the bits that sound like the came out of a prison scheme) and throw out the rest. So, if she references her part of the speech and expects me to accept it because it came 'from a person who's been doing this for years' (despite the fact that she didn't mean what my parents seem to think she meant.) Then, if I reference a different part of the same speech suddenly it's silly. "Real life doesn't work like that" is a particular favourite. Yeah, I get it Mum. But, the whole 'emulating real/adult life thing' is only used when I make a suggestion. If one of her arguments has the same flaw, suddenly it's "Tough. We bring the money into this household. You could show a bit of respect." Re. Doctor Who: Libraries and TV reruns are always valid options. At the end of the day, if you really can't find one of those options, there's always torrents...
  12. So, for those that don't keep an eye on Brandon's Twitter feed, apparently he's due to make a 'Twitter Chat' 4pm (ET Time Zone/UTC-5) on the 4th of February (tomorrow at the time of this post). Hope to see you all there! If you have no idea what to ask him, I would recommend checking out the Ultimate List of Questions to ask Brandon. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: To get your question answered, you must use the hashtag #SandersonChat. EDIT: I didn't see that the topic already existed here. Unofficially closing this topic in favour of that one.
  13. What would your reaction be if Chaos turned out to be the Intent of a Shard?
  14. Maybe the Dark Alley attacked him and spiked him for rep.
  15. I... think I might accidentally have converted my English Extension teacher to Sanderson. As an Icebreaker question, we were asked about the last non-prescribed text we read, and I basically started raving about Mistborn Era 2. And she said she's curious and would be interested in reading it. Huh.
  16. Possible. But, it strikes me as a bit too obvious that to Shatter Adonalsium you need... another Adonalsium. I think we have a WoB in your favor that says that Dominion, Devotion, etc. were shattered in the same way as Adonalsium, just in a smaller way. But, seeing as we don't know exactly how Dominion and Devotion were shattered beyond Odium causing it, we can't say that much for certain.
  17. Timeline of Hoid's (significant) names: Midius (real name) Topaz Hoid Wit He must have used Cephandrius while on Yolen, so sometime between Midius and Hoid. No saying more than that, though.
  18. Yeah. I did this a couple months ago. I was about halfway between ThirdGen and Twi. Knowing that a few of my colleagues consider me extreme, (in Australia, too, a far more left wing society) I can't help wondering what ThirdGen is like politically. Also, finished Bands in 2 sittings. 22/10 (with a few pugs thrown in). Relevant: One of the things we're studying in English class is "Of Mice and Men" by Steinbeck, and "American Beauty". In short, both are about the American dream. If you look at the so-called American Dream, it's actually quite a centre-left wing sentiment. (I say so-called because people have always had this particular notion. It's only recently that the Americans came along and decided that they invented the thing.) So, many people like to imagine they are fair, kind and good people, hence they follow the American Dream, they don't discriminate, yadda yadda. In reality, they tend to more than they like to admit. (Occasionally, you get those who don't even bother to pretend. Listen to Trump talking about how he would "bomb the This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules out of Syria and take their oil".) TL;DR: People are fond of pretending to be left wing.
  19. A short while ago, I was browsing another Wikimedia forum, and I found a spoiler tag. After a short time of investigating, I found this. It's allows spoiler tags to be used on the Coppermind. I, personally would be in favour of this. It can prevent other awkward work-arounds. Very tangential SoS spoilers: It also means that we might be able to spoiler some of the older books major twists as well. Warbreaker Spoilers: So, are spoiler tags on the Coppermind a viable option? Is there any reason not to have them, seeing as they're already Wikimedia software?
  20. Was ist los? (See? I can do this speaking in other languages too. If it's German, I don't even have to look it up on Google Translate! Well, sometimes, at least...)
  21. No spoilers. If there were, gaskets would blow.
  22. The problem with unspecific OP's and simultaneously released books. Which one did you mean, Sorin? Bands or Secret History?
  23. Isn't it also the Starbelt from Threnody? Source Taln's Scar hasn't really been associated with the Starbelt before, but it could well be. Did Threnody specify the colour of the Starbelt?
  24. I have the Bands of Mourning! (and my temporary credit card for whenever Secret History makes it to Amazon.) 100% spoiler free opinions of just the prologue: Interesting contrast. Makes me wonder what the Lost Metal prologue will show.
