The Bands of Mourning Review (Spoiler-free)
Young Bard commented on WeiryWriter's article in Brandon and Book News
To be perfectly honest, I would be more curious to see reviews of non-Brandon books. With Bands, you get an attempt to try to put pure awesomeness into words (and do a better job of it than I could). But, seeing as this is a Brandon fansite, we're all basically going to read it regardless of what is said here. What I would be interested in seeing is a : If you enjoyed Sanderson, you're going to love this. It's called The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks.. etc. Please note: This is just a suggestion. Feel free to take or leave anything said here. TL;DR: Non-Sanderson reviews would be fun and interesting.- 11 comments

Random Stuff VI The Return of the Admins
Young Bard replied to Zathoth's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
As someone who doesn't go on DeviantArt very much, I'm trying to find this 'secondary house' gizmo, and am failing miserably. Can someone post a link. On a separate note, I'm still trying to finish that Secret Santa project, but it's defying every attempt. If I don't have it completed by the end of January, I'll use Seonid's trick and start making it serialized. I am really sorry about that. -
Reading Excuses has a larger group than that. This way it's closer and people are more likely to read the whole story. As the OP says, Brandon's has recommended a smaller group. I wouldn't mind being part of it, except for the fact that I tend to write (and read) somewhat sporadically. I've been trying to make writing a more regular habit in my timetable, though, so this might work as a sort of incentive to get the words down. One question. How would you correspond with the other members of the group?

Am I the only one who considered a Marasi possibly siding with (or, at the very least, considering siding with) Autonomy? That's what the foreshadowy scene about standing in Wax's shadow seemed to represent in my mind. That being said, I would like to think that Autonomy is not a 'bad guy'. As a libertarian socialist, I disagree that a lack of order is necessarily a bad thing. To prevent the thread getting clogged with my political beliefs, I will be happy to answer any questions via PM. (Or, I might start up an AMA.) While Brandon didn't make Ruin 'evil', he still filled that role in the original trilogy, and I hope Autonomy doesn't do that here.

Random Stuff VI The Return of the Admins

No buttons & regularly sized pillows. No cliffs in sight. Casually tossed from a couple feet away (with notice) in a not-in-any-way savage manner. And yet, somehow she's been "hurt" by this. I think she may have Munchausen syndrome, but it would take a miracle and a half to convince her to be tested. EDIT: I'm not just saying this because of one incident. This is a relatively small thing compared with so many other events that I could name. -
Random Stuff VI The Return of the Admins

Cycle of parenthood: Parents have a child. Parents proceed to drive child crazy. Child grows up, now completely insane. New adult has kids, and with their bitter insanity, proceed to drive their kids insane. A vicious cycle. Unofficial poll: Can you hurt someone by tossing a pillow at them. So far as I am aware the total tally would add up to 7 billion saying no, and 1 saying yes. And that one attempts to find any excuse - plausible or otherwise - to milk every scrap of sympathy from those around her. Just my luck that I live with with her. -
Sand + Aether, or seperate? I'm like Pagerunner - I was waiting for the graphic novels to read Sand.

Random Stuff VI The Return of the Admins

Yeah... I have a new theory. Twi's mother and mine are in reality the same interdimensional demonic demons, created to terrorize the lives of sane and reasonable people in an attempt to bring them down into madness. My mother has said almost the exact same thing to me. To be fair, my dad worked as a nurse in the 1980's. Apparently, a few of the cheaper, dodgier vaccines then had a couple shady ingredients that made people sick. But to have that influence your decision 20 years later... It's a bit like saying: I'm never getting in a car. Car's have crashed in the past. I'm never going outside. People have been struck by lightning when they've gone outside. I'm never staying inside. Ceilings have collapsed and killed people when they stay inside. My parents (mainly my mother) and I have had consistent arguments about this over the years. GM crops too, they always seem to find a way to work it in there as well. Because clearly any form of human progress is likely to cause the end of the whole bloody human race. My emotions right now: -

Fluent llamas approach babbling baboons eating regretful grapes as silly tramps eat dates. *you brought this upon yourself* SZETHSONSONVALLANOTRUTHLESSOFSHINOVARWOREWHITEONTHEDAYHEWASTOKILLAKING (and yes I know that wasn't the literal quote. i was trying to make it harder. It's still easier than some of Winter's.)

I got a message a couple days ago when I tried looking up an old Coppermind reference in the TWG yesterday. So, I moved on, and tried coming back to it today. Same message. Is the TWG updated forum coming soonTM, or is there an issue?

iirc it is Option B (from experience.) Current server time is Utah Time, I believe. According to Google, that's GMT-7. Completely off-topic technical question time: Why can you see who voted for what on some threads, but not on others? (In other words, how does one go about changing this? Is it just a mod thing?)

Random Stuff VI The Return of the Admins

The tip for this is knowing what will encourage you. For example, some people will be more courageous if they plan it out meticulously beforehand to the nth degree. (Looking at you, Steris.) Others will be more comfortable just winging it and seeing how it goes. I don't know which type you are. It could be either. But either way, I wish you the best of luck. -

Is Mistborn: Birthright ever gonna happen?
Young Bard replied to KaladinStormblessed's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I was wondering about this. They've had an annual tradition around the Christmas period to make a post in which they apologize about delays. They didn't even have that this year. Does anybody know when the rights run out?- 8 replies

Everybody sign the petition to name element 117 "Octarine"! (R.I.P Terry Pratchett.) Actually, is there a discussion on the Shard yet for the Shepherd's Crown? I haven't read it yet, but I've been meaning to. Probably after Calamity. -
(If you think I've gotten an argument wrong, please explain and I will edit this.) Summary for those who can't be bothered reading through the whole thing: People who are for the reduction of / removal of reputation points say: - "You used to be able to judge how cosmere aware / thoughtful a person was by the amount of reputation they had. You can't anymore" - "People grow too attached to these imaginary numbers, which leads to reputation abuse." - "The current way the system is wired encourages people to post memes and jokes for quick rewards rather than theories." - "The current system is biased towards the social community as opposed to the theory making community." People who are against the removal / a severe reduction of reputation points say: - "Reputation is a way of showing appreciation. There shouldn't be a limit on how much appreciation you can show." - "If you remove reputation, people might start clogging the boards with comments such as "Nice", or "Upvote!", reducing readability." - "It should be up to the people to decide what's upvote worthy. If they decide that that's a meme or joke, then trying to prevent that is unfair and slightly elitist." (I know I've missed arguments. If you feel there's something else I should say, then tell me, and I'll add it on.)

Am I the only one who actually feels sorry - and embarassed - for Steris at Wax discovering her reading material? Now I think of it, it does seem like Steris, but still...
