  1. could he now? push on silverware you say???
  2. Gotta Necro this...there is a WoB out there (that I haven't been able to find) about copper compounding that doesn't specifically say what it does...but simply states that it doesn't do exactly what you'd think it would. My pet theory is that compounding copper makes memories that are not only permanent...but are immune to Ruin's manipulation...
  3. damnation...beat me to it! Ah well...have an upvote for being able to quote douglas adams...
  4. I'm wondering if the talking metal tools has something to do with the "metallic beings" mentioned in the allomancer jak story...\ btw...good catch on the K and N...I did not notice this...
  5. Your guess is as good as mine... In context, it feels like a she...and possible a past romantic interest. Other than that...I would guess not a worldhopper...
  6. What do you suppose a super powered cosmic entity would need genitals for??? Assuming there would be a reason...how crappy is it that one of the most powerful beings in the cosmere can't get his junk to grow back? I would feel ripped off...
  7. from far aways you barely notice it...but when it hits your ear it's awful... a new cosmere novel is like your x-mas bonus check...
  8. Why did the Scadrian bartender hate serving allomancers? They're always sneaking in their own flasks of alcohol.
  9. ...or Wayne getting into a drinking / belching contest with his foot???
  10. By the way...I've just been dolling out upvotes for participating in the discussion...because all of these ideas are great...and I'm just happy that people are participating in the discussion! too bad the cap on upvotes is so small now...
  11. All this from "banana"...it's amazing how the shard works... ...I'm so happy to have found another group of people as inclined toward randomly wandering tangents as me. Thanks guys (and girls)!!!
  12. I've seen this idea on the forum before...and I think it makes a lot of sense. (especially when supported by a positive WoB) Assuming that this is true...what I'm curious about is this...does this mean that every piece of shard plate in the world is essentially a dead "lesser" spren. And the reason that knights radiant don't have a bad reaction to touching them is simply that they don't matter that much?
  13. Sorry to pull the conversation in a different direction...but has anyone ever seen the anime Parasyte? That being said...I wonder if a kandra could actually form a kind of symbiosis with someone who was fatally injured in order to keep them alive for a while.
  14. you know...I've been wondering about this since first reading mistborn years ago. Kelsier makes a big deal about being sure to use the right alloy for allomancy...but Sazed doesn't think twice about storing things like weight and speed in random pieces of metal...and it seems to work just fine. While I have zero evidence to back this up...I've assumed that the danger of using the wrong composition of metal for allomancy had to do with what elements would be left unused afterwards. For instance, if you burn the wrong alloy of bronze, you only burn the right composition, and whatever remains (extra tin or nickel) stays behind in your body and makes you sick. But...I'm now realizing that this doesn't really fit...maybe for the "makes you sick part" but certainly not the "instant blinding headache or death part." Probably a lot more complicated and magical than just metal poisoning... It's a good idea though. (yours...not mine)
  15. I hadn't really thought about it much...if I had been paying attention like a good sanderfan should...I may have come to the same conclusion...but considering the events of the story, I think it's safe to say that he is not a kandra. Maybe there is something else going on though...
  16. I don't think it's likely that Szeth bound a spren...he seems REALLY surprised and upset when he sees Kaladin surge binding. That being said...you raise an excellent question. I hadn't really thought of what precipitated Szeth's declaration that caused him to become truthless. (by the way, every time I hear/read truthless I can't help but think of the nightfury from how to train your dragon fighting Kaladin) Thinking back...I don't remember ever being given a hint as to what it might have been.
  17. I'm not suggesting that you employ metallurgy. But if it comes down to being able to use my superpowers or not, I might be willing to say..."Well, I'm pretty sure that this is steel, it seems to be almost identical in weight and appearance to my sample...I'll try a tiny bit and see what happens."
  18. Thanks...but I think your timeline is a little off. Antibiotics, the atomic bomb, color tv, and the microwave oven were all invented in the 1940's. I don't think Scadrial is there quite yet. The wild west-ish time that Alloy of Law seems to resemble is probably closer to the begining of the 1900's. Also...I understand how to quote people...I just forgot how to hide things behind spoiler tags... That being said...I do understand your point. Medical knowledge probably hasn't advanced to a point where they have proven conclusively that tobacco is very bad for your health. However, people have been suggesting that tobacco is bad for your health since the 16 or 1700's...they just didn't have medical evidence to back it up. Seeing as how it's his wife and not his doctor...I feel it's safe to say that she may be trying to push him into healthier habits.
  19. twinborn with a spike...not any 3 powers...gotta have at least one allomancy...sorry On the note of viable metals for allomancy...while it would take some doing...you do have a sample of the perfect metal in your pocket...using some creative problem solving you may be able to figure out how to find/make what you need.
  20. I think it's funny that she's trying to get him to stop smoking...and his immediate response is..."She's going to be the death of me." by the way...anyone give me a quick reminder on how to do spoiler tags?
  21. I think his wife is forcing him to be more health conscious. He opened his cigar case to get a smoke...his cigars were all gone...his wife had left him a note telling him to eat a banana instead...
  22. Ah...it's Canon...so you would either have to find an in world quote that told you...a WoB...or experiment. Some alloys/ compositions work better than others...some make you sick...some can be deadly. But you start off with a pocket full that is perfect.
  23. This was my first thought...upvote...that's all I've got...
  24. So...do we know if TES takes place after Elantris chronologically? If so...it may be a solution to the problem that Hoid has encountered at the end of 10th anniversary edition.

You can also dig up some sample chapters of an unfinished story called "Liar of Partinel" on Brandon's website. I believe that it's going to be book one of DragonSteel. It's a little rough but it will give you a little more information on the most interesting man in the cosmere.
