  1. I think Pattern has been trying to be careful not to shatter all of Shallan's illusions at once. Her Truths have been an inward journey and for the most part, she's needed some time between them to process them after she's suppressed them for so long. It's much like how Dalinar was given his memories of Evi a piece at a time instead of all at once. He was able to process and confront what he did before Odium laid it all on him at once. It was the difference between him becoming Odium's champion and "YOU CANNOT HAVE MY PAIN." When someone's psyche is damaged like this, you don't try to confront everything all at once or they will break. Also, Pattern has tried to tell Shallan stuff but she'll refuse to listen and will basically ignore him and change the topic. So, he just goes along with the lie so they can deal with whatever is at hand rather than make a big deal about it.
  2. This has to be that case or else Ico would never have been able to keep his deadeye in his boat, it wouldn't come back when it's summoned. My understanding of the timeline is as such; Testament was following Shallan up until Shallan got to Urithiru. When Testament caught up to Shallan, the shopkeeper who seems to be close to Urithiru encountered Testament and confined her in his shop. So by the time they have their unexpected Shadesmar adventure in OB, Testament was trapped with the shopkeeper. I suspect one of the reasons Shallan didn't want to Soulcast in the books so far is because she was afraid of seeing Testament and being confronted with the truth of what she did.
  3. Yea, that's pretty much why I asked. It's not a groundbreaking spoiler by any means, but I'm just not sure where the mods would draw that line. I have seen at least one other person in this thread discussing things that likely do cross that line in other threads, so I genuinely didn't know if the spoiler rules had been lifted.
  4. I knew I was forgetting something here. Venli is a failure of a character in my opinion. I feel absolutely nothing for her and can't help but feel her storyline would have been much more interesting if Eshonai were in her place. Moash at least inspires hatred or disgust, but Venli inspires nothing and no one.
  5. I think the interludes in RoW were the weakest as a whole. It definitly has the craziest interlude(Taravangian killing Rayse) but there isn't much that is distinct from the main storylines. Most of the interludes in previous books are from the viewpoint of a person who isn't really close to the main storylines, kind of like a respite from those storylines. But I think every interlude in RoW besides Chiri Chiri was in service of the main story. It's kind of why I think this book fatigued me more than the others. We didn't really get any distance from the dire straits all of the characters are in, it felt like a marathon with no breaks. Edit: After my reread I now realize Taravangian didn't kill Rayse in an interlude, it was all just set up there.
  6. Are we allowed to talk about RoW spoilers in other boards now?
  7. I think one thing that is being overlooked in this thread is her efforts to corrupt The Sibling. Aside from the fact that The Sibling very much did not want to be corrupted and the process seemed painful, the imprisonment of Bah-Ado-Mishram should be a cautionary tale of why not to mess with the powerful spren of Roshar. There could have been serious consequences to changing The Sibling on par with what happened to make the Parshmen. Considering that things on Roshar are already on the knifes edge because of what happened to BAM, it could have been even worse. Also, she only helped Navani against Moash once it was certain she would not be able to finish her work on The Sibling.
  8. Szeth also has experiences with voices of people he killed haunting him. No one really knows anything for certain, but most people on the forums agree that there's something weird going on with the Rosharan afterlife. There is this recent WoB that somewhat touches on this: So, it's possible some people are leaving behind cognitive shadows that some of our various characters hear or they're getting echos from the spiritual realm. It's a topic of in world debate that we aren't likely to get a definitive answer for a while if ever.
  9. There was a forum post on here at some point that theorized that a majority of the spren had to of known about the Knights intending to end their bonds. Maya's moment confirmed that they were complicit in the plans to end 9/10 of the orders, but did not know that they would become deadeyes as a result of the imprisonment of Ba-Ado-Mishram. There is also the fact that Nalan was tasked with or tasked himself with suppressing any attempts by new spren to form bonds with people which he thought for reasons unknown to us, would stop a new desolation from happening.
  10. It's been a bit since I read Dawnshard, but they did say Dustbringers not Dustbringer. I just assumed there was more than one before the Reshi king showed up but they all defer to Malata who is clearly loyal to Taravangian.
  11. I wonder if any of the Dustbringers got caught up in the tower's defenses being turned against Radiants or if Taravangian quietly instructed them to be out of the tower. I can't remember if the book indicated that they were unconscious with the others or not.
  12. Breath on Nalthis is similar to mists/stormlight, it just doesn't leak out of people like it does the others. Voidlight is the closest we've seen to Breath in terms of it not leaving someone's body as quickly as the others. Though because it's from Endowment, it can be easily given unlike the piece of Preservation that humans on Scadrial have to make them sapient. I don't think the Dor is a gaseous form of Investiture, I think Brandon referred to it as plasma stuck in the Cognitive Realm. I think the main difference between Scadrial and Roshar is that Scadrial was created by Ruin and Preservation and their magic systems are built into the planet. Whereas on Roshar, Honor Invested the Highstorm which already existed before he got there. Technically, there are physical manifestations of Honor's Investiture that don't need stormlight to function. Shardblades don't actually require any stormlight to function, though Shardplate does. I think another main difference is the people themselves. Unlike Scadrial, I don't think the humans on Roshar were created by Shards after the Shattering of Adonalsium. They don't have a piece of Honor in them like Scadrians have a piece of Preservation. As far as we know, I don't think they can't just ingest and burn Honor's godmetal to make themselves Surgebinders like Scadrians can with Lerasium to make themselves mistborn(which also flows to any children they have). I think it's also relevant that in both cases of a supernatural weather condition that contains Investiture also involves a dead Shard. In Scadrial's case, Preservation was essentially braindead and the mists were on autopilot. They didn't behave the way the did during Era 1 or Scadrians would never have been able to see the stars. In Roshar's case, Honor was Shattered and the Highstorm which had already been Invested by him seems to have absorbed a decent chunk of his power.
  13. I mean, technically Kaladin did as well. Depending on how whether Moash and Leshwi are at odds over her choice at the end of the book, it could very well be something that brings Kaladin and Leshwi together. I don't think Kaladin would hold much against her with regards to Moash considering Kaladin almost let him kill the king.
  14. I very much feel that Kaladin will be similar to the main cast of Mistborn Era 1 in Mistorn Era 2 for the back half. He'll either be dead or more of a background character. Now, those background characters have important roles, one being the amalgamation of two Shards. But they don't get nearly as much screen time as the main cast of Mistborn Era 2. It's much like how Renarin is a very crucial character in the first half, but we don't really see much from his viewpoint and he's only really there for critical moments. We know Kaladin too well to believe he'll just sit back and not participate in events, so if he's still alive he'd need to be bound by oaths that make him incapable of actively participating or he'll be Ascended in some capacity.
  15. It's not exactly definitive proof, but I think it would be more of a stretch that 9 isn't in some way relevant to Odium than assuming it is. Also, where did Dalinar say that there will be 10 orders of Fused? The only time I recall him commenting on it is when he asserted that there are only 9.
  16. I believe he did know something of his visions at least. He's one of the only ones who didn't doubt Dalinar when it was revealed what was in his visions and he kept trying to unite Sadeas and Dalinar instead of siding with one over the other. He very much wanted a unified Alethkar instead of the civil war they were headed towards. But yea, I doubt he knew much more of Gavilar's plans besides bringing back the Voidbringers.
  17. Not sure about that, but maybe there are large sapient spren that represent various humans' deific perception of the moons.
  18. Yea, I'm with Frustration on this one, I have no recollection of Dalinar seeing singers fighting for the humans. I'm about to get to Oathbringer on my full re-read of the series, so I'll look out for that in particular.
  19. I'm not claiming that's the color associated with that Shard, just that Tanavast and Rayse both use it when representing themselves to mortals. Might be how Adonalsium appeared as well. Could be they all have the same stylist. Though it is exceedingly odd that except Odium, each other Shard's gaseous investiture manifested as the color we are led to associate with that Shard. The Mists are white, Ruin's weird smoke is black, Stormlight is blue/white, and Lifelight is green. Also, not sure what to make of Breath being a rainbow and if there is a specific color associated with Endowment.
  20. Tanavast/Honor appears to Dalinar in gold robes in the only vision where he doesn't speak from the mouth of someone already in the vision. It could be that Rayse kinda copied him to make people associate himself with Honor. Or (Spoilers for Dawnshard):
  21. Didn't Hoid say that Kelsier screwed up the easier of the perpendicularities to access, therefore screwing up an entire trading system? I'm pretty sure worldhoppers were able to come and go somehow through Ruin's perpendicularity during Era 1. Canned food was being traded from Scadrial, I believe Shallan, Kaladin and Adolin had some when they were traversing Shadesmar in OB, which is a bit before the stories we see in Era 2. Along with the fact that Khriss and Nazh are there in the Era 2 books, we can conclude that there's access to a perpendicularity in Northern Scadrial then as well. While it may have been difficult at some times, I don't see how the perpendicularities were completely inaccessible during any period of time except the years before and after Sazed's Ascension. I would say it definitely wasn't public knowledge in Era 0 or there would have been a mass exodus when everyone thought the world was ending. I'd say it's possible a select few Worldbringers(or Feruchemists that weren't associated with them) knew but they didn't spread it around.
  22. Luckspren seem separate from most of the other spren. They're the spren that help greatshells and other creatures grow as large as they do without their own weight crushing them. There's more on them in Dawnshard that I don't believe the forum rules permit me to talk about in this thread. But, I don't think they're one of the spren that form plate and I also doubt whether singers can use them to adopt a new form, they have other purposes. Possibly Smokeform? We haven't seen any smokespren that I'm aware of and I can't think of another spren besides flamespren that would correlate to smoke if there aren't smokespren.
  23. I thought Vasher would play a bigger role. He was one of the only people in the tower with power that wasn't inhibited by the sabotaged defenses, would have made sense for him to pull Kaladin out of at least one of the half dozen life threatening confrontations. For some reason, I also thought Rhythm of War would be written by Venli.
  24. Ah forgot about that. I wonder if they could Hemalurgically spike the trait out of a Rosharan to give it to the terrispeople. Though Harmony doesn't seem to like using Hemalurgy, so if that was one of his people it's unlikely that they would use that.
  25. I think it was just something they put in their eyes to make their eyes lighter, like Tyn suggested Shallan use to make her eyes darker. Shallan wondered if there was something that did the reverse, there likely is.
