I've always assumed that Hoid uses Lightweaving to cover up the effect of his BioChroma.

Skybreaker Question [Warbreaker Spoilers]
Lindel replied to SingTheSorrow's topic in Stormlight Archive
Nightblood is not an Awakened Shardblade, he's essentially a Shardblade created through a very different process. Going into too much detail would be spoilers for Warbreaker, though, so I'll leave it at that.- 27 replies

Skybreaker Question [Warbreaker Spoilers]
Lindel replied to SingTheSorrow's topic in Stormlight Archive
To clarify your main question, the Order of the Knights Radiant called the Skybreakers do bond Highspren. However, it's unknown at the moment whether Nale's Skybreakers are actually Surgebinders, or simply a group named after the Order.- 27 replies

No chull dung, but they are a bit... high in mineral content, if you get my drift. Welcome!

When you burn a metal Allomantically, the molecular structure of the metal filters the power. The metal says, "Hey! Do XXX!" Then you get a bunch of power that's filtered to do XXX. When TLR or Miles store health in gold, they can swallow and burn it. Then, instead of the metal saying, "Give me strange visions of my potential past self", the stored up health says, "Give me more health!" The power says, "Ok!", and dumps healthy dollop of Investiture, giving back roughly ten times the amount of health they stored in that goldmind. So, instead of getting power allocated toward seeing their past selves, if they burn a goldmind, they get the same boost of extra power allocated toward their own health. They can then store this extra health away for later use. Basically, Miles stores x health in a small piece of gold. He swallows the goldmind. He burns it, giving him 10x health back, which he immediately stores in his bracers. He could then store 10x health in a goldmind, swallow that, burn it for a 100x, and store that. Repeat this process a few times, and you can easily see how he could store up a virtually infinite supply of health. Once he gets going, he could potentially be tapping his bracers at all times, while constantly burning gold to keep them full.

Welcome to the forum! Have some upvotes, and read Warbreaker. Now. And don't take the cookies!

AonDor? But you've read Mistborn! How can your answer not be Allomancy? The perfect balance of awesome powers and simple limitations, the virtually scientific laws governing those powers, the cleverness in the way the characters are able to take those powers and maximize their utility, the way that we as fans have been able to analyze the magic and find inconsistencies that are answered in future books... Sorry. Anyway, if you haven't read Warbreaker, do it. It's great!

Ben Kingsley as Sazed. I saw this mentioned somewhere, and after giving it some thought, I really like the idea. Russel Crowe as Ham is another of my favorite suggestions. Also, I saw someone suggest Harrison Ford as Clubs, and I think he'd be perfect. If you've seen him in 42, you know what I mean. He can definitely pull off the whole, "grumpy old guy" thing these days. Jason Isaacs would make a perfect Straff Venture. Admit it, the guy looks evil. I'm still in the Ellen Page as Vin boat, as long as she can pull of being sixteen, which is becoming increasingly unlikely. Cumberbatch as TLR? I could see that. I think he could add a lot to the role!

Welcome to the forum! Have an upvote. Have you read Warbreaker, Alloy of Law, Elantris, and Emperor's Soul? Oh, and just a bit of advice. If a stranger offers you cookies, don't take them! Unless you aspire to give your life for science...

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Granted. You permanently lose your sense of taste. I wish my shoes would tie themselves every time I put them on. -
Try Orson Scott Card. Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow, Pathfinder... Basically anything by Card is good.

Well, you know what they say. There aren't really any "original" ideas. We humans are very good at taking what we've experienced, and recombining it to create something unique. That's what art is, really. If you go about trying to invent a new color, or draw something that's unlike anything anyone's ever seen, you'll never succeed. The trick is taking bits and pieces from all kinds of sources, and putting your own spin on it. You don't think touch is enough to make the batteries difficult to steal, though? It's not exactly easy to take something from someone if they're trying to keep it away from you, especially if that something is full of energy that can enhance their magic.

I really like where this is going! Magic as currency has always been intriguing to me. The main question now is the nature of these stamina-batteries. Are the objects unique to each individual, or is there a universal "magic battery"? If your magic batteries are universal to all magic users, do they require a specific material, or is the shape of the object more important? What makes the nature of these objects important in your world?

I'd be willing to help out with flavor or puzzle design, but it sounds like ThirdGen's got that covered. Let me know if you need any extra help in that area. If you need some voice actors in the future, I'd be up for that as well.

We may have no choice if Kobold remains too busy to finish this scenario. -
The Worst That Could Happen Foundation
Lindel replied to Kobold King's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
And clearly I'm interested, seeing as I'm the one who brought it up this time. -
Well, I'm intrigued! Great intro, I love the idea of a magic system built on music, and the voice of the character is very engaging. I'd love to read more! I have to agree about the last name Potter, though. The name Atticus Potter sounds good, but when combined with the fact that he says he's a magician, it instantly make one think Harry Potter.

The Worst That Could Happen Foundation

Is this topic officially dead, then? -
This artwork of Trolls from MTG's Mirrodin block has really intrigued me lately. I'm now picturing a race of solitary, enigmatic sages whose extensive knowledge of magic is a central part of their culture and their way of life. I've actually found Magic: the Gathering art in general to be an excellent source of inspiration when I'm creating races. I used the Djinn from Khans of Tarkir as inspiration for one of my more recent races, the Efreets. My Efreets came out looking very different, but that artwork was what got me started.

Maybe. I know the feeling.

There was a period of time where most of my dreams seemed to involve me being on the run, a fugitive from justice. They were often a continuation of the same story, too, which was kinda fun. In the last one I can remember, I escaped from the prison van and fled into a desert wasteland dotted with massive, dust-covered versions of my childhood toys. I was eventually corned by the cops in a ghost town built entirely of huge, faded Lego bricks...

A recent world concept of mine revolves around a continent on the dark side of tidally locked planet, Aliyrá, where a symbiotic relationship between nature, technology, and magic is an integral part of the ecosystem. The flora and fauna of Aliyrá host specialized implants, which are passed on through nanotechnology on a cellular level. In humans, the implant's primary circuit is built up along the spine, and is visible as a series of flexible metallic links that stretch and reshape themselves as their host grows. The central implants in trees are found as clusters of tubes and pipes embedded in the trunk and roots. These implants are fueled by the lifeforce of their host, and in exchange producing an extra boost of energy to maintain a healthy body temperature despite the intense cold. In plants, the implants also produce energy to substitute the need for sunlight in photosynthesis. Now, technical details aside, since I honestly have no clue what I'm talking about there, here's what I envision. An ancient, sprawling rain forest, lit only by the bioluminescent glow of the towering trees and draping vines, where technology is as much a part of nature as the plants themselves. All details of the science behind these implants has been lost to history. They run themselves, as they have for hundreds of years. A layer of frost covers the ground, sparkling in the soft, unearthly light. Your breath mists in front of you, and the occasional puff of snowflakes filters through canopy, but you don't feel cold. Warmth spreads from the hinged plates of metal embedded in your skin, reaching all the way to the tips of your fingers. There's also a magic system to go with this, but that's a whole other story. If the concept seems kinda odd, that's fine. I just need to work out a way to explain it in writing so it sounds as cool as it looks in my head.
