Is Brandon still answering questions? I've been wondering about the implications of cloning and sDNA. More a curiosity than anything revolutionary. Should I wait for a signing, or try the AMA?

I've had an idea kicking around based on the theory that our entire reality is actually a massive simulation. Not "brains in a jar" style simulation, but that everything in our world, including our minds, are actually simulated by a complex supercomputer in some ancestor universe. In such a universe, the magic system would essentially be hacking the Simulated reality in which you're living; finding loopholes in the code of your own universe. That's what I thought of when you mentioned the idea of a shared universe where everything is canon. There could potentially be an infinite number of Simulations, each with its own unique variations. Also has great potential for the "omnipotent overlord who controls reality itself" theme. EDIT: Another reason I thought of this was your use of the term "Open-Source".

That's not a Shardpool, as there are no Shards on First of the Sun. I'd call it a "Splinterpool", but I doubt that's the correct term. I'm pretty sure Leester's interpretation is fairly accurate; it's more a symbiotic relationship than the parasite "controlling" their host.

True, but all the Shardic Intents we've seen are active. Ruin ruins, Preservation preserves, Endowment endows, Devotion devotes, (that one's a stretch. I'd say "Devotion is devoted" is more accurate, but you get the point), Odium hates, and Culivation cultivates. What does Truth do, though? Truth "truths"? It doesn't fit. It might seem that Honor isn't inherently active. But, in a way it is. Honor binds, but he also honors (in the sense that he "honors" oaths, etc). But Truth isn't something you can do. If I make a promise, I can honor that promise, but I cannot "truth". Perhaps a better Intent would be Enlightenment?

We did a Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood marathon this weekend: we rewatched the whole thing start to finish, and I was actually thinking exactly the same thing. Transmutation even creates a glow, just like Investiture, and Truth totally works as a Shard, although I doubt its Intent would actually be "Truth"... Maybe something along the lines of Justice or Equilibrium? The other side of the Portal of Truth is basically that world's Spiritual Realm. Of course, if Alchemy were a form of Investiture, you wouldn't need any energy from Tectonic Plates and whatnot. The Transmutation Circles would work like metals on Scadrial or Aons on Sel, simply opening gateways to "Truth's" power. It's surprising how easy it is to make Alchemy work as a manifestation of Investiture!
