  1. This is probably one the next-level-truths for Shallan ... "Pringles are amazing and make me happy" => *insta-shardplate*
  2. Thanks, I totally agree with you in all regards: the intended stormlight-blocking, the sphere imprisonment and the ME (*wink*) release. Take an upvote
  3. I guess you are refering to Thanks for the hint, that was what I was looking after. What Shallan in her own PoV chapter says or thinks on the other hand is not. I am not quite sure how I earned such a berating, and I AM a bit pissed.
  4. Well..actually Pattern says Are we certain that "him" refers to Odium? And Syl uses a similar reference in chapter 17: I know that thats what is usually implied by everybody in and out of the books, but do we have a WoB or a quote where this is clearly stated?
  5. Nice catch! Of course we now have the task of fitting the heralds into Shallans story.
  6. Ok, thanks for the quote! I should have remembered that myself, but that for we are discussing :-) What about when we don't put the accent on the race but on the shardic association, something I already attempted above: What DOES happen when a huge number of people (of whatever racial origin) from a different shards influence enters Roshar? Will Dominions people try to rule? Will Devotions people associate with Cultivation?? Will this go seamlessly?
  7. That sounds like a quotation from the Vorin believe system, not out of a historical publication. Sleep well ;-)
  8. As we don't know when exactly Odium or the humans arrived I feel free to theorize, so I suggest considering the following: In the beginning there were Honor and Cultivation, the Spren and the Listeners. They all had a quite fruitful, quite peaceful and very stable relationship. Then Odium started targeting them. How could he proceed? Full frontal attack? Or could he perhaps attempt to insert a very foreign element into the Rosharian ecosystem, like e.g. Followers of Devotion and/or Dominion? How would they interact with the Listeners? With Honor? With Cultivation? The least one can predict is, that this would certainly put quite a strain on the system.
  9. Sorry for bickering, but posts based on huge quotations directly interact with my impatience :-)
  10. I more thought of that Odium brought a huge number of humans from Sel to Roshar after splintering Devotion and Dominium to destabilize Honor and Cultivation. The people would of course bring their own old stories and memories with them.
  11. @KidWayne Why did you cite the whole story, we all literally read a few minutes ago? And I don't see the Shadesmar connection. What about at least parts of he more-human-population of Roshar were refugees or settlers from Elantris, and in the first few hundreds years people still remembered some aspects of Sel and its history in form of legends, like this story.
  12. You misread, OP wondered why the spren CAN speak good Alethi.
  13. And sorry back, I didnt bother to check the context of your posting!!!
  14. Hmm .. I always took it for granted, that only the Listeners and the greater and lesser Shells were native to Roshar. And that everything remotely "human" immigrated (from Tranquiline Halls), and that all of the "stranger" beings, like abovementioned chickens, horses etc., came with them.
  15. The only power the parakeet will give to Mraize is the power to be shat upon :-D
  16. I concur; forgot about Syl's explicit identification. Perhaps there are likable voidsprens then, quite like distasteful honor/cultiviation sprens :-)
  17. Just in time for the next highstorm Shallan will have found out, what has to be done to make the city glow.
  18. I doubt the yellow spren is a voidspren at all; she is all for fighting, but I don't sense any hatred, which I would expect from Odiums sprens.
  19. If either of these two, I would immediately FIRE her if she worked for me; giving away what one knows or did is NEVER a good idea. Moreover Dalinar is 100% the wrong person for being target of psychological warfare ...
  20. I am with @Mulk here: Mraizes bird by its description is just a run-of-the-mill parakeet, nothing like "the other birds secretly mentioned above" (too lazy to put spoiler tags around).
  21. No yellow sprens, neither in TWoK nor in WoR ... searched for "yellow" in my Kindle versions ... its mostly about vine, scarfs, cloaks and shalebarks ...
  22. Well...their second Ideal seems to be a good starting point in that regard, or? If all the other orders had/have ideals which concern something like "human decency", then they might have been disgusted by an action taken (i.e. severing the Connection between Parshendy and the Rythmus), which left the Skybreakers unmoved due to their 2nd Ideal. EDT: Addendum: You can of course replace "have ideals which concern something like human decency" by "have ideals which directly contradict the action taken"
  23. So, to summarize Melishi, a Bondsmith at that time, did something to the people of the Parshendi. A huge part of them could not hear the rythms anymore, afterwards, and became numb to everything around them. The nature of what had been done to so many people so disgusted nearly all Radiants, that they cut their Nahel bond. My two pence, in spoiler tags just for spoilery reasons related to Mistborn, not for dramatic ones EDT: added job description of Bondsmiths EDT2: added spren speculation
  24. Well...there are quite some different species on Roshar, none of which is really "human" ... although they are not THAT different, as they can interbreed ... ... hard to say how similar species have to be to call it racism ... quite a can of worms better left closed ... EDT: bold
  25. The world is ending, how much future is there to worry about?
