  1. While I agree with the previous points, I felt Kelsier was a bit trying to jerk him around. However, the way things are set for now, I think Spook managed to be more like a partner in crime than a servant, even if Kelsier holds more power in their relationship by virtue of being Kelsier.
  2. The point is: why is slightly cold weather a frozen wasteland for them? Did nafural selection over a thousand years change them so much, or is there something else at work here? I don't think it took long enough to be something explained only by evolution, but I am no expert.
  3. As dar as I remember from WoBs, most gems come from animals, and that is part of why the Shin are OK with soulcast metal.
  4. That is not what I mean. If they were biologically normal humans, they only would need to adapt their clothing and habits to survive slightly cold weather, instead of freezing without the medallions. The point is, they aren't biologically normal Scadrian humans, but were meant to be. So what the rust went wrong?
  5. And a staff with a campfire strapped to one end.
  6. The problem is not the ten years. It is the three hundred years after they were saved, yet still couldn't adapt. If it isn't a biological limitation, it is a Realmatic change, and as far as we know Rashek wanted to avoid both.
  7. I actualy believe the creature was being literal. It seemed to not have a physical body, stealing one from a beggar, so I assumed "serving in another Realm" actualy meant he was turned into one of them. Weird way to get a promotion.
  8. Yes, but Kelsier does not have a blockage between his physical and cognitive aspects. He lacks one. Now, how to fix this? Well, the final talk to Spook in the end looked worringly close to a demonic pact, and who is to say Kelsier wouldn't be above stealing a body for the greater good?
  9. True, I felt it too. Especialy the parts with Leras slowly fading away... We all will miss you, Fuzzy. Ps: I also felt sorry for you Ati. That last punch was downright mean, even if very understandable.
  10. Well, the second fits most people, in the right(meaning terribly wrong) conditions. I mean, it happened so much times in our world giving particular exemples is pointless. Kelsier just happens to do it much more naturaly than others. But I would define the "condition", if that is even a good term, as lacking the ability to feel compassion.
  11. Then either he should do more research, or I should. As far as I am aware, a full psychopath wouldn't be able to form relationships with other people not based on personal gain and would be incapable of caring as much as he did about the suffering of others. His slightly sadistic streak and how he doens't care at all about the lifes of nobles do fit, but so much of his personality, like his fixation on hope and continuing Mare's dreams point it against he being a psychopath, as much as being almost a psychopath.
  12. Perhaps because it took something greater than a human to control the sum of all shards, so the power conveniently divided into sixteen smaller, more manageable parts.
  13. He is not a psychopath. He is at worst a partial sociopath.
  14. And Hoid was happy to attack him and kick him while he was down instead of actualy trying for once to talk or lie his way around him. Doens't sound nice at all.
  15. I still think he got Spook to spike a normal man, perhaps even himself, and possessed said man somehow. The scars he made himself, because he wouldn't feel right without them.
  16. I can see him eventualy trying this, people had it pretty hard in Hell and he could see making himself their holy savior as similar to what he did in the Final Empire. As long as he felt he could actualy help them.
  17. Wow. Secret History was way better than BoM in my opinion. Some times I almost cried, and some times I felt so furious. Now, fot some more especific things, was I the only one who felt bad for Ati when Kel punched him? And who thinks the talk between Spook and Kelsier in the end hit too close to some sort of archetypal demonic pact? Asking him to wield dark arts to give him a hold into the material world, under the promise of immortality...
  18. I think you mean the final afterlife, which is not the Spiritual Realm.
  19. Careful, Maxal. While I agree with you about comic relief characters, directly saying you dislike Hoid in the Shard is asking to be burned at a stake for heresy by those you oncw called friends. Plus, he at least tells stories not meant as comic reluef, so he is not as bad as Lopen, IMO.
  20. I will include the link later, but now; Sonata Arctica- It Won't Fade for the Ghostbloods A particularly fitting excerpt from the lyrics: Secrecy, silence, a stench of treason The glow of the darkness, you brought in the daylight The cure will not kill you, there is no such mercy. Rules of the nature are fair and cruel. EDIT: here it is, although I just realized how much the complete song actualy fits Shallan's arc as a whole:
  21. I don't think the shards "choose" spren, as much as that their investiture is naturaly closer to those spren types.
  22. That is part of it. The other part is that Horneaters have some listener blood in them, and listener minds are closer to shadesmar than human ones, at least according to their songs. Lift, however, seems to be closer to shadesmar in body, not mind.
  23. Elantris happens somewhere between 500 and 1300 years before SA though .
  24. If they are involved in the recicling of investiture from dead beings, they sound very aigned with Cultivation. Plus, WoB says Cultivation as a shard is very compatible with Ruin. The way I see it, Cultivation wants to change all things towards more complex forms, and Ruin wants to break down everything into simplier forms, but to build something bigger you may need to take something apart, and to take something apart you may have to build the right tool to the job.
  25. Your post was relevant to the discussion, up to date and useful, so it is not a necro.
