Spambots all over General Brandon Discussion! Or, just one. Thankfully, this is the first time that I've seen one on the site, and it makes me grateful for the members who spend time to report them, but makes me VERY grateful for the staff who get rid of them tirelessly. Keep up the good work!

I think that the leader of this guild embodies my values. Creating chaos in the forums Holding vast amounts of power But still actually doing real stuff (And thus allowing him to ignore this kind of stuff for extended periods of time.) So, I will throw my support behind Chaos. But since the third and fourth things on the list are usually appealing to me… My support perhaps isn't all that valuable.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Curiosity replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you start wondering how the trend of hiding secret doors behind bookcases got started. Then you realize that there is a perfectly logical reason for this, but you don't want to say, or otherwise you might end up with the talking dinosaurs… (Some evil Librarian is having a really good laugh about this, since no one actually checks behind bookcases for secret doors, but they do it all the time…) -
Is there such a thing as a Feruchemical savant? We've had discussions of the drawbacks of compounding, but I still don't understand why a problem would manifest when compounding… What's the cause? Edit: clarity.

But Firefight is all set to go, right? -
I do like Liam Hemsworth for Demoux. First good casting of him that I've heard of.

There's a dialogue in Well of Ascension that confirms that he's 38. I don't have a copy though, so I can't quote it here…

Sell. Quiver will eventually betray the Herd and start another clan.

As I was reading around the forums, it struck me that we could probably, through analysis of the letters from the epigraphs of Part 2 of tWoK and Part 4 of WoR that we could probably deduce several things. Although the vast majority of you have probably already read them, the full text can be found here, on the Coppermind. It is already fairly widely speculated that the recipient of the first letter is a Shardholder and a dragon. I have also heard it said that Brandon confirmed that the recipient is originally from Yolen (haven't found the original source on this one though). That is a little bit basic, however, and we could learn more. For example: The unnamed Shard's IntentHoid knows this person and their Shard's Intent. He therefore must have crafted his letter to specifically reason with this Intent to get the recipient to help him on Roshar. Likewise, his old friend would have argued and convinced himself of his own position with his own Shard's Intent. The origins of the 17th ShardObviously, we can't figure everything out, but Hoid does mention that the recipient is associated with the 17th Shard. Maybe the 17th Shard was formed after the Shattering by a certain Shard, or it was originally part of the group/force that Shattered Adonalsium and then shifted goals and names after the Shattering and its leader Ascended. The purpose of HoidHoid, several times, refers to the urgency of his mission and, obliquely, its nature. Again, every mystery won't be unraveled, but we do get some hints. Of course, you, being the enterprising and brilliant fellows of the 17th Shard, can probably deduce much more if you put your minds to it. I've come to a shaky conclusion that the Shard's Intent is probably close to Protection or something like that. However, it just seems to be too similar to Preservation, just a little more personal. Discuss all of the above (and more, if I know you guys ).

The theory is certainly plausible, but again, we really don't know much about the Shattering/Hoid/Yolen to say for sure. For this kind of stuff, I usually let other people do the theorizing because I don't like extrapolating from so few data. However something that you said intrigued me… You mean this quote? It's on the Coppermind, right here. I've never thought about Cultivation as the recipient of the Letter, though I would agree with Moogle that it would probably be a Shard (and the dragon part comes from Hoid calling the recipient "you old reptile"). I would say that the 16, along with Hoid and possibly some others (beginnings of the 17th Shard?) were either trying to somehow correct Adonalsium by splitting up the power, or did not approve of Adonalsium in the first place. Or maybe they didn't know what Adonalsium was when they Shattered him, so they then took up the power and learned to respect what he had done. Uh… That last one probably lacks some credibility.

I think that they would, because there's a WoB* that a Spiritweb is created at conception. There are two different fertilized eggs when Siamese twins are conceived, so I would guess that there would be two.

Should make this an easy one, since I'll be leaving tomorrow… A seeming contradiction. Then again, stereotypes aren't always true…

Kaise =) Edit: Congratulations Delightful, on your graduation to Full Feruchemist! If I get there I might just stop posting so I can stay one.

http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=944#7 Concerning Shards without minds and the power behind them... I would say that Odium indirectly caused the chasm because of his killing Aona and Skai. This left the power mindless, which caused it to build up and wreak havoc on Sel and its Cognitive Realm. This is probably why Brandon was so antsy about saying that Odium didn't (kinda sorta) make the chasm.

Has this been mentioned? This is the third time I've posted this WoB within a week…

A WoB to clarify this situation: So maybe it doesn't answer it all perfectly, but it does give us a good idea.

Questions on the nature of Shards and Returned animals

I believe that Kelsier stayed around in the Cognitive Realm partly because he was willing to stay, but mostly because he was already regarded as such a prominent figure by the skaa. This would give him a heavy Cognitive presence, sort of like the Stormfather. Sidetrack: Maybe the Heralds don't have spren because they weren't of Honor or Cultivation? -
