  1. The spikes affect the soul, so to figure that out we have to enter theology. A Sentient Robot would have a soul. There's also this one: I don't entirely know what this means for usage of magic, but I think this means that you might be able to spike a robot. He equates them with Spren against Shardblades, and we know you can spike a Spren...
  2. Yes, but then you'd get into an argument of "possible" vs "feasible."
  3. If Malata/Spark is to be believed, Ashspren are Dustbringer Spren. Which means that the mass killing of Ashspren should be from when the Dustbringers broke their bonds, rather than something targeted on them. As for the KR of old: Yep, nearly all of them broke their bonds. And before you ask why, know that there were so many things that led up to the Recreance, it's not a simple answer. (If you want the whole thing laid out, click on the "Recreance Cause Elaborated" link in my sig) Odium usually influences humans through the Unmade, so it could go either way. They may just be in the same area as one of the Unmade(non-targeted), or they could be the reason Odium has that Unmade in the area(targeted). We don't know. (Edit: this segment was ninja'd by Weltall, but I'm keeping it anyway) Adonalsium: They were Honor's chosen, and have spoken with him on at least one occasion. He could very easily have provided explanations for himself and Odium. Midius: Hoid goes by a lot of names, at a lot of times. For instance, Leras refers to him as Cephandrius, so you'd think that'd be an older one, but it's not necessarily older than "Hoid," which he is currently going by. Vasher knows him as Dust, despite him going by Hoid during Warbreaker. There's also Topaz, which Frost references in the Letter. The name that someone knows him by means little in terms of when they learned his name, because he both reuses them and seems to go by multiple names at once. Pre-Shattering: I highly doubt it. The Oathpact happened after the Fused became a thing, which was after Odium came to Roshar. Odium was out doing other things for roughly 3 millennia or so. I don't think a group of 10 immortals would have stuck together for 3K+ years across multiple planets.
  4. Especially in light of news from Azir. I distinctly remember Lift overhearing something to the tune of "we've lost two Primes in a week." Szeth killed the Prime, hung around and killed his successor. He killed the King, and Elhokar is his successor. In his shoes, I'd absolutely be worried. Edit: @AC12. Elhokar cut the girth strap on his saddle(which would not really put him in danger) in order to provoke an investigation. The weakened gemstones were an act of actual sabotage by parties unknown, which was only revealed because Elhokar's self-sabotage provoked an investigation.
  5. Considering River Bifurcation is a thing in real life, I'd say yes.
  6. We've had a couple discussion of travel times in the past... and I think that (or something similar) came up at one point
  7. You could say the same about Awakeners(who don't consume Breath) and the God King(who gets extra Breath). But it's not a big deal there, so why would it be here? The Shards themselves are as close to functionally infinite as one can get, and I'm not sure you can feasibly siphon off enough power to "weaken" an entity that could shrug off a black hole. Nightblood is powerful enough to damage a Shard, but it's massively more invested than anything we've seen so far. How many Bands of Mourning do you think you'd need to come close to equating to Nightblood? That's about how far I think you'd have to go to "split" him in any meaningful way. He's already more weighted towards Ruin thanks to the extra bit of Preservation within everyone on Scadrial. He's doing something with that extra power to keep himself balanced, and I don't see why he couldn't just do more of that to counterbalance what you are trying to do. In order to properly unbalance him, you'd have to do to him what Leras did to Ruin, and splinter away a chunk of his power all at once. Compounding is just too slow.
  8. They could probably last longer, but I don't think it'd be the way they are now. The Highstorms might be weaker, but the ambient stormlight still affects them. That would make them more susceptible to disease as time went on, and plantlife would grow slower, both of which could limit population growth. They'd be tribal while everyone else went feral/extinct, so I agree with Invocation. The Shin would be knocked low enough that if one of the other collapses hit them, recovery might not be possible.
  9. If memory serves, we're still confused. I don't think we ever came to a consensus on here, and I can't find any instance of us asking Brandon about it.
  10. The Stormfather is the conduit from the Spiritual Realm to the Physical Realm for infusing Highstorms. If the Stormfather properly died, and that conduit doesn't get replaced, Roshar ends, plain and simple. For the above reasons, I am fairly confidant that Brandon will not allow this to happen. Which means that in your speculative "bond breaking," the Stormfather has to have some way of surviving.
  11. 1. From what I've heard about it, it's either an identity crisis or some form of psychosis/breakdown. 2. Common theory is that they are linked in some way by the Oathpact(as yet more evidence that they haven't escaped it). Their situation reminds me of Star Wars: The Old Republic Spoilers 3. We(specific Shards/Individuals), We(Shards in general), We(royal), etc... towards Old Dalinar, Evi, Honor, Adonalsium, etc... there are too many options people are theorizing, and no evidence beyond "We killed you" and "I can/can't see that." Wait till Book 4 for evidence/answers.
  12. No worries. I just figured you gave up on correctly spelling Wyndle and went with "her spren" As for Oath vs Ideal, they are both valid: If you're writing it and think it should be capitalized, use Ideal. Otherwise, Oath works just fine. It's just easier for me to use the same term throughout one post, for clarity's sake.
  13. Alternatively(because I remember this from the reddit comments on that WoB): There's a "breath tax" for things further from the form they have an affinity towards(human for humans, canine for canines, for example), and a "breath discount" for things closer to said affinity. Kandra are much more fluid than other races, so there might not be a form they have a proper affinity for, thus negating the tax and discount and making every awakening the "default" value, whatever that may be.
  14. Theoretically, not really. Also, it was Amaram, not Kaladin who dual-wielded in WoK Prime. Which is entertaining to think about now... He went to the Nightwatcher not long after Gavilar's assassination. That was over 6 years ago, or 3,000+ days. If he could retain his level of intelligence by staying awake, he'd have tried it by now. (This actually makes me think Brandon is saving this reveal for an inner thoughts segment if/when Taravangian or Mrall get an interlude later on.)
  15. She actually says the 2nd Ideal during her Interlude in WoR. She says Ideal 3 in Edgedancer, which is the usual point where they get Shardblades. If you are talking about the fact that she says the words out loud after Wyndle forms into a blade, she had spoken the ideal internally first. The Ideals are simplifications of the life they are going to live, and the key point of that isn't that they "say" the words so much as that they accept them and mean them. (Sidenote: this would allow for a mute Radiant, which is a possibility that I'm honestly surprised we haven't asked Brandon about yet)
  16. I meant to say what I said. i had been assuming it was a separate short story like.. (Secret History?) was for a while. (Haven't really opened Arcanum Unbounded yet, except when a discussion basically forced me to scour Edgedancer to finish my reply) Thanks for clearing that up though. I'll probably check it out sometime
  17. Ah, that's what you meant by it. Well, I understand you now, but I still can't answer your question. I just don't know. This is the Model that I(and some others) have been operating under: You'll note that it's simplistic enough to not contradict anything, because we don't have enough information to form something complex enough to get contradicted. (Which is both entertaining and highly annoying)
  18. We have the problem that we have all sorts of information in all sorts of places. Arcanum was meant to condense everything into a singular location, but as Pagerunner mentions, that takes time. In the meanwhile, have my shortcut: We have a few different WoBs that say some related things: Plus a little speculation:
  19. On the subject of things being left developed or explored, The Elantris Saga is meant to be a Trilogy. Dakhor(and Fjordell) is gonna be explored in Book 2, Book 3 is unknown, but there was a mention that he had to finish the trilogy before writing Mistborn Era 3 for "Cosmere reasons." There was also a short story called The Hope of Elantris, not that I've found it to read yet, but I know it has Raoden in it.
  20. Air resistance... derp. That makes sense. 1) I suppose that'd be a valid way to do it. Although, wouldn't he slightly push himself away from any metal surfaces(walls/floors/etc..) while he's got the bubble on? Nothing he couldn't avoid that the same way he doesn't push away his own gun/bullets(through focus), but it's something to think about. 2) I'm curious if you have any elaboration on how you think it'd be related, if only for discussion value. Personally, I don't think Rashek considered it worth the effort. His priorities aren't where ours would be. Look at how he could care less about the Skaa attacking the nobility, even after two of them impaled him with spears. Or how he calmly walks towards Marsh and/or Vin, after Marsh killed Kar and both of them tried to kill him. He's got bigger and better things to do than care about anything going on in the here and now. Also, Vin blinds an Inquisitor's steelsight with a flurry of airborne metal shavings. TLR's trick would shove Vin too, without having to single out her steel lines through that mess, rendering the tactic moot. (Considering that he doesn't even look in her direction, it may as well be a comparable situation) We've discussed around it enough to warrant the scene itself, yes? Given that Inquisitor Sight works, I'm fairly certain that you can be burning without pushing, allowing a "vibe" as you call it to be sent out. Considering that Wax can run his bubble without launching his own gun/other metals, he probably has good enough control to automatically start pushing on foreign sources of metal as they enter his range if he wanted to. This would then lead to discussion of 1) mental/magical reaction time, and 2) the "pushing on metal surfaces" thing I brought up earlier. Granted, this probably wouldn't answer whether it's Skilled Steel or his Resonance at work, but it's worth a shot, right?
  21. Having more power would allow you to push on heavily invested objects, like Shardblades. But Aluminum isn't invested, so more power should only solve a problem that you don't have. You are inadvertently trying to say that gaining more muscle strength will allow you to lift yourself off of the ground. That's not how it works.
