  1. Nalan straight up says that he's the only one to have reached the 5th ideal in centuries. I'm pretty sure there's a mention that the Skybreakers stop at Ideal 3(not that I know where).
  2. The man has both Depression and PTSD, along with dealing with the moral dilemmas for half a book. I'd cut him some slack.
  3. The one whose words were described as "quietly" was Vivenna though. Wait, there's another line... I don't think Terris Servants were described as quiet voiced in Mistborn though... This is exactly what happened.
  4. Bear in mind that that order is also bound by the Law, something the other 9 are not limited by. And their Herald prevents them from attaining the 4th or 5th Ideal, yet another limit the others didn't have(and a limit I'm puzzled by. What is he preventing, when he is at Ideal 5 and seems fine?) They were also under much more control thanks to Nalan's oversight, something the other Heralds neglected to do. They haven't destroyed the world, but they are also much less free to act than the others were. Also, the Recreance was at most 2,500 years ago. The time limit is much shorter than you think. And... I also have a theory of my own (Bottom half of linked post) From my understanding of events, the Recreance makes perfect sense even before considering Odium, and that makes me feel like he wasn't involved in it. I don't see holes in the plot where "Odium's influence" would need to be fit in. The biggest things that I think he contributed were unintentional: delaying the next Desolation while struggling to break Taln gave the world time to fall apart on its own, and Honor's ravings near the end seem similar to Preservation's mental collapse near the end when Ruin was smothering him.
  5. He did. That "perfect version" that you mention is the "Spiritual Ideal" that I mention. I figured you did, but on the off-chance you didn't mistype, I answered the question you wrote. As for this one, "have an answer"
  6. Healing in the Cosmere transcends that narrow definition. Healing tries to match you to the Spiritual Realm Template, and what actually gets fixed is filtered through how you view yourself(Cognitive Realm), in order to effect a change in the Physical Realm. This is how every form of magical healing in the Cosmere works. This is how Magic in the Cosmere works. The Power comes from the Spiritual, gets filtered in the Cognitive(why Intent matters), and effects a change in the Physical. There is no "based on the Cog" or "based on the Spi" or anything like that. Usage of Magic crosses all 3 Realms. A similar question has come up before, and I'll stand by what I said then: Asking Brandon in terms of Spiritual Templates could get around the "sensitive topic" issue. It could also be a starting point, with your question as a logical follow-up. Spiking powers in isn't what kills you. Spiking something out is where lethality comes into play.
  7. Basically as Thunder_93 said, it doesn't actually create a new metal. You short circuit the system so that the Allomantic Metal would give the Feruchemical power. Burning metals draws power from Preservation/Harmony. That raw power gets filtered based on the metal being burned, so that it knows whether to give Steelsight or Pewter strength. It basically says "Oh that's steel? I know how to do that" and then grants you steelsight. But by burning a Metalmind full of a Feruchemical attribute, the power sees something different. It then goes "Oh that's Health? I know how to do that" and then grants you a lot of health. Also, welcome to the Shard
  8. Well, if we assume that they are alone in the universe.... Honestly, investiture and all "escaping" via the physical realm isn't gonna be as big of a thing until they start exploring space. Unless there is cognitive life, there's little to no way stuff could leave the cosmere via the Cognitive Realm. The Spiritual Realm is everywhere at once, so investiture contained within it is always "nearby," so to speak. The SR could cover the whole universe with little trouble. The CR only exists where there is thought, but that could work anywhere with little trouble either. The PR is reality, so that does cover everywhere. I just think it'd be weird for everything to just be in a little bubble that's separate from the rest
  9. I've always seen it as Justice if Honor is dominant, and Wrath if Odium is dominant. Divine Wrath was a form of "Justice," usually against those who "deserved it," so it seemed a reasonable split.
  10. The way I saw it, His entire goal is to give all of creation more time to come up with solutions of their own. It's never been "my idea saves the universe," it's always been "my idea gives the universe more time to save themselves." People talk about his method only delays the inevitable, but that's the point, and that's also why he said that he would rest after doing the snap. In his mind: After the snap, his job is done, and it's time for others to take up the reins.
  11. They were never directly called Shards in the Era 1 Trilogy, I was talking about the things we learned about them(the concept of divinities, god metals, the "gods" are people, splintering, etc...) Those things were the building blocks, and Brandon has expanded upon them with Harmony and the Shards on Roshar. He takes for granted that we've already learned these things, so he can minimize those details in future books, giving him space to flesh out other things about them.
  12. The only thing that you should really read in order is Mistborn. Era 1 should go before Era 2, then 3 and so forth. Depending on how directly "crossover" Era 4 gets, that may be the one with other required readings. But so far, there's nothing that is irreparably spoiled by reading a separate series. The main thing you would be "missing" has to do with the order Brandon wrote the books. He delves further into the nature of the cosmere and how it works as time goes on, so later books build upon that, regardless of their series. To name one example, how the Shards are in Stormlight is an expansion of things we learned about them in Mistborn Era 1. For another, the usage of the word "Investiture" was introduced in Warbreaker, and has become commonplace in books written after that. Elantris 2&3 may end up feeling like a big step up from book 1 because Brandon will have fleshed out so much more of the Cosmere's inner working by the time he writes them. The best example is gonna be once we see Sel's Cognitive Realm, since we've learned so much about the CR from SA and MBSH. But unless you only read Elantris, you will have branched out into the rest of the Cosmere and filled in the gaps. This is also a rare case because most of his series don't have that long of a gap between sequels. (And odds are, people will be introduced to Sanderson through Mistborn/Stormlight, thus nullifying this issue entirely)
  13. I'm fairly certain that no burn = no lines. I also remember a WoB about Inquisitors becoming Savants out of necessity, but I can't find it, so take that with a grain of salt.
  14. Spellcheck. (I'm pedant sometimes) Can you elaborate on how one "absorbs" crystal, metal and stone? Absorbing Air/Heat/most of them make sense, heck, even sand felt viable, but... Growth and Mutation transfer seamlessly, but how far does Fauna's "manipulate the minds" thing translate to Flora? Oh.. you separated Fire and Heat. Has it always been like that, or is this new? Any limit to how cold a Heat Elemancer could make an area by absorbing heat? It'd be very entertaining to have a Heat figure walk on water b/c they froze it. On that subject, what does absorbing heat do to them? I'm working off of only one example of such, and they had to release it b/c they couldn't contain that much. (Granted, heat was just a subset of Fire in that Universe, so that might have had something to do with it) Can Ice only freeze water into ice, or would water vapor in the air work? Not sure how exactly dehumidifying an area would help out, but it's an odd mental image I came up with, and I'm curious now. (I think I brought this up the first time too) Will absorbing Shadow create light? Since there isn't really a distinction between sand and "very tiny stones" (for most intents and purposes), can a Sand Elemancer break down a rock into very tiny stones so that it's then sand, and can a Stone Elemancer do the reverse? As for Lightning, I'm not sure if I'd put it in either of them. Electricity just doesn't... mesh in my head.
  15. Because Adolin's Blade was an Edgedancer's Blade, thus making Maya an Edgedancer Spren. To heal a broken Spren they need to be bonded. To bond an Edgedancer Spren is to become an Edgedancer.
  16. This is just from healing. Those scars are part of who he is, so they would always come back, in much the same way Kaladin's Slave Brand will never go away. Spren can be spiked. As for Cognitive Shadows, they aren't that different from Spren...
  17. "If Rayse becomes an issue." Not when, if. Edgli can express disappointment in those breaking the original deal all she wants, but I don't think she really cares too much about what they do unless they interfere with her territory. She appears to have absolute confidence in her ability to defend Nalthis, and I'm very curious to see where this goes. (This could also lead to some interesting conversations between her and Harmony if/when the MB Space Corp finds Nalthis)
  18. Normally this would be what happens, but as per usual: Preservation cheated. When he attacked Ruin, he "splintered" off a portion of his power. The Pits contained that portion of Ruin's Power, in the form of Atium. (How Leras forced that mini-Ruin to make Atium is beyond me, might be b/c Ati wasn't guiding the power once it was splintered..) Anyway, once burned, the power of Ruin in the Atium would return to where it came from(which is exactly what you assumed would happen). Thanks to Preservation, "where it came from" was not Ruin, but that splintered portion of him. The power of a Shard is tied to that Shard, and will only return to that Shard when used. Preservation meddled enough to make it count as a distinct entity from Ruin, so the power always returned to it instead.
  19. What is Endowment's opinion on Harmony? Because we learn in Oathbringer that: As an aside, we know that Odium doesn't take up other Shards because he chooses not to. If given the opportunity, would Endowment be willing to pick up a second Shard, and if yes, which would she be most tempted by?
  20. The Shard that regularly gifts visions of the future to people is confident about a future outcome. Edgli clearly sees something that we don't. Additionally, there is a difference between "I'll deal with Rayse" and "Rayse will be dealt with" That's Personal Conviction for you. Edgli truly believes that it's better for them to be separate, and she's sticking to it.
  21. Not found so much as guessed correctly. Warbreaker Spoilers Edit: Also, the cultural argument makes more sense for the Kandra, but they adapted pretty well on Scadrial, despite being in the Homeland most of their lives.
