  1. Not necessarily. Vin and Kelsier both took up Preservation and were still called Preservation. It's entirely possible for it to be a new bearer who can keep the powers in check like Sazed does. (Not that likely, unless Era 3 has a massive upheaval in it, but still possible by technicality.)
  2. The exact circumstances are still largely unknown, but we do know a few things:
  3. That's because the search function on this site is... bothersome. But ranting aside, here. Courtesy of Chaos's Event Summary, Circa 2015:
  4. I suppose that's fair, even if I think the extreme weight differential between them and a planet is gonna make the movement beyond minuscule. You'd be right. My sample weights were too similar for the point I was trying to make, and ended up giving the wrong impression. Example Attempt 2: Coinshots push off of several coins at once, and unless they run into something, they don't feel any blowback at all. That's what I see Coinshots vs Planet as.
  5. The force required to make a black hole would implode any and all barriers preventing the Metalborn from being crushed from outside, and the sheer weight would also crush and kill said Metalborn, so I'd say maybe not. (Although, if there was absolutely no limit on tapping rate... I suppose the split instant you'd be alive could be long enough) Either way, you get points for ingenuity by using the Iron Core as a Metalmind though. That's clever.
  6. I'd say no, but I can't prove it. If a 50lb person steelpushes against a 100lb wall, the person gets shot backwards. If a different 50lb person pushes against a 100lb wall, they would get shot backwards. If those two 50lb people push against the same 100lb wall, I still see it as 50vs100 and 50vs100. Until such point as it's shown to not be that way, that's just how I see it.
  7. Water got split into 3: Water(liquids), Ice(frozen solids), and Vapor(gases). It makes sense for them to seem a little less... broad on their own. They have influence over liquids in their respective states, but it's like Awakening where it's easier to do the closer something is to human, except in this case, it's closeness to water. (Clarifying that was actually the second question I asked him, funnily enough )
  8. They can learn, but they cannot overwrite the earliest memories. Also, good lord some of these April Fools names for Brandon on Arcanum.... B-Sand, Basil Sansansonson, etc...
  9. Air is air(O2 , CO2, Nitrogen, the works), Vapor is specifically gaseous liquids(the closer to H2O, the better). To quote the man himself:
  10. Having just searched through several pages of results, it took them a while to connect the dots. They were heavily influenced by that Jezrien = Stormfather connection for years. Earliest reference to the Beggar being a Herald(that I can find) is this, back in 2011: First Reference I can find about him being Jezrien is in 2013(after the release of Lift's Interlude with the "drooling" reference). Curiously, it's also a post against said theory, which is fascinating, as there is nothing related to it earlier in that topic. It's almost out of nowhere. On the subject of calling it early though, we have this. Not only is this from 2010, it's the very first usage of the word "Shalash" on this site.
  11. The Silent Gatherers have traced Moelach to the Horneater Peaks as of some point in OB. Unless he's in two places at once, or they have magical tracking methods now, this should mean there are more Death Rattles, and Moelach is not in the Everstorm. Doesn't prevent it from being one of the other 2 though. I like this. After restoring them, Odium could point to the KR as the ones who lobotomized, and humanity as the ones who enslaved, in order to help him breed hatred. Even Ruin was able to create if it helped him to destroy, so this should be viable within his Intent.
  12. Antagonist-wise, there were... 3(4 if you count name-dropping Wyrn) Hrathen: The forum favorite, PoV character. Dilaf: The proper bad guy, Zealot. Fjon: Here one scene, gone the next. Twice. Ringing any bells?
  13. There's also another logical reason. Per Voidus: Maybe you should talk to some of them, see what can be come up with together.
  14. Hrmm... most of my go-to suggestions are either already up there, too similar, too complex, or Earth . Not sure where to go from here. Although, since this is a system that you've "talked about before," that'd be the one from The Chosen Ones, no? If it is, how stand Order and Chaos as magics? You also had "Mind" there, but not here. Too complex, I assume? Silvertiger raises a good point with Silt, albeit unintentionally. Where are some of the lines drawn? Stone, Sand, Silt. Fire, Lava, Heat. Etc... Not only that, but the higher powers(Time, Life, Creation, to name a few) are usually powerful enough that they have to be contained in items(the Infinity Stones being the primary example nowadays), and that makes them even more dangerous. You can't tie the power to something and not have someone threatening to unravel the fabric of time itself. My favorite example of such was actually the good guy threatening the villain, which makes it even better.
  15. Not to my knowledge. ◘ The Parshendi believe that they didn't do it, and the Song of Wars dates at least that far back. Song of Histories dates back as far as the First Desolation. ◙ Navani(and likely other Vorin scholars) believe it to have happened during Aharietiam. ◘ Brandon has only said "great magic unleashed here" with respect to the Plains. ◙ Many of us(myself included) believe the event coincided with the assault on Bo-Ado-Mishram during the False Desolation. As the others have mentioned, it was a fair bit more than a "vague feeling." In my opinion, the last revelations we got(invading Roshar, destroying Ashyn) were merely the final straws, so to speak.
  16. He shifted the entire crust of the planet and the Well along with it to be at a more stable latitude. Took the magnetic north pole too, unintentionally.
  17. The others have already said it, but have the passage from the book. They shouldn't be that different from their standard counterparts, because training with a properly weighted sword is important. Lighteyes are trained to be able to take up a Shardblade at a moments notice, and you can't do that if the weight balance is vastly different. Too much over/underswing.
  18. Technically, yes. As mentioned above, he united Alethkar against him during his conquests. But after conquering, he began to realize that that unity only lasts as long as there is a threat to be united against, which is why he gives any thought to the "returning the Desolation" idea in the first place. He mentions as much to Eshonai: "Unite them. I need a threat. Only danger will unite them." Gavilar attempted to get the Highprinces to follow the Codes and be peaceful, and is met with resistance from all of them, Dalinar included. He was starting on the same path Dalinar was on in WoK/WoA, but he didn't get anywhere(similar to Dalinar for a while). Unlike Dalinar though, he saw another option when he was on an expedition to the plains, and got.. sidetracked. He was trying something that might work(the Codes), but saw an opportunity for something that would work(external threat). I feel like some parallels could be drawn to some of the outer dominance towns in the Final Empire who stayed in the old system after TLR died because it was something that they knew worked. Gavilar united through war, as did the Sunmaker, and probably many other famous figures. He knows that works, so he'll default to that if met with difficulties while trying something new. So.. you're right. Gavilar didn't know what to do. He knew what he wanted to do, but didn't know how to do it. More WoA parallels, this time with Elend. I like this idea.
  19. I'll grant you that TFE really should've had more fleshing out of friendships. Now that I think about it, the lack of it might be due to the size of the cast. The (good guy) main cast of Star Wars: A New Hope is what... 5 people? The core crew in Mistborn: The Final Empire consisted of about double that, all of whom had various relations to explore(Ham & Breeze, Marsh & Kelsier & Dockson, Clubs & Spook, etc..) in addition to the "Vin meets everybody" train throughout. Exploring all of that could clutter up(or slow down) the story, which (IIRC) was one of the complaints about WoA, during which he does explore more of those relations. HoA falls under the "end of the world" excuse, though.
  20. I want to make a reference, but it only works if Kaladin has a last name, which is unfortunate.
  21. It'd be good for her to walk again, but I'm not sure she'll need to. I'd like to talk to you about the Lanceryn.
  22. I'm hesitant to say which comes first. I think both the Ketek and the story come from a general theme Brandon wants to explore for the book, but I don't think the Ketek itself influences the story to the extent that you are suggesting.
  23. Lift, Renarin, Jasnah, Taln, and Shalash will have flashback arcs in the back 5 books, so they will become bigger characters(the ones who are alive anyways..) Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, Eshonai/Venli, and Szeth are the big names in the front 5, so they are the most likely to fade away later on, as they've been fleshed out quite a bit. Everyone else is up for debate. They could become more, they could become less, they could stay minor, they could die, etc.. we don't know enough. Personally, the only characters that I solidly want to have a bigger impact are Taln and Rysn. Anyone else is an added bonus to me, but that could change depending on how characters shape up in Books 4, 5, and Wandersail.
  24. They are Keteks, a Vorin form of Poetry where the sentence reads the same forwards and backwards(mostly, stuff like "ing" is excused) I don't think anyone's asked him about it. Given that the flashback arc of the books are also linked to a certain character, I think that connection is intentional.
