I don't think Demoux will necessarily be useless. Brandon has said you can jury rig a way to use different powers on different planets. Zahel/Vasher being a prime example. If the three individuals are members of the organization the 17th shard, and it seems from Wit's letter that they have the backing of a shard holder, I could see it making sense that the organization would know how to employ their abilities using a native shard's power system. In other words, I think Demoux could theoretically power his Seer allomancy with stormlight. Just my own line of reasoning, I don't have anything concrete to back it up.

I wonder how a sprenblade would interact with a person if the radiant chose to form it as a warhammer? The hilt is rounded and able to be grabbed, as well as i forgot the spot but i THINK there was a spot or two where someone was knocked unconscious with the hilt. So if the blade was turned into a blunt object ala warhammer or some types of maces, would it still phase through organic matter or connect physically?

the most useless uses for useful powers
Pathfinder replied to king of nowhere's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Or apply repeated staggered lashes so the urine steam travels in waves and curly qs to the urinal. Ok so who is going to start the fart jokes next? lol -
Ok, this is killing me, and apparently is all in my head, but I could have sworn Renarian mentions Ym at some point. I thought it was at the end of WoR, but I did a search for Ym in my nook and nothing came up in that regard. I thought Renarian said that Ym mentioned something about what is happening. If this isn't some crazy thought in my head and is actually reality then that is why I think Ym was mentioned. That in a way he trained Renarian a bit at some point and that will be brought up if Renarian gets a flash back book. Does anyone know the scene I am referring to? I need to look more in depth to see if I can still find it, but so far I found nothing and I could have sworn that it did in fact happen.

This is totally a rip off a spider-man spoof comic, but use stormlight to reverse gravity to the ceiling, then pee in urinal upside down. Just watch out for the splash back...... edit: hmmm this may not work because would the urine stream be affected by your person gravity or the external gravity? -
LOL you guys are awesome. To add a fabrial engine to this stone ship, I reread the chasm scene briefly and although I do no see a specific quote in my cursory examination of it, I did read a part where Kal comments on Shallan's strength. He is impressed, and in fact notes that she is even stronger than him to have survived what she grew up with. So this would imply in my mind, through great respect for someone you deem stronger (at least emotionally), would result in one viewing an individual as an equal, and not someone that must be shielded away from harm. Now regarding the original point of this thread, I have remained silent for a bit, because I am re-reading WoKs, and have not reached Tien's death scene yet. I am past the part where he makes the wooden horse and is enlisted in the military. I want to reread a bit more before I attempt to provide further evidence for or against my own theory. Thank you all who have rung in and contributed!

One thing I pointed out in another thread, to be doing all this steel pushing of hundreds of coins, coupled with using dularium (which completely exhausts whatever metal it is burned with), Kelsier will need A LOT of vials and have to be downing them quite frequently. As shown in Vin's later battles when she aquires dularium. Not saying this would change the result of the battle, nor negate the cleverness of using the chasms to his advantage (good show on that btw), just thought it would be worth noting as well as including in any fictional portrayal of said fight.

Oh I am definitely with you on that. I do agree there is some group within the Shin that would wield the honorblades, I just disagreed that it would be the stone shamans themselves, unless the entire culture system was corrupt, which based on what Nale said it very well could be.

Kaladin and others, broke and scarred.
Pathfinder replied to Wicklander's topic in Stormlight Archive
Also I would say in defense of Kal, at one point he asks the Stormfather why is there so much war, and it replies "Odium reigns", so it could also be that shards influence in that world that seems to amplify his hatred. Just my thought on the matter, not sure that is canon or anything. -
Um, Kal and Szeth practically carry on a conversation during their battle.
-
Ahhhhh, must have misread. My bad and thanks!
-
I am refering to the second battle between Szeth and Kal. Each honorblade does what each order does. Szeth had the windrunner honorblade. Which means either Kal had the skybreaker, or he is a knightsradiant. He showed all the abilities of a wind runner, right in Szeths face. So real, physical evidence, right in his face.

WoB, after Kelsier died, he stuck around. When Vin used it to battle Ruin, and gave it up, someone needed to hold it. Kelsier held it till Sazed picked it up. Or at least that is what I have picked up on this forum. I am definitely NOT the authority on the subject though.
-
Hmmm, this may be splitting hairs, but I interpret that reading as when she used it to kill Ruin, and gave it up that way. I'm not sure he is referring to the first time at the well. Then again you have the quote, so I am probably very wrong lol

Doesn't change what I said. If you put hard physical proof right in their face, even the craziest of people will say "ya know what......you miiiiiight be right". So I just expanded on the moon deniers example already given.

To ring in on this, I am not trying to be negative or criticize any theories. The way I see it, is if we can eliminate possibilities, it will bring us closer to the actual answer, so without further ado.... -"She picked an informant on the other side of the spectrum--a beggar named Hoid whom Cett claimed could be found in a particular square late at night...She soon located a figure that wasn't sleeping like the others, but sitting quietly in the light ashfall. Her ears picked out a faint sound. The man was humming to himself, as the instructions sad that he might be doing. Vin hesitated. She couldn't decide what it was, but something bothered her about the situation. It wasn't right. She didn't stop to think, she simply turned and jumped away." So by that logic, the humming itself shouldn't have spooked her as that was what she expected him to do based on the instructions -I don't believe Vin was a sliver by that point. Admittedly this is my own logic, but when she accessed the well, she GAVE UP the power. She didn't pick it up and "play" till the end of the third book. So (again my own reasoning), the whole sliver thing wouldn't work. Can anyone confirm or disprove this? Figure it will help narrow things down

That is still incongruous. I believe the implication was this was a arena bout between two individuals with abilities from different sources. Now we are throwing in the surrounding mythos to back them up such as harmony? In that case then why doesn't Kal get a full shardplate, that functions like a complete radiant? Or for that matter, why doesn't the stormfather then back Kal by having a continual storm in presence constantly feeding Kal stormlight? Or the mists spontaneous appear, flood into Kelsier and he that pushing and pulling like Vin when she levels Kredik Shaw? For sanity sake, I think this comparison has to be defined. We know enough about Kaladin for his early base abilities. If this is so, then the same should apply to Kelsier. Kelsier should be allowed the abilities he holds in book one. Or even better, if we are comparing abilities then it should be nameless mistborn vs nameless windrunner.

What about the scenes in the chasm? They learned to each respect each others skills. Once she showed how she could map the chasm, he deferred to her judgement. And again when the voidbringers popped up, she was handling the gate. Nothing says there won't be times that they won't be cornered, and now that her abilities are more out in the open, that she will chose to employ them. Hell I just remembered, she did so with her illusion with the chasm fiend to distract it from attacking Kal
-
Well If Shallan and Kal were in battle with voidbringers and worked together, he could technically be protecting her back while she protected him, and she not have a problem with it. I believe the main reason she freaked on Adolin was the implication of his protection meant she was a delicate flower that couldn't protect herself. So I think the imagery it would create is her cowering behind Adolin, resplendent in his shardarmor and blade as he faces whatever evil dare harm his beloved. With Kal on the other hand, like I mentioned earlier "Hey Shallan, you got the 100 voidbringers on the left? I'll get the 100 on the right. Go team!" lol Edit: example being the numerous times Kal and Adolin fight side by side. Now that everyone knows she is a knight radiant and can hold her own, perhaps Adolin AND Kal might treat her in a more equal light than stereotyping her as a defenseless woman due to Alethi culture
-
One thing I feel the need to add. Atium would be burned out FAR before Kal's stormlight is extinguished. Also to have more metals, the mistborn needs to down them. So please consider while the mistborn is shotgunning hundreds of coins, burning atium constantly, running and flipping around on pewter, and doing massive bursts of all of the above due to dularium (which burns all the metal being burned into one giant burst that exhausts that metal), he or she has to literally down new vials of metals every other second (case in point much of Vin's later battles)
-
Sorry to have sounded vague, I didn't mean to imply the practice wouldn't, I meant it may not be decisive enough to win the bout. Edit: the sling shotting. Sorry literally out the door, so post is a bit rushed

Although yes Szeth mentions this, he refers to HIS abiltiies affecting SOMEONE ELSE'S shardplate. During Dalinar's vision, there was a knight radiant in blue shardplate that "fell" from the sky, and then "flew" off. I believe that implies that the blue shardholder was a windrunner This is true, i think the knight radiant would need to finish the fight faster than the mistborn would need to. From what I have seen, the only limit on the speed of healing from stormlight is how severe the wound is and how much stormlight you have. If you heal a grievous wound very fast, you drain a lot of stormlight. But with enough stormlight I feel enough situations have been shown they all wounds heal incredibly quick. That would be a clever response to the gravitational pull, but not sure it would be enough to win the fight @Hoser but the Shardplate was invested which I believe counts for this discussion.
-
Didn't Kal lash himself to a shardholder during the duel with Adolin and Renarian? He lashed himself to the shardholder so he went legs first full tilt, cracking the shardholders plate and Kal's legs.

Kaladin and others, broke and scarred.
Pathfinder replied to Wicklander's topic in Stormlight Archive
I am currently rereading WoK, and although this is purely conjecture, there is a scene where jasnah gives shallan the book with all the blank pages. She states fondly how someone of that devotary very nearly convinced her of the Almighty's existence and she held the book like it meant a lot to her. I posit she lost that person somehow and that might have caused the snapping. It would also possibly explain why she never got into a relationship with anyone -
The speed of regeneration for knights radiant are obscene and the levels to which they heal are up there as well. Countless times we have seen Kaladin literally at deaths door and still heal from it, I don't doubt a few "bullet" holes would heal in seconds even if it was a headshot. A windrunner can throw his blade and instantly resummon it to his hand, and has arguably MUCH better flying to be able to catch up to a mistborn for close combat. edit: also couldn't Kaladin just triple lash himself to the mistborn so literally where-ever the mistborn goes, Kal is pulled full speed in that direction?
