  1. Also there are WoB, that Sazed/Harmony is the one keeping Marsh supplied with the last of the atium which is how Marsh is staying alive. I don't think Sazed/Harmony would "fund" him in this way if they were diametrically opposed. They may have different ways of going about things, but I believe they still "work" together.
  2. Ruin controlled marsh directly remember? He would possess him and make him do stuff even to the point of seeing beauty in destruction, vs when not possessed marsh was disgusted. Since marsh still has all the spikes, and sazed is preservation AND ruin he could just as easily take control
  3. Well this is all extrapolation upon what happened to the Lord Ruler, and what occurs to savants. For instance if you drink orange juice all the time, your body begins to get used to the influx of vitamin C. if you suddenly stop, you become SLIGHTLY more vulnerable to pathogens because your body began to rely on the influx of vitamin C. I would think the same would apply to gold compounding but more so. Remember when Wayne was storing health, his eyes were watery, and he was blowing his nose. So health doesn't only preclude physical wounds like cuts and breaks, but illness as well. If you suddenly stop compounding, I could see your whole immune system making one collective shout of This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules lol. edit: i apologize and did not realize that acronym was skirting the rules and would result in being reported
  4. lol, but seriously I could see what happens to astronauts when they spend long periods of time in space happening to pewter compounders. Their muscles begin to atrophy or become too "elastic" from expanding and contracting to such great degrees that you lose all muscular control.
  5. This is probably not how it will work at all, but that would not be NEARLY as terrifying as a pewter compounder. Can we say Bob from Fight Club? lol
  6. In the interest of being a Fullmetal Alchemist geek, and because I always liked the concept/how it was explained, Roy's sigil doesn't make the fire blasty (technical term lol) itself. It transmutes the surrounding air's molecular bonds making it highly flammable (for instance rearranging a bunch of O2 molecules to be O3s and O1s), and then he snaps his fingers on the flint like cloth igniting it.
  7. There is a sample chapter of Shadows of Self on brandon's website that at least in the beginning answers your thoughts regarding Wax's priority on wedding Steris. I will put below in a spoiler tag if you are curious or for those that already know. Also there are words of Brandon regarding why the koloss can reproduce I don't feel Marsh is behind the kidnappings. Yes that would be an admirable twist, but it doesn't make sense to me based on his personality, and the changes he underwent. That is pretty much my own opinion. I could reference points regarding his personality, but it would still be conjecture on my part
  8. Steel compounders act like recovering coke addicts lol
  9. Not to dismiss your thoughts, but I felt that the Pai's portion was mainly to show the deterioration of Alethkar while everyone is away. In fact correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that the first and only time we see what is going on in the kingdom back at "home"? edit: just after I hit enter I recalled the scenes where Kal and Dalinar have visions, but I do not believe we ever have an actual scene of people back at Alethkar till Pai
  10. I thought the implication was the skybreakers were "normal" but were given shardblades by Nale? So they aren't radiants. Prime example being they don't exhibit any skybreaker powers while trying to stop Lift. (To clarify I mean "present day" skybreakers, not the ones before the final desolation) I believe there are other reasons as well, and if I remember them (hopefully lol) I will follow up on this thread. edit: ah here's one, Wyndle never comments on the presence of other spren, like how Syl commented about seeing Pattern. So we know spren can see spren of other orders.
  11. stick your finger in an electric socket while compounding health, then giggle as you sizzle after
  12. I thought the skybreakers had to practically force themselves onto Nale before he would "sponser" them? If that is the case, I couldn't see him exactly supporting the idea of "deputies" who also could use a form of stormlight. Also if I recall correctly the skybreakers of "present day", weren't radiants. They were people who admittedly did have shardblades, but the implication was they weren't radiants themselves. That Szeth might be the first skybreaker radiant. Also after reading everyone's points, I have a slight theory of my own. Why not both? Kal suffered and grew as he went through each of the oaths, to the point of nearly losing Syl for good. Why couldn't Adolin become a knight radiant, but have problems of his own with the oaths? For instance, Brandon has said some orders would look on his killing of Sadeas favorably. What if the order that Adolin is apart of, is very contrary to Dalinar's? Skybreakers and windrunners were at odds, why not Adolin's order and Dalinar's? That would cause friction between them. The further Adolin goes through his oaths, the greater the schism between him and his father. He could feel his father is trying to hold him back. That coupled with guilt over acting contrary to how his father feels he should be I think would cause plenty of pain and plenty of growth. This would add even more problems for Dalinar because on one hand his order wants to unite, on the other Adolin's order disagrees. How can Dalinar resolve the tyrant that Hoid calls him, to unite the orders, without forcing his own oaths/values on others. Just some thoughts I had.
  13. I do have Words of Brandon from a signing where I asked him if we would see other compounders in later books and he did say yes. That he wanted to fully explore the magic system. So soon!
  14. so here is a thought. Skeletals are made from......skeletons! A LOT of things have skeletons, both real and fictional. If we are creating a new monster in the form of the trollos, then why not a different kind of skeletal? I thought a dragon skeletal would be pretty bad chull to throw against the trollos. Hell you could say its Smaug's skeleton to keep it in line with the mistborn/lord of the rings theme.
  15. All good points, but I don't know, still feels like a bit of a stretch. For instance when a radiant touches the blade, one of the things the dead spren scream (if I recall correctly, i need to check, because as i type this, now I am not completely sure) is "why did you kill me!?!?" or the guy holding the sword when Kal grabs it says something like "I didn't kill you! I don't know why you are dead!?!?" then again I had a very busy (but fun) weekend, so my brain could be fried from lack of sleep. Point is, IF what I remember is correct, then if the spren sacrificed themselves, they would already know why they were killed. Though it could be said that they are in never ending pain, so they get delirious and don't remember since they are "dead". Kinda like an elantian.
  16. I propose Fluffy. Who WOULDN'T want to squeeze a ball full of spikes, claws and fangs?
  17. LOL, love the link you put next to my name
  18. And now you have another to add to your Geo-tracking list
  19. I am surprised that New York hasn't gotten any love at all. Am I the lone occupant of the big apple? lol
  20. And now thank you both, because this inspired me to go to the link and reach out to Brandon to hopefully get a copy of White Sand as well
  21. Sigzil mentioned a few places traditions. I forget the name of one, but everyone had a right to debate. Every corner had like a stand or podium to pontificate from, and everyone carried or has near by rotten fruit to throw at said debater. That I think would be a fun past time
  22. Maybe its on purpose so they can charge an arm and a leg for "repair" lol. Just had another idea! Symbols of their legal system be cast in aluminum, or using the symbol for aluminum itself. So for instance instead of the statue of justice with the scales, either have that made of aluminum, made to LOOK like its made of aluminum or have the allomantic symbol of aluminum outside every court to symbolize the law's "incorruptability" (I know cynically the law is FAR from uncorruptable, but we still have our symbols after all).
  23. See that's the problem in my opinion. You imagine, you don't KNOW. You assume it will work normally, so by extension then state so will compounding. Hoid has been shown on numerous occasions to be the exception to the rule given his nature/origin. Applying what he can do to other individuals in the cosmere doesn't fit. You also assume what he does is primarily attributed to feruchemy instead of any of the other countless sources, and through that assumption state that allomancy will work fine. That completely neglects the centuries he has been alive, the knowledge he has about worldhopping, the power sources he has access to, and the means he has to employ them. To assume a inquisitor automatically has ALL of that, when we don't know exactly what THAT is, is conjecture. Another assumption. Marsh operated just fine when Ruin wasn't poking around in his head. Knowledge of another power system means adequately employing your own skills to counter it. If one knows more than the other, it is unbalanced. Feel free to reply, I don't want you to feel I am closing this topic of discussion so I get the last word, but I don't want my own thoughts to derail this thread. Everyone seems to be having a fine time arguing the premise as is, so I don't want to be a spoil sport
  24. See that is where I differ on a lot of these bouts. A lot of your points are from a narrative perspective. If those on this thread would like to do this bout from that perspective, I can respect that. Another poster has been doing vs matches in that light and has been doing an awesome job. But if this bout is to determine who would win in a fight, as posited at the beginning of those post, that its a generic inquisitor vs a generic windrunner, who have to kill each other, no rhyme or reason to it, then knowledge of abilities and how they get them have to be analogous as well. Either the windrunner has to know the full extent of the inquisitors abiltiies and visa versa, or neither can have any knowledge of how each others abiltiies function and how many abilties each other has. In addition the environment should not provide any clear advantage to either side. So it shouldn't be placed in a city with an overwhelming amount of metal, nor should it be in a location bereft of ANY metal. Also if the location is shard neutral, there need not be any conjecture on how anyone got where they are, nor how they jury rigged their system to work there, or even how efficient their system works when jury rigged. Otherwise you come into the problem of, if an inquisitor jury rigged his allomancy to work on Roshar, if according to Brandon it is very difficult, does that mean his compounding will work as well? Or would all his abilities have a handicap as result? We just don't know much about jury rigging yet, except that it is "difficult".
  25. This is going to be an unpopular opinion but here it is anyway. My problem with these vs bouts tends to be the rules are loose and easy. For magic systems like Brandon's where rules make up 90 percent of how it works, for any bout there should be hard and fast limits. If you want to judge which will win, an inquisator or a windrunner, you need to place them on as equal footing as possible. If an inquistor has atium, a windrunner should have a balancing analogue on his side. Ok, so better illustration, you referenced what Kal can do at his second ideal or so, but you also referenced Marsh when he was under Ruin's influence. So you are pitting a "teen" knights radiant, vs an inquisitor with a god backing him or her. Not very balanced. In my opinion from a scientific stand point, to adequately do a vs, if you give this nameless inquisitor ALL the allomantic metals, coupled with compounding, then you should theoretically provide the nameless windrunner ALL of the windrunners abilities/resources, which include shardplate, and a stormlight reservoir in comparison to the amount of allomantic resevoir you are providing the inquisitor. Keep in mind I said resevoir, not metal. This means the same amount of allomantic energy the inquisitor can access from compounding, should be analogous for the windrunner. THEN you could compare abilities and how they are used. Can the windrunner move as fast as an inquisitor utilizing the same amount of resources? Can the regenenative abilities of a windrunner withstand a hit from a compounded pewter punch, assuming the same amount of resources of a compounder with gold? In other words does stormlight heal as FAST as gold compounding with the same amount of resources? And so on. I guess what I am driving at, is in order to compare, you need controls in which to compare TO. If everything is variable, it becomes almost impossible to come to any clear conclusion at all.
