My one problem with this, is we DO see people with violet eyes in the book, and that is just as rare and is a incomplete form of albinism.

Significance of Steelhearts Ability To Turn Objects To Steel, Why?
Pathfinder replied to Moash's topic in The Reckoners
There are always negative effects of epics powers (at least what we have seen so far). Prof has said he has to spread out the gifting, otherwise what happens to him (going "bad" per say) would happen to the person he is giving the power to. -
I'm with King of Nowhere, it is kind of like short term memory loss. Watch the movie "Momento" some time. Excellent movie, and illustrates it wonderfully

You gotta know that some epic, somewhere, when epics first started popping up, went through the trouble of building an evil lair, formulating a evil plan (involving laser sharks of course), and contacted the United Nations to threaten for.....:::::raises pinky finger:::: One.....MILLION....dollars.....(cue raised eyebrow)

The most devastating shard weapons
Pathfinder replied to Fifth of Daybreak's topic in Stormlight Archive
One more comment. Regarding the weight of a sprenhammer, yes it would be lighter than a normal hammer of equivalent size/etc but take into account three things. First, it is stated when bridge four start practicing with shardblades, that they ARE heavy, just not as heavy as you would expect. So we aren't talking a broadsword that is weightless. We are talking a two handed sword feeling as heavy as maybe a one handed sword and so on. I liken it to weapon size categories in Dungeons and Dragons. A bugbear can wield a two handed sword as a one handed sword. A halfling has to wield a human sized one handed sword with two hands and so on. So a sprenhammer will still have weight and heft, just not to the degree you would expect. Second, keep in mind the spren (within reason) can form into ANY weapon including size. Prime example being that Shallan's blade went from sword to dagger. So if a sword can become smaller, who is to say (again within reason), you can't make a BIGGER hammer? That way it would end up having the same weight/heft of a hammer that is made of mundane material, albeit be bigger to account for the weight. Finally, we are talking about a knight radiant wielding these weapons. As buffed up with strength and speed that a shardplate wearer is, I believe a knight radiant with stormlight could bring to bear far more force and speed, which would easily account for and exceed the momentum lost from the less weight in the sprenweapon. -
So still a loose theory, but upon checking the book, when Kal takes the third oath, it doesn't mention that he has blue eyes. It is after the fight with Szeth that it states he does. So maybe (to expand on what someone said, sorry don't have much time to scroll through the thread again), it has to do with how you view yourself like with healing and the tattoo on his forehead. By that point Kal has truly come to terms with his powers being associated with the knights radiants, what that entails, and on some level his role in the grand scheme of things. He has come to terms with what his order must do, for example protecting even those he hates. Shallan has come to be more confident and capable with using lies, but I think a part of her, due to her hatred for Pattern regarding the death of her mother, she hasn't truly accepted/come to terms with the mantle she is taking on, so no change in eye color. Again loose theory, typed quick and off the cuff, so there are probably numerous holes in its rational.

Syl: "But I've helped men kill before."
Pathfinder replied to aheerema's topic in Stormlight Archive
My only issue with this is the idea that Nale created it. The original skybreakers practically forced themselves on him. They organized themselves and begged him to head their order. Eventually he relented. So it could be the organization persisted after the oaths were broken, and Nale was like "well FINE, if you are still gonna use the name and copy what I am doing, I should at least make sure you stay in line and further my goals". -
Also Words of Brandon have said Sazed is starting to get the hang of handling two shards. It is difficult, but that doesn't mean Sazed won't learn how to take a more active role. Then again this is assuming he WANTS to take a more active role. He is a "god" that doesn't want to be worshiped, and grew up in a society that suffered from a perceived "god" that controlled too much.

Could Allomantic mettles be treated as drugs?
Pathfinder replied to High prince of geeks's topic in Mistborn
My main problem with this, is it doesn't make much sense if you think about it. The whole purpose of snorting, or in-taking the drug by a means other than ingestion is to affect the potency of the affect. Once upon a time I attended a festival or two, and one guy I met talked nonchalantly of using another orifice of the body to "ingest" a drug because it goes straight into the blood stream to increase the strength of his high. The WoB referenced does not give me any indication that by snorting it, or using that "other means" would result in a net gain of power of the allomantic metal. Also as it has been mentioned, snorting is NOT a pleasant experience. In fact all other means that I know of to take in a drug other than orally tend to be rather unpleasant. So if you are not really gaining anything from the experience, why would you do it? On the other hand, I could totally see people doing something to the effect of Wax and his whiskey. If you are downing an alcoholic solution, why not make it some good stuff? I could see allomantic "drug" dealers, offering their wares in sugar pills, soft drinks (which coca cola used to contain actual coke since it was originally medicinal), or smoothies. -

Regardless my agreement or dissent on the topic, I like the way you put that -
I will say this much, this would be far more effective/possible in a modern day setting than during the first trilogy or AoL. Think of it this way. You are basically working out while on the equivalent of a low protein diet. Muscle mass is LEAVING while working out. So you are running on "fumes". The way to balance it, is visit your local GMC or equivalent store and buy MASSIVE quantities of protein shakes and bars just so you can continually build the muscle as you lose it. Only exercising wouldn't do it, you would have to alter your nutritional intact massively as well.

That is an awesome thought. Perhaps if there were less lines, and whatever one was "selected" glowed significantly brighter we could have a push/pull flight going. I use Xbox so maybe the buttons be A and B for push and pull and you just have to make sure to be pointed in the right direction. Only problem is pushing behind you as you fly......hmmm.

This would still run into all the above mentioned issues, but to somewhat mitigate the damage, if you had a metal bracer that covered your forearm to an extent, so the force of locomotion would not be focused solely on your hand potentially shredding it, but in fact more evenly distributed and attached to a mechanism (i.e. the muscle and skeletal structure of your forearm) that is slightly more durable to withstand the strain. Your hand would still need some shielding due to the increased strength of your impact, and you would probably pull your shoulder as result but it MIGHT help a bit. This would be a much better idea for a mistborn, who had pewter to handle the negative repercussions. Then again if you were burning pewter, you wouldn't exactly need the help to begin with.

1) I couldn't tell you myself, but there is a great thread where they are trying to figure out what are all the spikes Marsh has, and how many of them there are. If anyone would know it would be them, you can find that thread below: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/8829-marshs-powers-and-the-hemalurgy-use/ 2) Yes 3) I mostly googled images by typing in "mistborn inquisitor eye tattoos". That might help

The most devastating shard weapons
Pathfinder replied to Fifth of Daybreak's topic in Stormlight Archive
It is mentioned in the books that if you stab someone and hit an organ, the organ becomes "dead". Stab someone in the chest, hit the heart, heart stops, person dies, and so on with lungs, and any other vital organs that if suddenly stopped functioning would end your life. -
This and the linked post about the extent of Marsh's powers are very educational regarding allomancy/feruchemy/hemalurgy, but I will reserve my judgement/vote till we see what a windrunner with all oaths taken, sprenblade and shardplate at full knight radiant level is capable of.

the most useless uses for useful powers
Pathfinder replied to king of nowhere's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Sad thing is that actually made me think of something else. Commit a crime, cover your tracks, and then store the memory of the act in a coppermind so you can pass the lie detector test. edit: also perfect for a serial killer. Instead of blood slides like Dexter, or skin like the guy in the Silence of the Lambs, just store the memory of the murder, and then access it to relive the moment. Yeah I watch too much tv...... -

The most devastating shard weapons
Pathfinder replied to Fifth of Daybreak's topic in Stormlight Archive
After reading some, I had to jump to the end of this thread due to time constraints so I am unsure if this has already been addressed. Regarding those that have brought up bludgeoning weapons, or the rope portion of the rope dart as phasing through the opponent, as per the book, it would not function as such. See below: So if it ain't made for cutting, it ain't going to cut so won't phase through. Now I am not saying the garrott won't cut, considering thin enough wire would slice open a throat. That I can't comment on. Same with spikes, they would penetrate and as shown with a spear you don't need to slice to phase. You can pierce as well. But bludgeoning and ropes would only do what their natural counterparts do. No phasing or soul slicing. -
Master List of Origins™: the Ultimate Nationality Thread
Pathfinder replied to Aether's topic in General Discussion
So not sure if this is possible, but you know how facebook has a map that when you tag yourself at a location, it marks that place in the map? Is there anyway to imbed such a map into this thread so there could also be a graphic physical representation of everyone? Just thought it would be also cool to really see the density of Sanderson fans are across the globe. I realize this is a tall order, and I have no idea how it would be accomplished, but was wondering if it was possible and what you think Aether -
the most useless uses for useful powers
Pathfinder replied to king of nowhere's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ok this is kinda twisted but cut someone's arm with a shardblade. Then since the arm is severed from the soul and "lifeless", awaken the arm with the command "punch him". Then as the person proceeds to get punched by his soul severed arm you can laugh and say "stop hitting yourself! stop hitting yourself!" -
Syl: "But I've helped men kill before."
Pathfinder replied to aheerema's topic in Stormlight Archive
Regarding why Syl has trouble remembering the past vs Wyndle, didn't Wyndle and another spren (I think Pattern), explain that some spren are better about transitioning from shadesmar to the physical? And it would also stand to reason that since part of Lift is in shadesmar due to the Nightwatcher, that Wyndle might be also fluid amongst the two by proxy? edit: to clarify, I am not stating whether or not she existed pre-recreance, just as to why she has trouble remembering, while Wyndle recalls everything. -
I was always under the same impression as Seloun. Windrunner's essence is zephyr. As well as one of their surges literally deal with atmospheric pressure. Szeth and Kal both used abilities of the windrunner's. Maybe it is just how each order manifests? For instance the spren themselves manifest differently (Syl as a ribbon, Pattern flowing seemingly "under" everything, Ivory like a shadow, and Windle like a vine), so why not when stormlight is absorbed/used?

So I am still a new guy myself, but a few pointers/things told to me when I started on the forums. First check out this thread for general rules regarding the forums: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/6-welcome-to-17th-shard/?p=12693 One of them includes double posting. It doesn't seem like the end of the world, but it is frowned upon. Now regarding what you posted. The theory Wax put forth as to why house Tekeil didn't report the robberies if I recall correctly, was because they didn't want to be shown as weak, and I THINK (been a little while since I have last read it), to conceal what was stolen at first. Wax later deduced what they were moving and missing. I am not saying this disproves that Tekiel may be part of the Set, just was replying to your inquiries. I don't have time to scan the rest of this thread again but I think someone mentioned here or elsewhere a theory that the Set was trying to also bankruptcy Tekiel, so they could then buy all the shares and end up majority holder of the house's business.
