so here is a question that has been nagging in my brain that hopefully you can all help me with. I recall Brandon saying somewhere that you cannot store while sleeping. Now if I am remembering correctly, it was in regards to gold and storing health. Is that rule only for gold, or all feruchemal abilities? If it is for all abilities, then how would bronze work? If your storing wakefulness then you be would an insomniatic zombie, unable to sleep otherwise you would stop storing. If you stored to help you sleep, once you pass out, you'd stop storing and wake up, resulting in insomnia again. Is there something I am missing? edit: also for gaspers, if you have asthma, and storing is like an asthma attack due to hyperventalating, would you need to always have a doctor near by when you store so you don't die? I don't mean to pop peoples bubbles, i just like understanding abilities, which is why i love brandon's magic systems and this forum so much

A New Use (And a Big One at That!) for Aluminum
Pathfinder replied to anonymous2017's topic in Mistborn
So although I do not think this theory would work, for reasons I would have to spend a whole lot more time researching and fleshing out before I could post, what I would like to ring in on however is that the aluminum WOULD burn away other reserves ingested regardless the individual was a mistborn or misting, simply because that is how Chromium functions. It states Chromium works like aluminum but on other allomancers when touching them. If aluminum mistings could only burn away aluminum because they are an aluminum misting, then a chromium misting would only be able to burn away chromium in other people. At least that is my logic on the subject. -
Assuming Wax ever brings the Set to justice, i have a feeling that is how the trial will look lol
-
So pretty much high profile cases will have to be severely enforced. First there will be chromium leechers to destroy any reserves already in the body. Then there will be the metal detector for any weapons and vials of metals on you. And finally during the trial, seekers situated throughout the room to verify no one is burning metals some how smuggled in.
-
It would be interesting to see how they manifest. On one hand I was going to say they wouldn't because you would instead get seeker guards, or hemalurgic seeker machines negating the need to check for all metal. It would just react if the metal was being burned/tapped. But then I remembered there still would be guns anyway, so a general metal detector as well would probably be a good idea lol

What happened/will happen to Eshonai
Pathfinder replied to missionaryofgod's topic in Stormlight Archive
A lot of good points, and I agree with a lot of what you say, this is just to clarify one part of my last post. I did not mean for you to think when I said mate form drove Eshonai crazy, that i meant like stormform level of crazy. i meant like gah, this is annoying/bothersome and how does this other person deal with it? I need to find the spot, but Eshonai states how she doesn't understand how the leader of mateform could stand it at all nonetheless staying in it for so long. I was just saying that certain forms certain listeners attune to more naturally than others. So the whole screaming thing could have been her in a form she wants NOTHING to do with. While mateform is uncomfortable, scholar form is meh, warrior form is juuuussttttt right, and stormform is oh god what the hell man! lol. But with all the other parallels you mentioned I am inclined to lean your way. -
What happened/will happen to Eshonai
Pathfinder replied to missionaryofgod's topic in Stormlight Archive
Good point, but isn't stormform the first voidform we see? So perhaps it is in a class all its own? Or perhaps Eshonai's sister doesn't hear the screaming because she truly attunes to the new form, while Eshonai does not. It has been mentioned that some parshendi like some forms over others. Eshonai prefers warrior form, the head of mateform seems to be perfectly fine maintaining it, while it would drive Eshonai crazy and so on. Just bouncing around some thoughts -
I would say the opposite, that they see the theories, and say to themselves "oh is THAT how they think it will happen? lets do the OPPOSITE!". There was another thread where a person would posit something they thought would happen, and someone else would say if they buy that occuring, or sell and don't think it would happen. It got started like a year ago. In reading them all to catch up, I did kind of find it funny how many things people sold that ended up actually happening lol.

What happened/will happen to Eshonai
Pathfinder replied to missionaryofgod's topic in Stormlight Archive
I do feel like stormform kind of acts like a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Eshonai is inside screaming, but the Eshonai in control is the version of herself that focuses on all those negative aspects, hence the change in her "music". edit: to further elaborate, instead of it being an entirely seperate entity, its like "evil" doppelganger Eshonai, just without the goatee to stroke lol. -
(out of game), i did speak with him at a signing, and asked if we would see more compounders and he did say yes, that he really wanted to further explore what could be done with the system. I was just hazarding a guess that it would be a zinc compounder, as kind of like a source for Wax during the story, instead of another villain. edit: to further clarify, the buy or sell for me was the TYPE of compounder. I don't want you to think I made a buy or sell post to something I already knew the answer to. Sorry!

What happened/will happen to Eshonai
Pathfinder replied to missionaryofgod's topic in Stormlight Archive
But my thoughts are, couldn't that be what the report button is for? I'm with you, I say get rid of the downvote button, and have the report button be used for inappropriate, harassing, or offensive posts. I would also add we haven't seen the full extent of what stormform is capable of. We saw parshendi who are inexperienced with it use it, while Eshonai has held that form for what, weeks? Add to the fact that I am not sure if anyone else pointed this out, but she was ALSO wearing shardplate. So figure shardplate absorbed the fall and shattered, and her natural stormforminess helped her survive the remaining impact -
Sell, otherwise why would one of the aviar's abilities involve shielding their minds from the nightmaws? the next compounder we will see is a zinc compounder in the alloy of law trilogy

Can I ask to whoever down voted me, why I was down voted simply for saying I did not know that and thanking Outis? -
in that case, though there is no evidence fully against it, and certainly no evidence for it, I think it would be very cool if that clock work dial system i originally proposed worked, maybe even as a fabrial for some steampunk elantrianess lol.
-
So heres another question, and this is due to my own lack of knowledge on the subject so all of this has been educational. If hypothetically at this point in time, we go on the idea that an aon must be drawn, is there a limit to its uses? Like if i draw an aon on a piece of paper and then use it, does the paper burn up? if i carve it into stone, does it crack or go inert after use? LOL i just thought of an awesome idea! assuming the technology for it, a programmable etch a sketch! if you press the button are you technically drawing the aon? lol
-
oh i was going on the premise that people were mentioning tattoos. i assumed that as long as you were an elantian and had the proper symbol you could empower it. the time piece wouldnt be drawing each piece. i meant that it would be like a puzzle. press once configuration, and the symbols would rotate till they formed the aon, and then you would power it so you wouldnt have to take the time drawing them. but again that was based on a misunderstood interpretation of what you all were speaking of regarding tattoos.
-
So random idea i just had for combat aons. Assuming the culture advances enough for clockwork, basically have a disc about hand sized with clock "hands" on it that take the shape such as ) and ( and + and - and so one. One the side or back of the disc is dials, or buttons. You could have pre-programmed configurations that at a press of a button, the hands would rotate and make the form of an aon that you then tap to use. Regarding teleportation, the dials would correspond to the line that would determine distance, height, etc. Then maybe have a list of coordinates that correspond to the dial numbers or also have presents already set in, and turn the dials, or press the buttons and whala teleport away without risk of death. Thoughts?

What happened/will happen to Eshonai
Pathfinder replied to missionaryofgod's topic in Stormlight Archive
ah gotcha, that i did not know. thanks! -
So first, though they are not my choices, I thought of two funny instances for both: Bendalloy: I would be renamed "the buffet bane". All you can eat buffets will shudder in fear at the approach of a subsumer! copper: so I can read all of Brandon's books, store the memories, and then read them all over again so its like reading them for the first time every time. And then anytime I would need to reference a page, I would have it all there at a moments thought But now seriously, mine would be either gold or steel. Being able to heal or get rid of colds in a heart beat, or increased speed is just too tempting.

Hasn't it been confirmed somewhere that Eshonai gets her own book? I thought that was pretty much confirmation on its own that she survives. -
"Real Life" Allomancy or How the second Trilogy might work
Pathfinder replied to Pathfinder's topic in Mistborn
Lol, I could see myself complaining to Ruin, "Dammit, isn't being spiked traumatic enough to cover snapping? Now I have to be beat up too!?!" -
"Real Life" Allomancy or How the second Trilogy might work
Pathfinder replied to Pathfinder's topic in Mistborn
That is true, I didn't consider the snapping, but that does raise another question. For those very knowledgeable on spiking, does anyone know if a misting has to be snapped first before you can spike their ability? I know it would be difficult to know where to spike and what spike to use if you do not know what the ability of the misting is, but let us hypothetically say the individual did not snap but you somehow know what ability he or she would have if they snapped. Could you still spike them and get the ability pre-snapping? -
"Real Life" Allomancy or How the second Trilogy might work
Pathfinder replied to Pathfinder's topic in Mistborn
so then theoretically, and keep in mind this is conjecture and in no way a theory i am espousing as factual and in book world, but if you took a misting with lets say allomantic steel, and cloned them enough times could you possibly end up with a clone with every allomantic and feruchemal possibility? Basically rolling the sDNA dice as it were. Then take all the clones, and spike them to the original to get a fullborn? -
"Real Life" Allomancy or How the second Trilogy might work
Pathfinder replied to Pathfinder's topic in Mistborn
I wonder how cloning would interact with allomancy and feruchemy. If you have a steel misting for instance, and clone him or her, will you get another person with the exact same spirit web and thereby the same ability, or would everything physical be the same, but the spirit web different because it is a separate being and thereby a different ability? Like twins for instance.
