  1. This one I am definitely feeling, though to go along with the leadery tilt everyone is going "I will lead others to/on the path to honor"
  2. annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd now I am picturing Inquisitors wearing trucker hats, with beer guts, and wife beaters complete with cigar out of the corner of their mouths as they go "Yous guys!"
  3. So i know discussing books like White Sand, and Aether of Night are taboo on the forum in general, but are there actual places here where it IS allowed to be discussed without fear of recrimination or penalty? I understand why on whole it is not allowed, and respect that, but I have learned A LOT from discussing the published novels with people here and although I know the unpublished are not canon and subject to change, I still think it would be nice to talk about it with others who have also read them.
  4. Now the Futurama episode where Fry and Leela are looking at fat truckers with art painted on them comes to mind. I am picturing people standing on little pedestals full of spikes (each spike will have a label hanging from it stating the number of times it has been rented), with buyers walking around them to examine them. When a spike is selected, the person on the pedestal is guided off the pedestal to the back so the buyer may receive their spike.
  5. Assuming rentals, then it would be out of the body quite a bit. Do you rent movies that are stored in dvd players? There would either have to be a system in place where people would be paid just to hold the spikes in their bodies till a renter comes in, or there would need to be expiration dates. Even then, each time the spike is given out, the charge would lessen during the transfer from body to body, so again expiration dates would be a requirement lol
  6. True, but that does sound somewhat redundant with "I will protect those that cannot protect themselves" vs "I will grand protection to any who need it".Don't mean to be a buzz kill. I would love to go back and forth on what would be the next ideal. Just saying in my own opinion, the one offered doesn't feel right/work
  7. And much like grocery items, there will need to be an expiration date lol since hemalurgic spikes lose a charge over time
  8. Just checking my earlier post went up, because I literally quoted WoR, where Sadeus challenged an opponent to the death that Yenev could not refuse due to it being a boon from the king. That duel was written about by Jasnah, one of many histories written about the duel that say the same thing, and was quoted by Shallan. That duel is the duel Adolin and Dalinar used as inspiration and was why they did the whole challenge to begin with. The goal of Sadeus's duel was to challenge Yenev to a fight to the death. Adolin emulating said duel means to me he had the exact same intention. The terms of Sadeas's duel were very clear when quoted by Shallan. It was not mutually agreed, because Sadeas had to go through all that to corner cowardly Yenev, and it was not accidental murder because he literally declares he intends to kill Yenev. Death was accepted regardless of whether Yenev agreed to it or not. By emulating Sadeas's duel, Adolin does not need Sadeas to agree to duel, nor to even agree to the terms. I have quoted the text again below on the off chance it didn't go up the first time. I have bolded and underlined the pertinent parts: "The purpose of this preliminary duel was to conspicuously awe and impress the highprinces. Though we had plotted this earlier, the first man to be defeated did not know of his role in our ploy. Sadeas defeated him with calculated spectacle. He paused the fighting at several points and raised the stakes, first with money, then with lands." "In the end, the victory was dramatic. With the crowd so engaged, King Gavilar stood and offered Sadeus a boon for having pleased him, after the ancient tradition. Sadeas's reply was simple: "I will have no boon other than Yenev's cowardly heart on the end of my sword Your Majesty!" "The event, along with his words, is recorded in several major histories," Shallan said. "Sadeas then dueled Yenev, killed the man, and made an opening for an ally- Aladar - to take control of that princedom instead."
  9. Actually had this conversation with my boss one day. Baring reality altering powers, I think (assuming TLR had access to ALL the metals), would be theoretically unbeatable. Basically it would go something like this: Step 1: Put up speed bubble compounding it to get a ton of time to plan everything out Step 2: Compound the luck stored in your feruchemal bands Step 3: Compound electrum to see all the ways with your luck you will succeed and chose the most beneficial Step 4: Drop the speed bubble, compounding speed feruchemally to do whatever way you selected from your electrum coupled with your luck still being compounded that you will surely succeed in said enterprise. Step 5: profit. again this is assuming access to ALL the metals, and that the electrum shadow would still continue outside the speed bubble. I do not know enough to verify either of those, so this whole theory could be defunct.
  10. I dunno, seems kinda limiting. So basically it is saying those that do not explicitly ask for my help as a windrunner won't get it?
  11. Ack, maybe try again. I literally did so earlier today for Aether of Night, and got a reply like 10 minutes later. Could have been they were swamped back when you originally did it and they have a better set up now. edit: now that I checked my email, 10 minutes may be a gross exageration, but I definitely received it same day, both when I requested White Sand a month or so ago, and when I requested Aether today. I used gmail, could it be your email settings?

  13. Just go to Brandon's website, and select "contact me". In the email request a copy and shortly after he will email it to you. Both times I have asked for one of his unpublished books, he has sent them very promptly and despite his claim that white sand was unpolished, it was very enjoyable to me and I can't wait till the graphic novel!
  14. If you will like I will find the full quote, but it is referenced that Sadeus did kill an opponent in a duel. In fact that is the duel Adolin and Dalinar use for inspiration to challenge Sadeus to a duel. Sadeus fought so well that the king at the time allowed him a boon to which Sadeus challenged another person who could not refuse. Now I do not recall if he killed the first person he battled or the second, but it is stated he did kill and it was accepted. I referenced Page 660, but i can look it up again and quote the passage if that would help.
  15. The terms only offered that the combatants had the option to surrender, and if they did so then the bout would end for them. If the individual didn't surrender, or was not given an opportunity to (attacked so fiercely so as to be unable to call out) then I believe death is an acceptable outcome. I will need to check the book though. Will follow up when I locate it. edit: haven't found the spot i am looking for yet, but on page 660, Adolin states that Sadeas killed an opponent in a duel. So if Sadeas killed someone in a duel, but is still a highprince with no legal problems, something tells me it is part and parcel. Still looking for the scene the specifies the terms of the duel though. edit2: page 671 "The terms- agreed upon with Relis and spoken in front of the high judge just earlier- indicated that this duel would go until surrender, not until a certain number of Plate sections were broken. That meant if Adolin did manage to breat one of his foes, making the man give in, the other could keep fighting. It also meant that Adolin didn't have to stop fighting until he was convinced he was bested. Or until he was incapacitated"....."They're going to try to break you," Navani said "That's why they insisted this be a match until surrender. They'll leave you crippled if they can, Adolin." "No different from the battlefield," he said. "Actually, in this case, they will want to leave me alive. I'll work better as an oject lesson with Blade-dead legs than I would as ashes." Also Dalinar intended to jump in and help, but Elhokar stopped him stating that all four would turn on Dalinar and kill him the moment he stepped into the ring.
  16. I thought for a second your next line would have been "teach him to fish, and he will stab it with a spike ripping away its spirit web for ULTIMATE POWER!"
  17. Why do I feel like a lot of people who came up with these theories also play Dungeons and Dragons? All the abuses in the game that requires errata are for this exact reason. "How can we take ability A, and make such and such occurrence happen, for unlimited power!". Not saying in this case it is a bad thing, but the level of ingenuity always astounds me.
  18. Be a thug, and start a show called "jackass". now yes on the surface this sounds very beneficial but think about it. the point of the show is to do insane things AND get hurt doing it but somehow survive. If you build into the show an ability that deadens you to pain, then the reactions are dead pan. This is also a useless use for thugs, because you are putting yourself into painful situations ON PURPOSE and risking becoming addicted to it. Like the simpson's episode where VH1 looked at homer behind the scenes with his morphine addiction.
  19. for the shadow knows what lies in the hearts of men (and women apparently)
  20. Unless it is a shark. then can we say sharknado anybody?
  21. Why would Nale stop his own subordinate and hold back from apprehending Lift due to the laws of the land he is in, if he already committed bribery, intimidation, or forgery? Why go through all that ILLEGAL trouble, just to stop short of your prize due to LEGALITY? That is a pretty big assumption to make of Nale.
  22. I did say he didn't break any laws that Dalinar could prove. WE know Sadeus sent the assassins. Dalinar and everyone loyal to him knows. But where is the smoking gun pointing to Sadeus? I am just taking purely from a legal perspective, which from what I understand, is how Skybreakers operate. But I will give you that that is my own interpretation/assumption.
  23. What Weiry said, plus the fact that by Alethi law, Sadeus didn't break any laws. At least none that Dalinar could prove unless he went to war over it, which is why Dalinar didn't pursue it.
  24. Thread necroing in view of the recent release of Sixth of Dusk. Just in case I have included spoiler tags:
