  1. I would say Skybreakers fit Candor or Erudite. Candor for the dedication to the truth above all else, or Erudite for intelligence above all else. Emotion is superfluous to both factions. Skybreakers hold law above all else, regardless of individual or what is "right". Dauntless on the other hand is all emotion (anger, passion, etc). Dauntless are just used as the policing force because they are "fearless", so are trained as an army.
  2. Again, I don't feel it is so certain, so cut and dry. As far as we know, there could be a food stuff, or a digestive track that takes in more iron than humans, and is directly absorbed into the body rather than distributed by blood which results in an iron deficient blood content yet still thrive. I feel there are a lot more factors that go into that, that we don't know and prevents us from refusing the possibility out of hand. That simply because we cannot explain it NOW, then it MUST be magic that made it possible. In the end I guess I will just agree to disagree.
  3. Evolution is mutation, whether beneficial or detrimental. The only determining factor is the success of the organism in that environment. Not the strongest, nor the fastest, but the most amendable to change. One could argue a lizard's loss of limbs would be detrimental, yet we have a whole species that resulted from it and thrived, snakes. So again, we do not know. The orange blood may very well be due to anemia, but given the environmental features, that could have been beneficial to them and bred true.
  4. Well people are assuming what causes the blood of parshendi to be orange is a fundamental change in the DNA, like how we are carbon based, they would have to be silicon based or some such. But the fact of the matter is we DON'T know what is causing the orange colored blood in the parshendi at this point. Human blood is blue till it is oxygenated. There is nothing saying that the cause of the listener's orange blood isn't the result of a different diet, or evolutionary environmental feature in their history. Compare some breeds of dogs for instance. Some look so different, you would almost think they were completely different species, yet they all have four legs, and share traits that imply canine, just like the parshendi and humans have humanoid traits. Despite some breeds of dogs looking so completely different, they can still interbreed for the most part. Yes they still have the same blood color, but again I refer you to my earlier point, we don't know WHY it is orange. In fact out of curiosity, I did a search on orange blood, and anemia can cause that in some cases. It is a general google search, for facts are loose and easy, but the point is you don't need completely alien physiology to manage orange blood.
  5. Just the way you wrote that made me think, for me devotion implies giving, dominion implies taking. so in that lense, it would make sense for dominion to work in other lands, in order to take or conquer. while devotion sounds like love to me, which as the old saying goes "home is where the heart is".
  6. Much like the OP, what I am about to say has absolutely no source material to back it up, but what if they find a way to take all the honorblades, and "break" them down, or combine them. All the honorblades are made of honor and they are pretty powerful by themselves. Unite them all which is a pretty huge chunk of honor, have a person hold it, and then use it to draw all the other pieces till the shard is whole again.
  7. Well continuing along this analog, I wonder if the Bondsmiths learned some way of enacting a Rosharian "copper" to the listeners "bronze", to cut the listeners off from these songs and reverting them back to dull form, devoid of investiture.
  8. Well with Fortuity as an example, I think he IS one of the few where discovering his own weakness makes sense. I think most people assume that if you suddenly discover you have precognitive abilities, you would probably go gambling. Stereotypically when someone is having a great run at gambling, cue gorgeous woman to appear and flirt. At that point, his precognitive abilities would fail. Lady would then leave. Abilities kick in again. Even the stupidest of epics I think would eventually put two and two together. Then again I am basing this on just about every movie ever made. I have never gone gambling myself.
  9. I'm confused.....I thought that's what I said? lol
  10. It does make one wonder how Prof and Conflux DISCOVERED that they could gift at all?
  11. The only problem with this line of reasoning, is it is stated on numerous occasions that epics break or plain and simple ignore the laws of physics constantly. So it would stand to reason that Calamity itself, the very cause of epics, would do the same. So I would not count out the possibility that Calamity could just sit in space, locked in one location, and still affect the entire planet despite all laws of reality stating otherwise. Tends to make it rather difficult to logically deduce anything about it
  12. What about Elantians? From what I have seen on these boards, world hopping is difficult because of what happened to devotion and dominion. So if you can't or it is difficult to world hop via Shadesmar, why not go around and just use spaceflight? Elantians can use illusions to look human, and since they do not need to eat/breathe etc (if I recall correctly, been awhile since I read it), they could easily feign death. Finally I could see Raodin, being devoted to his people, being the type to hold to a rule of non-interference with less technologically advanced cultures but find a way around such a rule. In fact quite a few heros/rulers in Brandon's books are that type. They are altruistic, but in many ways ruthless due to the responsibilities they must deal with. I personally am not sold yet one way or the other, but throwing out my thoughts and seeing what everyone thinks.
  13. that actually raises a question for me. If you took a gold cast bullet, stored health into it, and then had someone shoot you in the head with it, would you have enough time as the bullet passed through your skull to draw health and heal?
  14. I am more interested in the points Outis brought up regarding the potential ramifications of tapping a massive reservoir of connection. If we are to keep with the example given regarding a skimmer, then one can only imagine the psychological results for duralumin. Take for instance (and as requested, these are all conclusions I have derived, not canon) the suspicious nature of everyone who interacted with Breeze. Constantly questioning if their actions were their own, or a result of his soothing. Then we have the incredible and oppressive soothing from the Lord Ruler. Such a powerful compounded sooth on an individual regardless if it is stopped, could result in depression, suicidal tendencies, schizophrenia, etc. Now extend that to duralumin. Take for example if this ability was abused (of course we would NEVER think of ways to do that ) for individual A, to woo individual B from his or her husband/wife. The connection is fabricated, and results in individual B acting unlike they would otherwise. Sustained use in this manner could have horrible mental and emotional results nonetheless if this ability is suddenly stopped. To look back at the skimmer example, a broken metal beam would be paltry compared to the potential damage that this ability could manifest.
  15. Also a thought I had, which might have come up earlier, is how much MORE important seekers will be in later trilogies. In the Lord Ruler's age, mistborn and mistings were very rare, but with all the mistings, feruchemists, and twin born we have seen I could totally see "tracker" seekers being common place. Which also leads to another thought, does anyone know if a seeker burning bronze would detect a feruchemist storing or tapping their reserves?
  16. What if Galivar had her killed, and Dalinar found out, or Dalinar found out Galivar and her were getting down. Dalinar already admitted once upon a time he considered killing Galivar because of Navani. Perhaps he asked the Nightwatcher to make him forget his wife, because he knew he could never forgive Galivar and would result in going to war. Just some thoughts that popped into my head.
  17. True, but then it would be impossible to speculate what the Nightwatcher wants, so I think this thread was, or at least how I interpreted as a fun exercise in crazy boons and curses.
  18. To which the terminator says "Lavistaing the Hastaing of the baby"
  19. It is? I do not recall that ever being stated in Alloy of Law. If I missed it, then sweet learned something new, it has been awhile since I've read it, but I thought the tenants of the religion didn't actually go into such detail. Otherwise why don't the worshipers refer to Sazed as well Sazed? Christians call Jesus by his name. Buddists know of Sidhartha Gutarma (I know I totally butchered that name), and so on. But again, I admit I could have missed it, and if that is the case, then I tip my hat to you. Now for a totally other subject that struck me while I was walking in the city. So the Scadrians we know of, only have allomancy/feruchemy in their body, and otherwise are technologically advancing the same as we did. Steam, leading to electric and so on. Meanwhile there is the mysterious Scadrians that know how to power machines with allomancy and or feruchemy. So now I wonder, when those two cultures meet, will one form of technology become dominant and make the other obsolete? Like beta max and vhs? Will they combine and hybridize much like how the usb jack and hdmi lets you connect all your peripherals. If one dominates, which do you all think it will be? Technology as we know it, or the allomantic/feruchemal machines? If they combine, how could it manifest? Hearing aids for the feruchemist who is storing hearing? Feruchemal machines AS hearing aids for the elderly? etc.
  20. So on the lighter side: boon, to become a mistborn, curse, never have the metals to burn lol On the greyer side: boon, to become a mistborn, curse become an inquisitor (ya never said HOW to become a mistborn....) On the truly dark side: boon, to become a mistborun, curse, become an inquisitor, but the spikes used are from spiking all your loved ones (Kratos anyone?)
  21. Hmm, so that makes me wonder if Ivory either misled Jasnah or if Ivory is not as potentially knowledgeable as I might expect a transitional spren (I say transitional in an effort to link in my mind the way Wyndle is) to be. (All pure conjecture, and not taking things literally, just like to toss around ideas )
  22. Also, although I am not 100 percent sure, I do not recall ruin or preservation mentioned as religions in the alloy of law trilogy. There is harmony, and there is the church of the survivor, and trell as well as other un-named religions but it didn't sound at least like Ruin and Preservation were a dominant religion if they still existed at all.
  23. I would have to check the book, but isn't there literally a scene (I THINK it was the partially transformed priest), raised his arm as a sword came down on his bone enhanced arm, and it stopped the blow only lightly slicing the flesh? So I do not think the bone armor is as flimsy against metal as you think.
  24. Well one thought I had is although it is great that the names connect, maybe Brandon reached the same brick wall you did. Maybe by the time he got to Yelig-nar, he couldn't find one that made sense name wise. If, which it does seem to be based on your research, he drew a lot of inspiration from Christian demonology, then perhaps you could try the same theory you used on Sja-anat. Find a demon, regardless of its name, that seems to mesh with Yelig-nar's purpose and perhaps that is the demon in all but name? Honestly the first thing that popped in my head from your description was leviathan. Though I am horrendously uninformed in that venue, I just pictured something huge with that name would be a devouring aspect.
  25. I know with other systems and WoB that surviving decapitation is possible, but it states in the excerpt as far as Jasnah's and Ivory's knowledge, damage to the head can't be healed by stormlight, or more accurately head trauma is too much to heal in enough time to prevent death:
