Random Speculation: The Genetic Metallic Arts are not Natural
Pathfinder replied to WeiryWriter's topic in Mistborn
So question to expand my own knowledge. I always thought that if you genetically had allomancy, you were then snapped to trigger the ability to be active. If I did not genetically have allomancy, then snapping could not occur. From the way you phrased it in your theory, I got the impression that you were saying it was possible for someone with no genetic marker for allomancy to be snapped by the mists and become an allomancer. Did I read that correctly? Is this new info? -

Granted, you remember every gruesome detail of your birth. I wish that Alcatrez Versus the Shattered Lense was in e-reader format for me to read, and the fifth book in the series was written already that I could read. -
Especially considering it is shown that Lalai really does love Sadeus. True their love is more intellectual than physical/emotional, but there is a love of respect they hold for each other. They work well together and balance each other. Lalai is gonna gun for whoever did it with a passion and not stopped till the target of her ire is destroyed.

Connecting through Cyberspace: Duralumin in the Digital Age
Pathfinder replied to Kobold King's topic in Mistborn
That probably would be the best and simplest to resolve this issue. Just treat it like a bendalloy cadmium bubble. I don't think it works that way, and I can list a whole host of reasons why that would be problematic, but for balance and less headaches I think it is the best lol. Then again bendalloy and cadmium causes a whole host of headaches on their own as they currently function, so solution......I need more Tylenol......- 22 replies

Could a Seer take down a shardbearer?
Pathfinder replied to Natanaj's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I am not proficient enough with this forum to do searches, but yes there was posts about each of the radiants we see getting an added "ability" just because. Shallan has her memory and Jasnah has her location as stated. Kaladin is especially good in combat. There is WoB on that, though as I said I have no idea how to locate that on this forum. edit: and this ability does not require the radiant to be using stormlight. it just is. -

Kaladins gonna fall in love with veil(spoilers)
Pathfinder replied to Wit422's topic in Stormlight Archive
What if the conflict is Kal finds out about Veil, and that it is Shallan. He was suspicious of her to begin with, maybe that brings that back up, and Adolin thinking Kal just wants to get with her, ends up causing a problem between all three. Thoughts? For instance: Kal: Adolin, I don't like Shallan, you shouldn't trust her. You two shouldn't be together Adolin: Bah she is amazing. Why do you keep pushing me to stay away from her? Are you trying something? etc -
Connecting through Cyberspace: Duralumin in the Digital Age
Pathfinder replied to Kobold King's topic in Mistborn
That is an excellent point. All that is being changed is the connection, not the knowledge. In fact I could see that resulting in the person pulling a sorta werewolf syndrome of "If you stay near me you will die! you must run from me before i run out of what i've stored!"- 22 replies

Could a Seer take down a shardbearer?
Pathfinder replied to Natanaj's topic in General Brandon Discussion
After pulling up the scene, Vin did not win because she fought defensively. She won because she fought on instinct. She stopped "thinking" before she acted. She focused on reading Zane and how he would react to what she would start to do to figure out what he was going to do. In a way becoming her own atium. Even then she only killed Zane through a double check mate, they both stabbed each other, just hers was the fatal one. True the helm of a shardbearer becomes transparent, but it is still has a slight distortion, which is why the eye holes are necessary. I think the helm would hamper the shardbearer from being able to repeat what Vin did. to determine which would run out, we would need the OP to define what he or she means by "would have plenty of atium" edit: to clarify, in the scene zane still sees the atium shadows, but she learns to instinctively when she starts to take an action, see a twitch of his muscle, causes her to realize how he is possibly reacting to what action he sees her atium shadow take, and then she changes that action based on that, ultimately leading to him stabbing her in the shoulder, and him in the throat. -

If shardplate is continuously struck at the same location, it will shatter. Playing purely defensive will not win the day either. -

Could a Seer take down a shardbearer?
Pathfinder replied to Natanaj's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Has there been defined strength and speed comparisons made between the two to confirm this? I never referred to mistakes. If I know you are going for an overhand swing, then I know you will be leaving your midsection completely open. I will know what your reaction will be once you realize I am going for your midsection, and compensate. It has been shown normal people have fought shardbearers and won, so your speed is not so greatly enhanced that I cannot possibly account for it. By your definition, when I burn atium, ALL you make is mistakes, because I will be able to do the exact move that goes around yours, or attack the exact place you are unable to defend against. taking the example given. the moment i think to throw my sword at your face, I will see the shadow of you raising your arm to block it, so I will know your vision for that time will be compromised, and can close the distance, as well as know exactly how the sword will deflect off of you, to catch it in midair after it bounces off, and strike the one place you will not be able to reach in time, because I know already know you wont be able to reach it in time, because I already saw the shadow move to everywhere I thought to hit. -
First, we only see the prospective the higher ups that are disdainful of the religion to begin with, and think Dalinar is mad and this is only sealing the deal. The only common people we see around are people that serve Sadeus, and people that serve Dalinar. Any public outcry would more than likely be centered back in Alethkar, which it seems communication is relatively minimal. There certainly were not any scenes of people reacting to the announcement back at home, and it seemed like the declaration was much more centralized in the warcamps since it was part of the bid to unite the princes. So just because we do not see a huge upheaval when it is first announced, does not mean there will not be one at all. That is conjecture, especially considering the numerous organizations that are working against the formation. I see it as a math game. You have an established religion that has painted the radiants as corrupt, and abandoned everyone. You have an established religion whose interest is maintaining this view. You have numerous groups whose interest is in controlling the radiants, or discrediting them in a bid to gain power. you have another group led by a herald himself, running around and killing radiants. and finally you have a group of radiants that know each other and assuming want to work with each other that numbers four, Dalinar, Renarian, Shallan, and Kaladin. Lift I do not count because they have not met, nor has she agreed to join them. Also those four do not know or truly understand their powers. So I think there is a whole long that stands between the radiants and people trusting what they have to say and want to do. Well look at it from an order of occurence. First you think magical radiants are a myth. then you find out they are real. where did you read about these radiants that you thought were a myth? the same place that says they are bad and abandoned us. so if one part of that text turns out real, why wouldn't you believe the other part? So as I typed all that, I saw your latest post 20, and I want to say given over this thread we have pretty much disagreed on everything lol, I want to make sure you know I did not downvote you, and as I said before I respect what you think and believe. I am not saying you were accusing me, but given our discussion on the thread, it would be the most logical deduction. I like our discourse

Could a Seer take down a shardbearer?
Pathfinder replied to Natanaj's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I would like to also point out that a group of atium mistings, trained, but otherwise just ordinary joes, took on an army of koloss that outnumbered them. True many died, but I think the fact alone that they held their own against creatures stronger, more durable, faster, and more numerous speaks volumes. In my opinion I am also not sure why so many people see atium as purely defensive. If you can see every action your opponent will make in reaction to your action, that will not only allow me to AVOID their attacks, but plan and succeed on MINE. -
Connecting through Cyberspace: Duralumin in the Digital Age
Pathfinder replied to Kobold King's topic in Mistborn
So random example, because I am curious to see how effective people could see this ability playing out by stacking it against fduralium. Let us say there is person A, who is a high profile individual, with a lot of resources, and knows a hit has been put out on them. They hole up in their building, surrounded by guard at every entrance. person A knows there will be an assassin who will try to kill him. Could person B tapping fduralium make everyone trust him or her enough, being a complete stranger, when they are all, including person A, expecting an unknown person to come and kill person A? I am rereading mistborn for the hell of it, and there was the part where Vin knew her emotions were being pulled on, because the logical part of her mind was clearly thinking she should be scared/worried about leaving, but she feels perfectly serene, so was able to break out of it. So I am wondering if person A clearly knows people are out to kill him, no matter how much he could potentially trust someone, could the fact that his life is in danger and he doesn't know this person, would result in his mind going "um something is wrong here"- 22 replies

"Real Life" Allomancy or How the second Trilogy might work
Pathfinder replied to Pathfinder's topic in Mistborn
Well I was going to say if they learned to work together and time things, they could potentially be even better, but for some reason this caused another thought to pop in my head. If they share the same body, but seperate spirit web, Would lets say a steel left head zinc right head, would the right head see blue lines when the left head burned steel? upvote for the warcraft reference alone lolol -
I know this is off topic, but I agree with everything Maxal said about The Sword of Truth series, and one more complaint I need to get off my chest. I stopped reading after I think the fifth book, even though it had long gotten painful at around the second, but I noticed every single problem Richard solves in one book, causes or results in the problem in the next book. "Yay I saved the day! but wait, by doing such and such to save the day, I actually released this super evil thing that I have to stop! Yay I saved the day! But wait, by killing that super evil thing, I have allowed the thing it kept in check to go wild and out of control, so I must stop it! Yay I saved the day! But wait....."

I think a good analogue, since Hitler was already mentioned so Godwin's law has already taken place lol, is the nazi brass themselves during the Nuremberg trials. They gave orders that resulted in the deaths of thousands, yet claimed they could not be held accountable because they were just following orders, or they were led to believe what they were doing was right. The Nazis are demonized as evil, but what it comes down to it, is it was people, united under a concept that lead them to believe they were superior and those killed were not human. Sadeus casually sacrificing over 6,000 people, without a second thought, pre-meditated (he did not just see an opportunity and capitalize on it, he specifically set it up), I think easily places him within those leagues. So if you are looking for a real world analogue, equating him with those individuals I believe is apt. Not currently day politicians. Are their actions reprehensible? Totally, but their actions may eventually lead to death, and they do not have to face right in front of them, the product of their actions. We spoke earlier at one point as to whether or not Adolin is a psychopath/sociopath. Based on the definition and what we saw, I think that definition belongs to Sadeus any day of the week. Now having said that, there was something you said Maxal that triggered a thought in my head. You stated he would be so broken up, because he was big on the honorable duel and etc. I agree, if this was the first book, but the way you described it reminded me of the duels Adolin had in the second book. True he held to the rules, but the first few duels he had when his father gave him leave, left people shocked by the way he fought them. I see that as an early sign of Adolin beginning to see honor and action in his own light, and I think as result, it might not bother him as much as we think. It still will, but I am beginning to think this change in Adolin came much earlier than I originally thought.
